Pretty irrelevant. There's no evidence that he could do it in the Champo so we should look to sell in January and bring in experience like Charlie Austin or Billy Sharp.
9 goals in 61 apps since he got his chance in La Liga. Not great, but seems popular wherever he goes so he must be doing something right, even if he's found it difficult to step up, goalscoring wise, from segunda. Still only 21, of course.
In fairness he's played for two relegated clubs and is now starting out at a club who scored 43 goals in La Liga last season. Even if we were a Prem club I'd still be intrigued by him, but in the Championship? Well, it's not going to happen in all likelihood, but let me dream for one second!
I'd still 100% take him over Gray. May not really be scoring in La Liga, but the Championship isn't La Liga and he can actually control, pass and dribble a football.
Suarez has started scoring now though with 2 goals in his last 2 games for Granada - one a thumping shot from just inside the area (https://streamable.com/8aesi0) and the other was a sublime little chip (https://twitter.com/antorchanoticia/status/1333129405913305091) over the keeper after a run from the halfway line. If only we had them both.
Damn. Really stings to see a striker run beyond the defense AND put the ball into the back of the net.
There's a reason for that, and it's something which I've been saying on here for about 3 years now but somehow people still can't get their head around it - it's because he's not a striker! He's a wide-forward. Or, being pedantic, he's a 'second-striker'.
If it's any consolation, even if we were in the Prem, he probably would have rather played for Granada anyway
I'm sure he could do a job in the Championship as a central striker (unless of course we're forced to play him and Sarr together in a 3-5-2 lol)
He only works in a 2 if it's alongside a more target-man type striker such as Troy or Perica (hence why I mentioned he can play as a 'second-striker'). He also isn't effective as the focal point in a 4-3-3.
There's a difference between a 'wide forward' (ie a Sarr/Deulofeu) and a 'second striker', no? I always took 'second striker' to mean a more withdrawn forward But anyway, I digress, Cucho would be an excellent addition to the side, either as an option on the left, or as one of two up top with a bigger lad to partner him (which most of our available strikers are tbf)
He usually "withdraws" to the flanks (including when his team is playing a 442 and he's one of the two). Even if he doesn't start explicitly in the Deulofeu wide forward position he ends up drifting there anyway. He'd probably be better than JP right now, and that's whose minutes he'd most likely take if he came. I really doubt he'll come to the Champ anyway though.
The club said there was a recall option. But whether it is just a straightforward ‘we want him back’ type option, who knows. Could be caveats that we can only recall him if he’s played less than a set amount of games or if he gets awarded a work permit etc. The club definitely said we had a recall option - but they previously said Getafe had the option to sign him too. And Leventhal has subsequently said there’s no recall option which contradicts the latest we heard from the club. My guess is we hear nothing, he stays there’s until the summer and then joins them or someone else in Spain.
Seems to be playing regularly in La Liga and let’s face it, there’s zero chance he could make us worse. He got to be better than Andre Gray. I fail to believe he’s not.
