I think it can safely be filed under 'damp squib'. Forgotten about by tea time.

I think the club was right to say something, in that I saw some pretty horrific stuff being said to Lerma.

What was wrong was to pick out fans and screenshot their pictures - particularly as whilst generally immature and unpleasant, I don't think any of the tweets they chose to share with thousands of followers were great examples of the abuse, and certainly not worthy of police time. That being said - did see some pretty rotten stuff on twitter (which i'm guessing they couldn't share) which did hit that threshold and was racist.

The club was right to do something, but execution seems a little off.

16 years old and complaining to Daddy that a Twitter account blocked him.

    This generation really is ****ed.

Surely it’s not just unnecessary but actually unhelpful to conflate hurling various expletives at Lerma (or justifying those doing so) with racist abuse the way the club just did.

Is the club going to ban every fan who calls the referee a w*nker too now?

    This 100%.

There are a few younger female fans on Watford Twitter and the younger male fans (probably some older ones too) nearly obsess over them. Really strange behaviour.

There were a few Watford Twitter accounts I unfollowed as they constantly tweeted these girl's accounts and my timeline was full of it.

Whilst I agree with the clubs take that racist and abusive comments should be escalated to the authorities and dealt with accordingly, having seen the screen shots of the comments that they deem racist seem to have been taken totally out of context and weren’t racist comments in themselves, and therefore its wrong that the club has name and shamed those particular accounts.

Can someone let me know if it's cool to get blocked by the club now? Just want to stay on trend.

It's a good job they didn't have an Internet connection back in the dial up BWL days when there was proper trolling.

I don't really understand why people get upset at things written on the Internet. It's just pixels on a screen. It means nothing and has no consequences.

I only like about 4 people, tolerate a few more, indifferent to many and despise quite a lot. I'm sure I used to like about 10 people, I blame my peaking at twitter for this decrease.

Oh, boo hoo, a few people called a footballer a c*nt online because he behaved in an extremely c*nty way. Call the police!

So bored of this weak, pathetic society we now live in. Is racism OK? No. Is severe, personal abuse OK? No. Is legimtimately threatening behaviour OK? No. Is calling someone who is clearly being a c*nt a c*nt OK? Yes, yes it is.

I can't wait until we're allowed back into the grounds, only to be banned for life and sentenced to 5 years inside for calling the lino a tw*t.

Are we condemning Wilshere for his utterly disgusting, vile, life altering abuse at the referee? He called him a "f*cking w*nker" and screamed "f*ck off" straight in his face - not online - so I presume this has also been passed on to the police?

No need to make death threats to Lerma - he's unlikely to survive the terrible injuries he suffered from the assaults on him by Chalo and JP.

I would be defined as a millennial based on my age, but I have literally no comprehension of Twitter and why anyone uses it. I literally only use it to get prompt Watford team news 1 hour before kick off and that is it.

Why people concern themselves with its population of moronic children I will never understand.

Club were bang out or order to crop those tweets in a way that made it look like one tweeter was excusing racism (when actually he was replying to a completely different tweet)

I'd be fuming if that was me, they're dishonestly portraying him as a racist to thousands of people

Tbf I think calling Lerma a **** is legitimate. Should go without saying that racism is never acceptable.

I remember a heated home game against Arsenal in 99/2000 under moody skies. At one point Viera held a cyclist's water bottle with a long plastic 'straw' between his legs, stood in front of the rookery and acted like he was pi$$ing on the Watford fans. The rookery end was up in arms hurling abuse at him and calling him everything under the sun but none of it was racial. Yes Viera was acting like a c0nt that day, no it had nothing to do with his skin colour. I felt a real sense of pride that day that I supported a club that could vilify an antagonistic opponent without being racist. Those were the days!!

Twitter - for the opinions of angry children and the childish.
Also: The people employed by a second-tier football club to handle their Twitter account get it wrong once again. Could it be they are not intellectual giants?

I don’t understand Twitter and I stand against racism , I also think it’s wrong to sit behind your keyboard and threaten people.

Lerma is still a massive bell end though and deliberately cheated by rolling around to influence the reference.

Mate, don't believe everything you read on the internet.

That particular site lists Deeney as a striker for a start.

I can't remember exactly, I was somewhere different as I gave my seat to my brother.
Nearer the pitch than the back and slightly to the left of the goal.
