Only 221 minutes for them this season - so used a bit, but perhaps not enough to suggest he's indispensable.

    Probably still unlikely though.

I guess it depends whether they feel like they have enough cover, I would be very happy with Walace though.

Ah hahaha, Onion bravely spouting off about blocking people, is he? Yet another strong moment from him. He'll be denying point blank that he said it in a few minutes.

Without a midfielder who can win the ball, no strikers who can score, no defenders who can defend. Ivic did a bloomin good job keeping us in the play off places then. :)

Seems extreme to block you based on yesterday’s exchange. We had another character try to ban further discussion on the Pape Gueye fiasco today as well. This place makes you scratch your head.

I mean, I've never been enough of a baby/had cause to block anyone here, but particularly when the entire exchange was purely someone continually refusing to admit something they had said despite direct proof being provided on top of the original post and multiple witnesses attesting to it.

To then boast about it the next day whilst whining about the theoretical concept of other posts of mine he, as a result, can't even see, is just truly the biggest brain move possible.

Or we could move Wilmot into CM because of his excellent passing ability as was suggested earlier in the thread - we’ve got more than enough cover with Masina at CB anyway apparently.

He’s an England international. Of course a ‘spell’ in the Championship is a bad option for him. Even more so in a tournament year! And the ‘he’s a LB so can play in CM’ point is beyond baffling!

It’s just never, ever gonna happen!

Without a decent replacement we're not going up in the top 2, I'd say.

Central midfield has been a problem all season.

Caps being injured / wanting out / attempting to get sent off hasn't helped.

At least he's hardly played so not a big change to lose him.

@onion8837 is a sensitive old sort. I'm surprised he even still bothers to post on here at all considering he thinks football is "just a few blokes kicking a ball around" (paraphrasing).

If Arsenal keep struggling then maybe we can persuade a few of their players to hop over the fence - an ideal scenario would be a midfield duo of Walace & Granit.

I went full bedwetter at the thought of selling him in the summer. Not anymore. He's not up for it. Cash in and get a replacement who gives a ****.

I’m convinced we’re broke. We need his wages off the books and ideally (from Gino’s perspective) we’ll be able to sell Sarr for at least what we paid. I felt in the summer that there weren’t any concrete rumours of interest in the pair but stories kept emerging as we tried to push them on clubs.

Gueds and Watson, certainly in Watson’s case had nowhere near the ability of Capoue, yet contributed significantly more towards promotion that Capoue has ever looked like doing this season. Not saying it’s easy, but there should be players available with less talent but that can make more significant contribution.

I think Deeney and Gray on the payroll wasn’t in the plan and is making cashflow much worse than expected. It’s a disaster we have two such poor strikers on such high wages. Given that situation getting a fee for Capoue and removing his 3 year wage commitments feels necessary.

    I'm genuinely confused.

A point was made that Javi Gracia made a small comment regarding Wilmot being a potential CM in the future. So I asked how that ended up? It was a genuine question and is entirely relevant given Wilmot has not played CM again, had a season at CB with Swansea and has played CB (and occasionally LB) so far this season. Not to mention Gracia was sacked too.

Not sure why you're trying to start something here in all honesty!

Gino needs to break the habit of a lifetime (OK, more like 5 years) and bring in players who are motivated to play for us!

1 open play goal from his final 6 games seems to reiterate the point quite nicely.

Injures and dips in form from our central defenders would mean Wilmot moving forward to midfield as highly unlikely. Could he play there of course, would we want that though?
As people are saying I'd imagine it would be somebody from Udinese or bought by them and put straight on loan to us.
But I do believe we'll dip into the market for a forward to play alongside Captain fantastic if Gray doesn't bang a few in during January. So on that note we will be looking for a goal scorer. But they're not cheap. Still hoping that Dyche has a meltdown and we swap Gray for Vydra.

I haven't read the article - but I've read elsewhere that Leventhal has said that it is no surprise to anyone at the club that Capoue is moving on.

With Etienne Capoue set to depart to Villarreal, Watford are in the hunt for a player of a similar profile in central midfield too. Removing a top earner from the wage bill is welcome but it means Watford have lost a senior player from their side. It’s understood his impending departure, which was expected in the summer, has not come as much of a surprise to the dressing room.

    This felt inevitable.

One of the classiest players I've seen at Watford, but was barely playing this season, so surely won't be a massive impact on the field.

Wish him all the best, deserves to play in a top league.

Hasn't been great this season and doesn't seem to be particularly arsed about it, but even at 60% effort he's still comfortably our best midfielder. So really this is nothing other than bad news.

We're clearly desperate to get the money/wages off the budget. Another reason to be infuriated about Andre Gray's wages/existence.

Need a strong, cheap replacement immediately who'll hit the ground running. Would be lying if I said I felt confident we'll achieve that.

This has a whiff of when we sold King in 2008 and it effectively ruined our promotion push.

King was looking to leave Watford from the time of his injury, after which it was apparent we were going down. Boothroyd managed to persuade him to stay the following summer when he was looking to offload Henderson, but King jumped at the chance of going in the January. It was a case of keeping a player who didn’t really want to be at the club and then not doing it a second time.

Goes to show you can have all the talent in the world but if you don't combine it with hard work then it goes nowhere.
Gueds and Watson, same as Hogg , not as talented, but by hell they worked hard for the team.
