Spot on. The club have enabled the situation and you can’t blame Troy for that, however he could have a bit more humility. As you say, he has a misplaced confidence in his ability but I fail to see how. His record is absolutely damning and it must occur to him as every week passes without him scoring an open play goal, that ultimately there is no other reason for that other than his ability, or lack of. After yesterday’s result surely he can’t be under any illusions that he just isn’t good enough, nobody can say this team isn’t creating chances because we scored 6 goals yesterday. I think he said on talk sport after Ivic went he didn’t understand being dropped as he’s scored 3 in 3, but they were penalties. He also made a comment about how he ‘must be doing something right’ as mangers keep picking him. The most telling part of his self delusion was at the end of last season when he called the reporter a cheeky ******* when he asked him if he was going to retire. What he doesn’t get is that comment had nothing to do with his age, it was to do with what the rest of us see on the pitch now, a player who is at the end of his useful career. At probably 99/100 clubs the situation would’ve never have developed though. A player in Troy’s position would’ve been moved on as soon as his abilities started to decline, not given a longer contract, that was just madness. But he should have the humility to understand he got that contract through sheer stupidity, it’s not in any way a vindication of his footballing ability.

It was commentator David Stowell who made the comment on the Sky Sports EFL podcast. Total nonsense: I suspect that he fabricated this claim. Most Watford supporters on social media were pleased with the change in formation and that Deeney and Gray had been left out. Pundit Andy Hinchcliffe said that he would be covering Watford's next match against Derby on Friday so it would be interesting to see the next team selection and if Muñoz uses the same 4-3-3 formation. Strange - I thought Watford's next match was away at Preston on Tuesday. Hinchcliffe probably meant Watford's next home game, but that is not what he said.

So Troy gets 75,000 a week to cheer the team, while we all pay 10 for the privilege

Well he isn’t going to stop being paid just because he isn’t selected .

Much like anyone else who isn’t picked.

How many subscribe to Hive Live?

Assuming there are 15,000 of us, I for one would happily throw in an extra fiver to see him sitting in the stands.

Yes lets petition for a "we pay Deeney's wages provided he doesn't play" clause.
Almost sounds like an Italian Mafia protection racket

According to The Wobby TD is going to be out for several games as he apparently has some niggling injuries that need to clear up.

Fantastic news. This is the best solution all round. Deeney saves face and we continue to be ace.

He is more then welcome to come back into the team when the title is mathematically certain. But not a second before.

Looks like the penny has dropped about Gray too in our ******ous manager's mind, given that he didnt throw him on last night. It's just a shame perica put in such a dreadful showing last night.

Now all roads lead only to one place: O Captain! my Captain! ISAAC SUCCESS.

I'll keep the voodoo doll going for a few more weeks, just needs to be long enough that we win enough to ensure he can't be picked to start.

Not too long that fans here to start think he is a world beater again as happens with all injured players, until they are back and prove they are sh1t again. e.g. Isaac Success.

Agreed. They haven’t even tried to announce a timeline for his return to action. Just that he’ll be totally out of action and not even at the games while he’s in the boot, which will be 2 weeks minimum.

It’s a big shame for Troy, particularly if this really is the last year of his time at Watford. Hopefully he’ll come back and score some big goals off the bench (FWIW this happened on my FM with Deeney coming off the bench to score an 80th minute penalty in his last appearance - the FA Cup Final).

But a couple of months out will provide space and time for this new front 3 to gel and for JP to become the main man up front - which will be good for us in the medium and long-term.

Hahaha, the desperate spin in that article:

"A Sky Blues' defender fell onto the skipper's lower leg at St. Andrews a week last Saturday, yet the Hornets' Number 9 dismissed it as a minor knock at the time and battled through the game - even going closest to scoring the game's only goal with a late looping header which came back off the far post."

Please still love him! We're about to give him a new 4 year deal!

"He added: "It's not unusual for me to get on with it sometimes; to have an injection and play with a little injury or two. Sometimes it's to my detriment longer term and sometimes it can look like I'm not giving it my all."

Ha, yeah of course that's been the reason - nothing to do with him being generally unfit and blase whatsoever!

"Deeney will be in an immobilising plastic boot for an initial two weeks" - as opposed to being immobilised in a football boot for the last three seasons.

It’s a relief to know he can’t be in the team for a bit. Ideally we’d be able to rely on our head coach to pick the best team and play to everyone’s strengths, but clearly when Deeney is fit: he plays. And when Deeney plays, we go long and chase the occasional flick on. The wingers were playing too high in Munoz’s 4-4-2, presumably as they wanted to pick up second balls off Troy, leaving the central two horribly exposed and generally just preventing any kind of cohesive build up.

I hope he takes his time to recover properly and can come back to smash in a winning penalty in the play-off final.

For all the stick he gets, most of it deserved, I think this would be sad way for his time here to come to an end. He shouldn’t be starting but would be a very useful bench option

If he came with the right attitude, that the team must evolve and he has an invaluable role supporting and helping that to happen, I would be delighted if he saw his career out here. I’ve said all along there are games he should contribute in, and there are games he should sit out.

I respect that he feels he still has a couple of years still in himself and wants to play and be first choice. However in that case it can’t be here.

This year should always have been about rebuilding, thank god that appears finally to have landed with the club leadership at the 11th hour.

Learned yesterday that he has a book coming out in September called ‘A Hornet In Your Face’ which doesn’t suggest he’s leaving the club in the near future

I guessed that at some point he would have written an autobiography but I would have thought that it would have waited until he'd left.
