Anyone hoping to see them replace the terrible duo up front might be in for some disappointment. Both are out for " few weeks" Good news is that Pedro is back in training. Mixed news on the defensive front too. https://www.watfordfc.com/news/injury-update-cathcart-joao-pedro-return-to-training All COVID's fault apparently
My prediction is if we saw these two play for a number of weeks, the exact same opinion will be formed as of the Gray/Deeney partnership. None of our central strikers are any good, no matter what combination you use.
Remarkably convenient that any competition for our bestest mates front two is injured and no doubt will be forever.
I'm not sure, I think they would both be an improvement but they wouldn't be enough of an improvement to fire us to the automatic promotion places. Perica for me has the best movement out of our other strikers (especially Troy) and he is technically better than Gray. The goal against Brentford that was incorrectly ruled out but was movement to get half a yard on the strikers and a good finish. Neither Gray or Deeney would have put that away as they can't attack the ball. Perica has shown glimpses that he can do that. Succes is better than Gray in every department, he is just as quick and is stronger and has more technical ability. We could literally replace Gray with a penguin and it would have the same impact.
Perica not been seen since Deeney said that at this level he's got to be burying that chance against Norwich on Hive Live. 'not digging out Stipe, obviously, but he had to bury that, he's clearly not as good as me and I just need to make that really obvious to the fans. Not digging him out, though. Not at all'
A bit strange that Troost-Ekong was not mentioned, no? Seen a few pictures on his and the club's social media of him smiling and training, but not mentioned in the injury update. Maybe just an oversight?
Didn't Gray in particular miss 2 very good chances too? Perica slipped or stepped on the ball if I remember - those things happen.
This was his ‘go to’ about Deulofeu as well if I remember rightly. Knew he was nowhere near as good so felt the need to highlight every miss Deulofeu made. Remember him digging Geri out about it at the fan event.
To be fair this is coming from such an incredible finisher Wonder if there was a bit of mind games as Troy didn't fancy the competition.
If we added every single of of our strikers together and made one player we’d still only have half a Steve Kabba.
If this is all true about Perica he wouldve got more game time up to now. Things could change going forward of course. As for Success, wide of the mark, all he ever could do was draw fouls bringing the ball out. So he's got it to prove. I dont particularly care who partners Deeney as long as it helps us win games but your praise for players hardly seen so far is a bit over the top. And referring Gray to a penguin kills credibility further as its just a personal attack. Deeney has less movement.
When was the last time Success actually played!? So much for being ready to get involved... I mean how much are we paying to be injured all the time? He should be big, powerful and strong but spends most of the time on the floor. Mind you even Perica did that a couple of times - but he is younger and certainly more mobile. This Phil Z will probably end up playing as a striker with Pedro.
It seems to me that even if Success suddenly comes good that he won't be around for long, as he is not expected to be fit until the END OF FEBRUARY!!! That will mean he will have been out for a year before he returns, which seems to me to be a long time to be out with a HAMSTRING INJURY!!! Therefore to me that does not bode well for his chances of staying fit for long. As for Perica I have had high hopes that he might turn into a decent striker for us, however he too is out until mid-February!!! This makes me wonder if we might have a "Mr. Sicknote" on our hands, as he has already had a few innocuous injuries during his short time with us. All in all although they both have the potential to be decent strikers, I have to ask ARE THEY BOTH JUST TOO INJURY PRONE?
A bit harsh. But yet, this is feeling like the second half of 2007/08, when we had such riches to choose from up front as Kabba, Ellington, Priskin and Henderson (who picked up more cards than actual goals, though still ended up our top scorer).
Success had an Achilles problem that kept him out for a long time I think. Hamstring seems to be a new issue.
Fair enough - Success has been around so long he is probably younger than I think . We do seem to have players who pick up a lot of secondary injuries but maybe it’s the norm ?
This is his fifth season at Watford and he's only made a fraction of the impact that, say, Danny Graham made in two. What a waste.
I think that you are getting confused, I was suggesting that the players are better than Gray and Deeney not that they were excellent players. I think it is fair to say Perica attacks the ball better than Gray or Deeney seeming as he has actually managed to get on the end of crosses something the others definitely don't. Secondly, I am not well off the mark about Success I said previously that he is arguably just as fast as Gray and he is certainly stronger and has better technical ability than him, seeming as he can actually control the ball and pass it (again I am not saying that he is brilliant but simply pointing out that Success would be an improvement on Gray). I also said that we could play a penguin up front and it would have the same impact, I am not sure that is a personal attack, more of an observation about Gray's effectiveness. I don't know why Perica hasn't played more but I partly think it's down to the managers not wanting to play two big strikers and for whatever reason, they won't drop Deeney. Perica has still managed 1 goal which is the same amount of goals as Gray and the same number of goals from open play as Deeney.
£12.5m we paid for Isaac Success. Possibly the worst business this club has ever done. £18.5m for Gray was horrific but at least he had the occasional good moment.
Very loyal though. While Richarlison has moved on, he's stuck with us. Must be due a testimonial soon ? Doubt he'd be fit, or get in the team though :-(
Its almost comforting to have reached the point in the calendar year where we collectively have that brief, fleeting hope that Isaac Success will miraculously come good. He is a mass of despair. In terms of his Watford career as a whole, actually playing football seems to have been a minor inconvenience for him - an unpleasant and tedious chore he has to do every once in a while. Perica doesn't look that great tbh, and seems to be gathering the same clamour to be played that Will Hoskins had literally because he's Someone Else. Though having said that, I'd start him over either of The Tw@ts in a heartbeat. Comparing these guys to our 2014/15 strike force of Deeney (pre-PL), Vydra, Ighalo and Forestieri is hugely depressing, and another obvious reason why we won't be promoted.
We've gone full circle haven't we? We're now pinning our hopes on the return of Isaac Success (once again) who has scored 2 ******* league goals since 2016
Before I make a comment, can I just check, do you mean the animal or the biscuit? Actually never mind it works both ways.
