Basically saying he didn't think Munoz could coach him.!?

That's a glowing endorsement.....however, it's amazing how quickly he forgets that not too long ago he also was a compete rookie at the job.

And people asking him to be sacked not so long ago.

Lucky to be manager at a top club really mainly due to his playing career.

I suspect the coaches like Mike Phelan are the real masterminds tactically.

Anyway probably know Munoz won't be here 2 minutes and maybe Garner expressed that too?

Wanted to go to a more settled club.

Alternatively is was due to the style of play each of our managers were supposed to have?

Garner suited the slow defensive style but does not suit the attaching style of our new manger. (Yes I know we are waiting to see it!)

I don’t think this has much to do with Munoz’s experience tbh. It’s more to do with the fact that when Munoz came in he started using a tactical approach that didn’t have much of a role for Garner and he clearly didn’t fancy Garner either. You guys are imputing your views on Munoz to Solskjaer.

With Blackburn, I do wonder if the locality of their loans has a lot to do with it. It was well publicised at the time that Liverpool were swayed into sending Elliott there because of the clubs being relatively close.

I’ve always found it strange that we don’t target more Arsenal players given it’s literally the minimal amount of upheaval for them. I think it’s in matters like this, that the hire/fire unstable nature of our setup really goes against us. Have to say, it’s increasingly not hard to see why clubs would be reluctant to send their players to us or the players themselves be against it.

Solskjaer has been a manager for 13 years. I was surprised it was that long too....

Munoz clearly wasn't planning to use him.

I didn't think much of Garner but there was an article in The Times yesterday about players with the ability to scan the pitch instantly and know where everybody was as the ball reached them. Famous players like Lampard and de Bruyne, but Garner was singled out as the one for the next generation.

Don't think I saw any special awareness in him, but maybe he's better at looking around than I am.

He definitely knew where the centre backs were when they were five yards behind them. Picked them out time and again every game.

He is a good player and definitely good enough at this level, if not better. We completely mismanaged him and was wasted having to link up with Deeney and Gray who are both useless.

Sounds like we missed a trick by not playing Sierralta and WTE up front.

Come on Garner didn't care about the club being settled he wanted to leave because he was not getting a game and was down the pecking order rightly so in my opinion.

Will be released from United and playing for someone like Mansfield or MK Dons within the next couple of years.

Garner I think will end up following a similar career path to Cleverley. He's had the technical ability to do OK in the Champo but his issue was he would take the ball, turn his back on play before turning back again. At that point the impetus in the attack was killed. He was also physically below what we need and was bullied out of games later on but that should somewhat iron out with age which you can't hold against him.

If he's asked to play a simple game of win and move it he'll do OK but we had Chalobah who did that better. If he needs to be progressive as he needed to with us, then he'll come unstuck as he could do it but chose not to nearly every time which was why he was dropped.

OK, not that far. I think he will be a lower end PL player in 5 or so years.

    Completely agree.

The issue he had before coming here, as I mentioned earlier in the thread, was his inability to assert himself, even on U23 games.

His first competitive team, far away from home, was an absolute shambles, had no leaders, poor morale, and he had very little movement ahead of him.

He needed consistency and confidence to utilise his pretty substantial technical ability, but he got two managers who seem clueless in orchestrating a side that can put five good passes together. If you put him in a side with any semblance of a cohesive midfield unit and he will thrive at this level, as I'm sure we will see at Forest.

I don't think he's the Michael Carrick type that United fans want him to be, but he has the ability to be a Premier League player with a bit more experience.

Mind you, Cleverley didn't exactly emerge in a strong midfield era!
