Leventhal has pointed to a piece by The Athletic’s Burnley correspondent - lots of moving parts that would need to fall into place to happen....but we are interested in bringing Vydra back on loan. https://theathletic.com/2336678/202...ootball-soccer/#click=https://t.co/a6PGmo6iZ3
If anyone who has a subscription could add any more body to this by breaking down what the article says, please do! I can’t be bothered to create another email just to get a weeks trial!
Basically he is 4th choice at Burnley, they will let him go and would prefer a sale, but want to get someone else in before/if he goes. We are only interested in a loan!
Putting aside whether he'd want to come back after we ****ed him around after promotion the last time he was here, this doesn't strike me as being particularly likely. At least in the case of Bournemouth, they have a decent Prem striker that Burnley would want...whether King wants to go there now is another matter
Burnley just linked with 28 year-old former Leicester striker Ahmed Musa on a free - seems it's between them and WBA. Sounds plausible, hopefully Burnley get him, allowing Vydra to us. https://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/read_news.php?nid=38705
Yes seems pretty fair to me. Get it done Dychey! Was trying to remember what Gray's recent horrendous miss at home to Barnsley reminded me of and it was Vydra's second against Leeds in the 6-1. Almost identical break, ball across and keeper coming out... except of course, Vydra nonchalantly lifted it over the keeper whilst Gray spooned it wide.
If it damages JPs development in any way then absolutely no. I fear though this will mean he goes on loan around Spain for a couple of years and then gets sold to a top Spanish club.
Tbf JP can't play every game, if Deeney has to play every game, I'd much rather he play alongside Vydra than Gray
Yep, JP can't play every game (or at least he can't start every game), plus he can also play as the left-sided forward sometimes.
Joao Pedro was interviewed saying he was happy in England, at Watford and wants to stay for a number of years. (I imagine he meant England for the last part). Can't see him going elsewhere. Vydra would surely replace Murray in the squad and we'd be more open to letting Gray go as well I'd bet.
In order for the Otter to return he would surely want assurances to start would he not? However the season is a slog so if Disco Xisco can facilitate then that's good.
Why not? Are we seriously proposing to bench JP for Vydra? Talk about going backwards... a ******* awful decision of the club goes for it.
Not going to set my hopes too high on this one as there seems to be a lot on things that have to fall into place before it becomes possible, however, it is good to hear the club are trying to make something happen. We all know Vydra's game, but I think you can forget he is still that star striker who had that 6 month purple patch when he first signed for us. His career has levelled off quite a bit since then, but he will certainly be an upgrade on Gray and would fit into the style of play we're trying to move towards. Plays well off Deeney. Sema/Pedro on one wing. Deeney and Vydra in the middle with Sarr/Zinckernagel on the right. Perica and Gray backing up the central positions. That sounds very good to me. Reading the story it would appear that Burnley only really want to sell, rather than loan him. Sounds like another Ben Gibson situation with them, and I think it'll probably go to the wire before anything happens, if at all.
Nobody (apart from possibly Deeney, and at a push Bachmann) is going to start every game until the end of the season, it's a heavy schedule
Call me a cynic..... but whenever a deal involving Watford leaks to the press it’s normally done and confirmed very quickly after .... I’m pretty sure Xisco came out and said he was happy with the strikers he has and that leventhal said the club didn’t feel we needed a striker ...... this strikes me of a leak after a tentative enquiry to make it look like we are trying to get a striker in and is nothing more than that - We won’t sign a striker as we can’t shift Murray or Gray .....and I’m not even sure we will sign a midfielder for that matter ..... if we do it’ll be an Udinese loan. I’d love to be wrong btw
Two quick things though: Leventhal has no idea. And Xisco would always back the players he already has if asked about them. I wouldn't read too much into anything either of them say. If Gino wants a new striker, it'll have very little to do with Xisco.
Blimey. Could be part of the reason he seemed to fizzle out at the end of the season? (Until the volley against Leicester)
Can't imagine it happening, Vydra wanted to leave in the summer but Burnley activated the optional 1 year extension clause in his contract, presumably so they could sell him and not lose him for free. That didn't happen in the summer so it would be unlikely they let him leave on loan in January (which would again mean losing him for free in the summer).
