Have to say I rarely agree with your Pozzo bashing but those two you mention are completely baffling

I think he was once good but at 35 not now particularly after injury and having not played for a time.

Maybe he's not wanted at Watford? That would explain why we're not 'showing him he's wanted at Watford'. Sometimes the simplest answer is the right answer.

No point fixating about his ability if the assessment of those at the club is that for whatever reason - ability, commitment to training, mentality, attitude - they don't see a future for him here as it stands.

Maybe, but the hierarchy have proved completely incompetent over the past couple of year on their judgment. Maybe they think Quina's crap and Sanchez is great. Maybe they thought Toney is crap and Gray is great. Maybe they thought the defence needed no strengthening last season or the strike force didn't need strengthening this season. Thought zero left backs for a large part of this season was ok, thought having only four viable midfielders was ok, thought selling Doucoure for £20m this season whilst turning their noses up at £35m last season was a good deal. Thinking rehiring QSF would be the way to go. Sacking Pearson with two vital games to go was a cunning ploy......the list is endless.

So when you say maybe he's not wanted, you have to say, it could be another idiot assessment to add to the ever growing list.

Of course. Though it's difficult to argue there hasn't been an attitude problem around the squad in recent seasons and that sometimes you have to move on the bad eggs, even if on the pitch they could add value. I think a big part of our problem in the last couple of years of our PL stay was we tried to hold on to players who obviously didn't give a toss nor want to be here, because we thought having a strong XI on paper was better than having a cohesive and resilient XI. Some unfortunately Pozzo rewarded with obscene contracts that make them immovable and that doubles our pain.

There's something clearly wrong in the background at our club too...but that doesn't mean everything can be blamed on it.

It’s easier to get rid of players that are wanted ..

These are all things you work on with a young player. It's deeply worrying given the words of Duxbury earlier in the season, that they've chosen to not bother in this instance and instead ship out a player who, to most fans, looks like he'd have a role to play between now and the end of the season. When you see us linked with Sanchez with his recent profile, its fair to ask questions rather than just accept it IMO.

An issue seems to be, if the above is true, that the club seems to have a revolving door for 'bad eggs' and there always seems to be a heavily rumoured contingent of them. And because thats the case, it's levelled at any player who leaves - Capoue, Pereyra, Deulofeu, Doucoure, Suarez, Estupinan....theres more. Now Quina. Yet those like Deeney and Gray who have publicly shown themselves to be 'bad eggs' are still gainfully employed by the club....

Maybe there isn't a huge culture problem behind the scenes - maybe it's just that those who run the club have lost control to such an extent that they make more bad decisions than good ones?

I was alluding to them with the contracts point to be fair.

I dunno why Deulofeu is in that group but otherwise there's different reasons for each. Capoue was a damn good servant but had a lazy streak, Pereyra was a constant 6 out 10 whispering to Argentine media about wanting to leave, Doucoure made no secret of his wish to leave 2 years before he eventually did and Suarez had an agent lining up moves for him 6 months before he went. I wouldn't include Estupinan either but admittedly have seen other bundle him in. That said, I'm not sure these issues are going to unique to Pozzo. As long as Watford are Watford, and seen as the smallish club we are, players will come here if we're in the PL but will always have

I just don't think it's a surprise Capoue and Quina were moved on and the club were seemingly open to Chalobah going too, even in the midst of a busy Championship season. All have the ability to positively affect games at this level. All allowed to leave (or lined up to). It's not even about the money - Capoue went for peanuts and Quina on loan.

Absolutely not a surprise, I agree. But why isn't it a surprise? I think the answer to that question is far more damning on the clubs working practices than it is on the players attitudes personally.

It's the finances, it's the only explanation. Failing to get rid of Deeney and Gray has killed us. We wanted to shift Capoue in the summer but weren't going to be completely mugged off by Valencia's offer of a straight loan where he might come back to us a year later when we're stuck in the Championship with even less money. But as soon as Villarreal got that injury and offered some actual dosh for Capoue, we couldn't shove him and his £50k/week (guess) wages out of the door soon enough.

It's why we couldn't find a left back anywhere in the world when Ivic was crying out for one. We had over 50 days to get one in from anywhere - a free, a loan, an Udinese back up - before the window shut.

Quina is a depreciating asset, only 18 months left on his contract. Wasn't really playing for us so they'd rather get a loan fee from Granada and hope that he plays a bit more to encourage someone to buy him in the summer. Obviously it will still be cut price as he'll only have a year left on his contract.

Any rational person would've taken some further short term financial losses to keep the squad stronger with the prize of a return to the Premier League as a very realistic possibility. Unless of course, the finances are so bad that we are already in dire straits and we need to take action now, even if it potentially weakens our promotion push.

This is why we're now in a position where we are forced to walk past the bargain bin in the shop to go rummaging around the skip outside for players. We are broke.

It's both. It's always going to be hard to reconcile our stature as a smallish club with the fact that while we're a PL club players who wouldn't ordinarily give us the time of day can be attracted by cold hard cash to come here. Pozzo or no Pozzo that would be the case.

I just find it curious that lots of vocal people on here agree the squad has/had a rancid attitude and body language for some time now yet every individual that's moved on there's an instinct for the same people to say "Oh but not him" and moan about them leaving.

No clue. Utterly bizarre decision. Nearly as bizarre as Titus Bramble being a footballer.

I watched him play against us in one of his few appearances for West Ham last year and I remember thinking at the time that it was one of the worst performances by a Prem player that i’d ever seen.

He's a body to sit on the bench and only use in an emergency. If he starts a game I'll be extremely surprised.

Now watch Hughes and Cleverley get injured on the final day and Sanchez has to play in the playoffs.

This game is my only memory of him. Indeed, my only memory of the game itself is of how he looked entirely out of his depth. Comically so. As though he wasn’t even a footballer.

    Sign him up.

If we used him, I suspect it would be for less than 90 minutes total. He'd be a "backup parachute" kind of player. I can't imagine him ever starting. The only point would be so that you don't have to run out a youngster in a late game sphincter-pucker situation.

To be fair we are apparently going to get him to prove himself on the training pitch before actually making any final commitment to signing him.

Seeing as we have 2 fit/available natural CMs this evening, I wouldn't be surprised if this one is pushed through very quickly.

Got to feel for Pozzo. To be left with just 2 CMs after reducing us to 4 in the transfer window could not possibly have been foreseen in a league when you have to play every 4 days.
