Fully agree, though would have Perica 2nd choice and Success 3rd. Perica has the acceleration, movement and a dangerous header to cause issues.

Deeney only didn’t play because he hadn’t trained.

He’ll be back and Gray was just alternating with Pedro again - I expect them to do so in one of these games coming up.

Anyone hoping we will never see them again will be disappointed.

I picked success cos he CAN play that role. Not cos he's likely to do it well. He's the least bad 2nd option but Perica could also come good. Zinky is clearly a fantastic player. We have an embarrassment of riches in the final 3rd with Sema JP Sarr and Zinky at our disposal.

If he doesn't play 433 then I want him sacked at half time.

Interesting to hear about the 'senior pros' galvanizing the squad. There was me thinking it was largely the non senior pros (Sarr JP Sema Hughes) + Cleverley who led us to victory against Bristol.

It'll most likely be 433 but with Deeney or Gray as #9 and JP off the bench.

He has a big job on in Barton apparently so he's unlikely to be available.
    Bill Shankly is fit however.

Like a lot of what has been written already. It all comes down to the team selection for me.

Deeney to stay dropped is what the doctor orders. Draw or win from then on both ok with me. Just please don't be catastrophically ****. It will just be reassuring to learn that Xisco and friends have got some football nouse and that there is a faint heartbeat left at the club.

Don't worry about that KGT, the one thing you can be confident of with this forum is that if we win all our remaining games 6-0 there will be new and innovative ways put in place to insult each other. Unlike the team the members of this forum always find ways to adapt to new situations.

Personally just popped on here to check the archive and dig out anyone who labelled Sierralta a turd when he joined for an unnecessary argument. If that fails I'll make up an outrageous claim regarding the clubs financial situation based upon no facts whatsoever, that never fails to deliver!

The main point being we cannot play a 3-man midfield if Deeney starts. He can only really play in a 4-4-2 which means Hughes could not play the role he did on Saturday, which as you rightly say, was one of the main reasons for our good performance. Along with the fact he had mobile forward options to pick a pass to, which is something else playing Deeney negates.
I suppose one big factor will be the state of the pitch...if it's a mud heap then it will be difficult to play the way we did on our carpet anyway.

True. DeeKnee has made our play so sluggish and predictable. Gray isn't even a footballer imo.
We could hit space with passes or go to feet knowing we had pace down the sides and central striker who can control the football and bring others into play.

Our only hope is that Deeney is big enough to realise the team is better without him. If he needs to save face he can claim his knee is playing up. But please god don't let him start.

More chance of me becoming pontiff than Deeney becoming humble.

Deeney was supporting the team loud from the touchline last game and celebrated every goal. He may not be humble but he does want the best for the team and club.

If JP don't play and Perica not under consideration...

Gray can at least run, so send him running down channels creating space for others to score or catching opposition on the break and a slight chance of assisting a goal. We will just have to put up with the occasional miscontrolling of the football during the game. A marginally better option than a player slowing down play who can't run and keep up like he once did, with a tendency to wave his arms and moan at players.

I agree, and it's clear he wants to play unlike a Baileys guzzling player whom I won't name. However, now is the time for him to acknowledge that him starting is not necessarily in the best interests of the team.

I think if he is just clever enough he will feign injury for the rest of the season and can then have that reflected glory from the side line and then on to a move or a tv career.

Like the majority on here , i think JP is a great talent but a long way from spearheading a promotion team, so in my opinion there will be a need for some input from Deeney .

Percia , grey and success are insufficient in one way or another and cannot be relied on to step up.

It was only 3 months ago that the majority of members were building a team around Domingos Quina and look what happened to him.

Hughes is better than either of the other two, whether he's lying deep or attacking.

This is true, although Troy is serviceable in this role so long as he remains high. What gets him and us into trouble is that (admirably) he follows the ball deep into our half when the other team has possession, then he can't turn round and get up the pitch in time to support the attack. When he plays, Xisco will need to sort this out somehow.

I wasn’t in the Quina crushing the Championship camp, but even now I’d rather build the team around Quina than Deeney.

What have you seen from Deeney in the last two seasons that suggests he's capable of spearheading a promotion team?

    Here's a stat for you:

We haven't won at Deepdale since 1979. NINETEEN SEVENTY NINE.

We have had FOURTEEN attempts since that fateful day, losing 9 and scraping 4 draws.

Hard to imagine it is possible to have such an abysmal record against a team that is usually either one of our peers or slightly inferior.

Good chance to end this run tomorrow (but we probably won't).

I see Pedro as our version of Firmino at Liverpool. I don’t think he’s a 20 goal a season striker, not yet anyway, his finishing can be a little weak, but he’s still better in this department than our other choices as a 9.

More importantly he brings the team together, very clever and talented young man. Has got a bit of fire in his belly as well and looks to enjoy his game with a great attitude.

Love watching him play and hope he starts Tuesday as I missed Saturdays epic win.

"Some input", if we need to protect a lead late on in a game or to add some physical presence etc.

Might be useful defending set plays.

He does that better than anything in attack .

I'm a little superstitious about these sorts of things, since there's absolutely no rhyme or reason to a record like that, it stands to reason that we are definitely going to win tomorrow, right?

You’ve just won 6-0 to turn around a worryingly lack of form with a dominant display. If the same team does not at least start the game I’ll be lost for words.
