Thought this would make for a more interesting discussion than the usual POTS thread. Lots of competition.

So which player has been the biggest disappointment this season?

    It's a toughy...

Gray hands down on and off the pitch.

Maybe for expectation Sarr but then he he our main attacking threat in a non attacking side .

Gray's been really really bad. But can't say he has disappointed us - that's dependent on having high expectations for him heading into the season. I chose Quina for that reason: thought he'd be a dominant player at the tip of our midfield and obviously, for a number of reasons, it hasn't panned out.

Gray. Utterly pathetic and devoid of any sense of a footballing brain. I was tempted to put Murray but he almost scored at Wycombe, and tripped over his own feet. Not fun to pick on OAP's anyway.

None. The lads have all been great. Strongest in the league. Anyone who has any vague misgivings about our squad should go and support Man City or something.

To put Gray would imply that we expected him to be competent in this league. Went for Quina because I thought he'd be quality this year. Sarr and Hughes have also underperformed imo (although Hughes may come good given a run of games).

Cleverly and Sema deserve credit for consistency.

Kiko is the only player who's exceeded my expectations.

For all Gray's faults, I still thought double figures was a realistic target for him, but he's really plunged new depths on and off the pitch this past year

People go on about how they hate the entire team, and sure, they're not the lovable scamps we saw in the early Pozzo days, but I still think there's only a small handful of ****s in this team, but that's all it takes to make an atmosphere absolutely toxic sometimes. Besides, they are highly paid ****s who are preventing us from starting a much-needed rebuild...

    Voted Masina.

Genuinely thought he'd be a class apart in this league. But sadly he's been utter dog shyte.

Went for Troost Ekong as I genuinely thought he'd be a class above the other centre halfs we had.

I didn't think Murray or Gray would light the league up so their 'performances' haven't been a let down, just my low expectations coming to fruition. Perhaps a little disappointed Quina didn't kick on a bit more.

And while Sarr hasn't reached the heights some expected (as if he was going to reach Liverpool levels each week) we're a far far weaker team with him not in it.

It's Deeney. Came back from pre season overweight, got a head coach sacked and replaced by a much worse one.

But more than that... we all tear our hair out about how we thought Andre Gray might've scored goals at this level but Deeney has played 50% more minutes and also only scored once from open play. And then there's the effort. He doesn't make runs, he doesn't challenge for headers, he doesn't close defenders down, he doesn't sprint. Almost every game, he just walks around the pitch as though he's too good for this division. He's stealing a living putting in minimal effort.

I voted for Gray, it was obvious that he was not good enough for the Premier League, but he had a decent scoring record in the Championship.
I did have hope that he might have manifested that again, but not a chance.
Considering his salary and his purchase price, probably the biggest let down in the history of the club.
Perhaps even in the history of the Football league.

Same as others on this thread, I foolishly though Gray would get double figures in this league. In fact it's a rare occasion he touches the ball more than 5 times in an appearance.

Masina has only had 4 starts after a long injury so harsh to include him, especially after the part he played in the Norwich win

Knew Gray was bad already so I've gone Chalobah.

Keeps getting my hopes up and then failing to pass 5 yards, not closing down, or getting caught in possession.

He should be so much better, and it's not a fitness issue any more.

It seems strange to me that his biggest failing now is his inability to pass accurately. It's not something I would have expected to be made worse by his injury.

I have voted for Andre, although I wouldn't class Gray as a flop this season seeing as my expectation of him to produce was at a mere zero. But for the cost of 18m and a top earner he's far and away the player which I would like to leave the club.

Now with Sarr he hasn't produced what I thought he would at this level, I thought he would destroy the league and be a cut above every player but he hasn't shown that as of yet, I know Ivic's tactics didn't help.

Although I have been impressed with Kiko, Sema and Sierralta they all have exceeded my personal expectation.

Yeah, maybe it’s my memory playing tricks on me, but in his original loan spell, I remember him being capable of incisive passing and able to play his way out of tight spaces with either a pass or really good close control. I remember thinking his main flaw was failing to get stuck in sometimes, but it would be an element of his game that would develop as he matured physically.

Now, for the most part he does all the physical stuff, but appears to have just about lost all ability on the ball, and awareness of space.

    It’s really strange.

Sarr. My expectations for him were high in the Championship and I was amazed we kept hold of him.

Chalobah was been a flop ever since he returned bar a handful of games. Quina was always overrated and overhyped by many despite not being very good.

On the flipside, I've been surprised at how well Femenia has adapted to the Championship.

I agree. It's not like playing with 10 men with Gray on the pitch, it's actually worse than that. (I'm serious!)

Gray by a mile. People can rightly mention low expectations but I don’t think there were many people who thought he’d have only managed one goal by February, having played nearly every match since recovering from his pre-season injury.

Throw in his off the field misdemeanours too at a time when our club was working hard to gain praise for its community work during the pandemic, and there can only be one winner of this poll.

Sarr has generally underwhelmed too, but maybe we are partly to blame there for over hyping him. Hughes as well, although in his case it’s hardly been his fault having been injured, then not started and then started out of position. Capoue underwhelmed in his limited appearances before his move. I don’t think we’ve seen the best of Troost-Ekong yet, but then again he did join us at a time when he’d been out of form for a while with Udinese. Perica has overall been underwhelming too, hardly helping his cause with his stupid three match ban. Enough has already been said about our two PL loanees.

Ironically the successes of the season have tended to be players that few had high expectations for. Sierralta. Femenía. Bachman. I suspect Gosling might fall into this category too. Here’s hoping.

The other flop of the season, though not for this poll, has to be the Head of Recruitment. To sign two premier league loanees who end up leaving us early, a striker on the cheap who gets one goal by February, and to ignore key positions where we really needed reinforcements is terrible.

Has to be Gray. Not just because he's been so poor, but also there was a perception that he could be prolific at this level again given the sheer number of chances that would come his way, and the confidence that that would build. Couldn't have been further from the case...
