I don’t think we were that bad, didn’t have the luck today , lost by a single goal caused by lack of concentration , apart from that I think we were more likely to score then them. From our point of view we need to put it behind us and get back to winning ways , 4 wins out 5 for the rest of the season is probably the minimum we need for an auto promotion place
Sorry to hear this IBB. My dad went through something similar a few years ago, it was a very very long journey but he was able to describe Bournemouth in his own usual way earlier. Hopefully you'll get positive news.
I've only just logged on and I was about to ask the same question? The ref awarded a free kick to us and then the lino drew the ref's attention to the Chalobah retaliation to being fouled which probably rightly earned him a yellow , however surely the original award of a free kick to us should have stood and Muff should not have been awarded the free kick that they ultimately scored from On top of all that Muff fully lived up to their reputation of being CHEATING BARSTEWARDS
Not sure why we just allowed them to take our free kick? Even a token protest would have made the referee reconsider the sequence of events. I am pretty sure the discussion with the lino was just about what happened after the referee had blown for our free kick......
Costly defeat in many ways. Major dent in our automatic promotion hopes. Losing both Pedro and Chalobah due to suspensions. Losing to promtion rivals (again). This all bodes very badly for us, even if it is only playoffs as our record against potential playoff teams is appalling. Assuming Norwich won't be in the playoffs, all the other contenders have resulted in defeats and draws. Bournemouth 1-1 & 0-1, Cardiff 0-1 (h ), Brentford 1-1 (h ), Reading 0-1 ( a), Swansea (a ) 1-2. So today, it looks bleak. Watford were so naive. They let Bournemouth bully them and they fell into the trap of reacting to dark arts, which Bournemouth are masters of. We know all about that, but probably the new coaching team did not. Once again, we lose after going a goal down. We looked lost chasing the match and I knew the game was probably over as soon as they took the lead. We lost our heads and the match. Cathcart probably had his worst ever match for Watford. Shocking. Beaten in the air constantly, misplaced passes, mistimed tackles. Caught flat footed for the goal. Bachmann really poor for the goal also, although he did make a couple of very good saves earlier on. We didn't create enough going forward. Pedro should have done better with a header in the first half. Cleverley missed a great chance in the second, Perica missed his kick (again) in front of goal late on, but that's about it for Watford chances. Nowhere near enough. We played the occasion, got caught up in it all, and probably deservedly lost because of the naivety shown.
At their age I would have done. Once at County Cup at Eastbourne ( must be the sea air?!) a noxious cheat from Surrey was weaving her sorcery. I was about 23 at the time and lost my mind at the blatant poor line calling, shall we say. I spent the next set trying to hit this player, fortunately I missed and they all went in and we won but it can just overtake you and you lose your mind in the tension of the contest. I detest it in any sport.
I think we could still be playing now and wouldn’t have scored yet. Poor performance not helped by getting sucked into the Bournemouth trap.
If we were still playing, both sides might be down to just goal keepers. I used to have an old football game that actually did that. you could have 10 sent off for each side - pretty hillarious.
I get what you’re saying, and appreciate you’re not defending the yellow, but I don’t buy the ‘soft’ yellow argument either. It was barely a foul. No intent and unless the ref thought he recklessly fell into Lerma it can’t be a foul. But even if he we was persuaded Pedro fell recklessly, there’s surely no range from soft to harsh where that should have been a yellow. I suspect the ref saw it out of the corner of his eye as a late tackle and the lino confirmed in his ear it was roughly from behind. That was it.
Overall I’m happier without var, but when you play AFC Sh1thouse in the championship with weak as piss refs is when you actually need it.
Just trying to consider how I would feel if we had the same tactics/antics as Bournemouth in terms of the dark arts. I know I would be disgusted, but would welcome the points. I would be very in happy with it as a consistent trait in a player or team. It is up to the authorities to stamp it out and use video evidence and enquires to expose this utterly disgusting feigning of injury. Would be interested to see what their fans’ attitude is to Lerna today. Any support for it would be disgraceful, but not overly surprising.
From Muff forum: Old Cherry Reserves 22 minutes ago #404 We are Boscombe! We are Evil. Oim avin a pasty. And some extra Cornish Beer tonight. To celebrate..no more ' Nice Bournemouth..good dog ..good pussy ' ! Oive just come off the Hornets Nest. Its buzzing..its bloody hilarious. Woodgates a 'rapist'. others at DC have been in jail...Wilshere is ' **** of the Year'. They want Lerma to die of something! All in All...good Fayre ! Half of the Lurkers on here are bound to be them. Love them to be our PO Final. Revenge is a dish best served cold.
We blew 3 or 4 really good chances to play in Sarr & JP in the first 10 minutes when Muff were ripe for the taking. Once they’d weathered that they gained some belief, after which it was very even. We continued to marginally over or under hit the final pass for the rest of the game. For them, they only looked like scoring when Danjuma ran at us in the final third. It’s possible Bachmann would’ve saved the shot if it hadn’t been a miss-hit, but there you go. Had he hit it the way he shaped up for it, it would’ve gone straight at where Bachmann moved to, not in at the near post. I got the feeling Goodman (I think) as the second commentator was peed off with Muff’s antics. He definitely extensively lambasted Lerma for his attempt to get Nate sent off, and commented that some of the FKs they got in the last few minutes were ‘soft’ at best....ie, weren’t free kicks. The ref had been totally brain-fried by the incessant chirp from the Muff players and had no balls to counter it. Everyone could clearly see Wilshere yelling ‘fark off’ at him from only a few yards away; and that’s after he hadn’t been booked for an almost identical pull-back that saw Hughes booked earlier. Two yellow card offences within 10 seconds, but not one shown.
Actually relieved Sarr got booked. If there is any investigation into that brawl at the end, at least he can't get a retrospective red now. He was really wound up by Lerma. He needs to learn to control his temper.
I wrote the last line of that. Half of the Lurkers on here are bound to be them. Love them to be our PO Final. Revenge is a dish best served cold.
I think Clevs did shout to him about it was just blanked by the ref, so it seems he decided to reverse the decision as he considered Nate’s offence was worse than Lerma’s. Maybe he thought he was reffing rugby...
It was also picked up in the shoutbox by a couple of people, we had a break on and you could clearly hear the Bournemouth bench repeatedly shout ‘Foul, Foul, Foul’. Obviously it’s a common tactic and many a player gets a yellow card for it, but I’ve always considered it one of those unwritten/unsaid things, players know to do it when it’s appropriate, but I don’t believe I’ve ever heard or seen other players and managers openly tell a player or players to do it?
Looked to me the ref reacted to JP having a little kick out when he was on the floor. Certainly the replay seemed to show that and he didn't immediately whistle when they went to ground. JP was a little stupid either way.
Not the end of the world, let’s see how we react and a forced freshen up of the line up against so called weaker opposition. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think he was frustrated by his performance. Which was awful. Kelly isn't all that and he was absolutely pocketed. It was the first time this season that Sarr and Kiko came up against a slightly competent pairing and they failed dismally.
