Slightly different player, but our very own Mooney admitted that he was too good for the championship but not good enough for the PL. I’m pretty sure he even said he preferred playing in the championship.

Neither player is the Mozart of their positions. More like, who's better, the guy who writes for Eastenders or the guy who writes songs for Little Mix.

He won't. We don't yet know he won't because it hasn't happened yet, but I know he wont because he's utter, utter ****.

Based on scraping a few early season wins in which we still looked mostly poor. The bigger picture is that we are now looking worse and worse with each passing game, our clean sheets that brought about those wins have evaporated, we can't score goals (or attack at all, actually), we have a manager that seemingly only knows one formation and we are playing some of the worst football I've ever seen us play.

Wins are wins, do you think Reading are saying the same after scraping (albeit more than us) wins where they also looked poor? The last couple of games were a shambles, that's undeniable and we're crying out for an out and out striker, no matter who they are cos JP and Sarr obviously isn't working, but I still have faith that our best is yet to come and it certainly isn't too late for it to all come together.

Reading have 7 points more than us, have lost one game and are top of the league. Reading also don't have the supposed "talent" that we have and have lesser expectation on what they're expected to achieve this season.

If you're still hopeful based on what we've seen so far then fair play to you, but to me it's a clear continuation of the mess that was last season featuring a number of the same, below par, over the hill players, a complete lack of any obvious philosophy or identity on the pitch, and a manager who is completely rigid and either unable or unwilling to adapt when things clearly are not working

Leave it Nath. We have this every year. Some of us spotting the obvious drop off. Others point blank refusing to accept it exists, until it is finally born out and then they switch to mitigation. You can't argue with them any more than you can catch a rainbow, because their argument is constantly shifting according to the slowly dawning reality, that they'll never truly embrace.

The continuation of a mess with the same players seemed to work for Fulham + West Brom last season as they both bounced back. Norwich also looking good this season.

So? We're not them. I see little point comparing our club and our situation to anyone else just because of some potential, loose similarities that don't really mean anything. Different club, different owner, different manager, different squad, different problems.

I spot there's a problem, but think it can certainly be addressed. Whether it is or not remains to be seen, but it's pretty obvious what that is (lack of an out and out striker). When we actually have one for more than 1 game in a row hopefully we'll see a change, if we don't then that's the time to kick up a fuss. What would you have liked the set-up to be today considering none of our strikers are actually ready to start?

I disagree. Think the problem goes far deeper. We are rotten all over the park.

I don't think that a simple addition of one player would fix this club/side and even if it could, I feel very confident that we would never identify and sign that player.

It just blows my mind that the absolute worst examples from our lowest lows in the Premier League are back to being nailed on starters at this level and, surprise surprise, it's producing the same results.

Anyone who thought the likes of Tom f**king Cleverley were suddenly going to be "more than good enough" at this level - and there were a lot of them - is a complete moron. He hasn't been close to "good" for almost a decade.

The Championship is not such a step down that genuinely poor players suddenly become great, especially when they're now past their prime, and the majority look entirely as bad at this level as they did in the Premier League. Shocking...

    I’ve just thought about what I personally believe is our best team. Here it is;

    Foster
    Ngakia Wilmot ekong Femenia
    Capoue
    Sarr Hughes sema
    Gray Pedro

I’ve gone for a 4231 formation with plenty of attack but also provide plenty of defensive ability with a holding denfensive midfielder in Capoue. This formation just highlights what a waste it is in the championship playing 5 at the back, especially one of those players being Sema who is a very good winger especially at this level.

Looking at this lineup I believe we would gain promotion on paper. It couldn’t be further away from the team and formation we put out today. Chalobah for me is done, he is at his peak of ability and just adds nothing to the team. The same can be said for playing Sarr up front. He is a winger so play him as a winger. Make it happen Vlad or you will be gone sooner than you think

Agreed. You have to laugh at people who thought players like Cleverley were suddenly going to become competent footballers.

4-3-3. Murray up top with Sarr/Sema either side. Femenia left back, Ngakia right back. Pedro and Gray off the bench

Not really worth a thread of its own so sticking it here - in the latest YouTube video, Foster and Troost-Ekong had to guess players from their Football Manager stats. There was a telling moment when someone had a really high score for Leadership and they couldn't think of anyone in the squad it could be! Says it all really...

When (checks notes) Hughes is back. Or failing that, when ((Masina?)) Is back. Then it will all click into place.

Either he's regressed or he just had a wonderful, purple patch.

That's happened to players before too. Seem to be able to turn everything into goals for a spell and then, it stops and never comes back.

I think the way the players are being told to play is having as much of an impact on the results as the players.
They are set up and coached to defend and not concede to the extent that attacking is frowned upon. Ivic seems to aim not to win but just to make sure we don't concede at all costs.
Apart from a few outliers this is reflected in the 0-0s, 1-1s and 1-0 games and the general lack of goals.

A different coach may get a different tune out of them it might not be much better and may be limited by the players we have but I thought the received wisdom was that you score your way out of this league and at our level defend and draw to stay in the prem.

There’s not a single Watford player on that pitch smiling or enjoying their football. Fact.
