Well the other 4 were done with his right, but a majority of the "bad" balls were played with his weaker foot.

This is the ***** that failed to send off Mon gs for a deliberate handball last season. Today VAR sees fit to notify the twit of a possible handball by Ladleof and Atkinson decides unlike last season to consult the pitchside monitor. If he ever comes to Vicarage Road with a crowd he should be booed constantly. Let's not forget the upset he caused led to an immediate equalizer and the Mo ng creature scoring the winner.

Defensive observations spot on. I'm not too concerned about the attacking side of things at the moment, injuries and 'will they they/wont they stay' scenarios means patience is required, and once Ivic knows what he's got then that side of things will hopefully click into place after the transfer window shuts. Keep it tight at the back until then.

Atkinson is a dreadful referee, one of those who is more concerned about what the decisions will do to his reputation rather than what the right call is. The bias he showed towards Man Utd when we played there back in February was unbelievable, literally every time we tackled them he gave a free kick even if the United player didn't go to ground. The refs in the championship might be of a lesser standard but at least there will be no bias involved.

Maybe he made up for that with his decisions yesterday then?

Bit late for us I know.

If we can back that point up with a win against the scum next week it would be a brilliant start with the squad we have available.

If anything we've gone back further than square one. Compare the team that started in the first match of the Pozzo era (away at Palace, August 2012) with yesterday's

Manuel Almunia, Carl ****inson, Martin Taylor, Nyron Nsoworthy, Lloyd Doyley, Mark Yeates, Jonathan Hogg, John Eustace, Sean Murray
    Almen Abdi, Joe Garner

Subs: Bond, Hodson, Iwelumo, Forsyth, Vydra, Connor Smith, Adam Thompson

How many of yesterday's starting 11 would you pick ahead of the 'boys of 2012'? As for the bench....

To have such a weak squad as we appear to have now after five seasons in the EPL is scandalous. Something has clearly gone very wrong at the club

Well, I suppose it can be taken at a number of levels. But, (sort of on the point) I was interested to hear Mooney and (I think Smart) and Foster comment on the deliberately long, dry grass, designed to slow the ball down. Presumably because Wednesday thought it would screw up our passing game. & in the first half it probably did help by the looks of things.

Refreshing to see the opposition dead on their feet towards the end of the match, instead of the Watford players. May that happen frequently.

Our starting 11 is way worse than even the most pessimistic on here predicted 2 months ago.

Can someone post the lineup from our first ever game in 1881? I want to compare it to the current lineup to establish how far we've come.

Agreed, but that's still missing the fundamental point. GP mortgaged all on not getting relegated & now we're faced with the consequences. Everyone knows he's ****5d up royally, so what is the point of going over & over that fact? He's been hung, drawn & quartered once by the majority on here, even the so-called "happy clappers"; there is no mileage in trying to do it again & again.

Personally I'm not seeing any club excelling in the league so far. On that note I don't or didn't expect anything of the sort after two games.
What do people really expect so far with all the turmoil that's going on at the moment.

    Nearly all of them.

Out of the starting 11 Almen Abdi gets in this side, I can't make a case for anyone else. Of the subs Vydra does.

Yep, that's why I added the qualifier to Atkinson's name, he's very capable of a shocking performance, perhaps his age is catching up with him.

You for real Carpster? It's 2020. We have come close to world war 3 with the US and Iran, Australia nearly burnt down, the North got flooded and people were left homeless for weeks, then there was the small matter of Covid which has crippled and impacted over 200 countries with nearly 1m dying, and countless unemployed. We're now being told that there's signs of some form of life on Venus. Trump has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize. Can you tell me something which has gone right this year, or anything good?

On the basis of the above, losing to the scum is highly likely in 2020, and would sum up this year.

We have had 3 poor performances (inc Oxford), and it really isn’t the team I would like to see play (so not defending the squad, yesterday was terrible) , but we are unbeaten and have 3 points from the first 4.

It is entirely possible that as bad as our squad is, it is still better than most of the championship sides. I really hope some of our star players stay , but even the return of players like Hughes (can’t come fast enough) or Kiko / Janmat could really give the squad the stability it needs to kick on.

We're basically the polar-opposite of the side that got promoted. We used to score for fun and had a midfield that oozed class. Any success this season will rely massively on our defence keeping clean-sheets.

Genuinely I’d only take Abdi and he wasn’t even Premier league material. The rest of that team is total dog **** by any standard.

We wanted the bad apples out, and the saleable assets to play until they're sold. At the moment neither group plays, and the result is a shambles. Defensible only if the saleable assets are all bad apples.

I’d prob have had Eustace and Abdi from the starting 11. Though Eustace v Chalobah i’d only pick Eustace if he’s at top form and Chaobah is right down on form. Abdi for quina. I’d have Vydra from the bench as most obvious choice.

Did that midfield ooze class when we lost 5-1 to Derby 4 games in? Way too early to make any assumptions about what kind of team we'll be this season, especially considering how different it's likely to look in 5 games time.

That 5-1 game was coincidentally when little Will Hughes scored his first goal for Derby, he must have only been 17/18 years old!

    H.Wheeler (gk); W.Horton, H.J.Capell & L.Doyley (backs); S.J.Valentine & W.Hurndall [1 goal] (left forwards); G.Waterman & H.T.Horton (right forwards); T.Smith, A.Christmas & W.Grace (centres)

This was the first known Watford Rovers eleven.
