I'm sure there was a match thread around here somewhere... Lost it now. Or maybe it wasn't a crucial relegation 9 pointer or anything.
I enjoy reading club history anytime - and right now it's taking my mind off Fridays all or nothing showdown! Carry on
I truthfully don't even know what he looks like or what nationality he is. I just googled and he's ENGLISH!! We'll absolutely snot them on Friday.
I've had to watch a lot of West Ham this season so here's my two sense. Reasons to think we'll lose: - Antonio is in great form and always scores against us. - They are a real threat at set pieces with Soucek and Ogbonna & we look pretty ropey from them. - Jarrod Bowen has been really good, and they have a threat on both wings. Reason to think we could win: - Full back is by far their weakest position. Cresswell up against Sarr could be a big opportunity. - They are ropey at defending set pieces and we've looked pretty good from them. - They're good on the counter, but not great against teams who sit back. They had Mark Noble playing as chief playmaker on Saturday.
Or sitting huddled under an umbrella at Headingly, likening the dark clouds and constant mizzle to his morning conversation with mother. 'Oh dear. The flask I recently acquired from Farthwaite's, the little shop near where I had my first hair cut, is leaking. A slow almost undetectable seepage much like the rain which continues to hold up play. Will I ever get to see the strapping young Gormsworth pound in with a brand new cherry in hand and a trembling young Oxbridge starlet in his crisply ironed whites at the far end of no mans land? Now my tea has penetrated the tin foil keeping my egg and cress sandwiches fresh. "Where are you sun?", I mumble to myself, much like mother will be thinking of me right now.'
Problem over, the gathering has been moved to the afternoon. Thanks for all your messages of support and help.
Think I would rather go to the gathering than watch this. I'm sh1tting myself now so god knows what I'll be like Friday. Please god let Villa and Bournemouth lose
Not that it makes much difference but a few social media Watford fan sites have polled a few fans and asked them how many points they think we will get from our final three games. 85% said one point. Pretty scary when you consider we could be going into the biggest three games since our promotion. I elude to the fact this exact moment may mean more to the club than our FA Cup Semi win. A lot of you guys have nailed on some brilliant reasons why we are where we are - and it's all correct. If we do end up going down, and I really hope we do not, it's difficult to see where the Pozzos's will go. Let's go back quite far into the tenure with us. Dux said he wants us to "become the best of the rest". In football terms, that's 7th placed team trying to break into the top six. A bit like Wolves are becoming now. It's funny to think back to him saying this, as nothing has changed defence wise bar Dawson. We have improved our midfield and we do have some young raw blood in attack. If this is really what the club want to aim for - then why was nothing done to help us get there? Teams build from that back - something GT said once and he is spot on. If you cannot keep goals out it doesn't matter how many you can score. If none of our problem areas are addressed whether we are a Premiership side or a Championship side next season - that "best of the rest" dream will fall apart like our side does every time we play Citee.
If we start the game like the 2nd half of the last game then getting something out of it is a possibility. Not difficult to see WH 1 or more goals up by half time if we start slowly again. That should read "They are ropey at defending set pieces and Dawson's looked pretty good from them."
It will all depend on a number of factors is Deeney injured , if he is and we play Sarr and Welbeck up front we could look dangerous If Villa and Muff lose on Wed / Thur will Pearson play for a draw and is this the logical plan , if we are 4 ahead of both with 2 to play and better goal difference (until we meet city) we should be safe
Sarr needs to play wide as full back is one of West Ham's weaknesses. Is Deeney out injured? Not sure why but I think I would leave Welbeck out wide as well and play Gray. He may be rubbish but he does have a knack for scoring important goals
weirdly against Newcastle we were playing through midfield and out the back a lot more (mainly 2nd half) and surprise, surprise we managed to keep hold of the ball
there was talk after the last match that he was hobbling off injured and was playing with a ****ed knee
https://twitter.com/AdamLeventhal/status/1281994216311345153 https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/s...captain-troy-deeneys-knee-problem-manageable/
if he can’t walk on it for 2 days , you would think playing him was out of the question , but who knows
I would much rather start Welbeck up front than Troy anyway. Kind of hoping that Troy isn't fit enough to start if I am honest.
Have Deeney on the bench in case we get a late penalty. Then sub him on to take it, and straight off after he scores. You know this is what the 5 subs rule was made for!
A no brainer for me if Deeney is indeed injured. Though Pearson might stick in a midfielder knowing him.
I'm pretty sure I read an interview with Pearson saying this is a normal thing at the moment for Deeney, Pearson said it's "manageable" and it's been going on for a while. I reckon he'll be starting again.
So not only is he completely out of form and makes our game plan of long ball completely toothless, he is also injured. Yet he will still start...?!
I’d play Wellbeck and Sarr up front. Doucoure is not a number 10, so I’d play Hughes further forward as he can play better quality in behind the Spam defence. If we hoof it we lose, if we keep it solid and play on the counter I think we should pick up at least a point
So, in the last week, we've won twice and seen a team we wanted to lose get beaten, why do we still feel nervous? Next two days go a long way to determining whether we stay in the 'best league in the world' or whether the Championship was better anyway...
Relieved they held out in the end! Where did that come from for Bournemouth? They were dead and buried a few days ago, and it's not even like they played particularly well against Tottenham and Leicester!
