I would play Sarr and Wellbeck up front for the rest of the season, and play an extra midfielder for the remaining games, and try and use their pace on the break. West Ham are flying at the moment, so we will need to defend really well to get any more points
Ben Foster appreciation post, can't quite remember, might have been his poor punch to concede the corner that led to their goal (although the defenders should have dealt with it far better), but what an important save that was when ASM was one on one, would have massively changed the game that
Worth noting to - Deeney asked to come off as he felt his knee wouldn't be up for the last 10. Agree with the sentiment on here though - Next season I don't want to be reliant on him - Would rather he's seen as a back up fighting for a place in the starting 11, rather than being shoehorned in carrying an injury
Very strong second half response to an awful opening half. A huge win which piles the pressure on Villa and Bournemouth. Well done lads.
Dawson done well today but I’d still pick Cathcart ahead of him. Cathcart for me is faster slightly better composure passing. Dawson’s liability’s showed in the Southampton game. But it certainly needs freshening up with more options back there. But the club won’t spend big in this position we will see Wilmot come back and then the same again next season. Does he know Attwell was on VAR? F*cking guy sees things as he hates us so much. If he thinks it was a penalty, it was a penalty.
Mr Watford put his club before his career. Heroic attitude playing with a potential career ending injury to show what it means to keep us in the EPL. He can now go into semi-retirement playing as a supersub for the rest of his career... He's now done his on-field job with his reputation intact. Thank you Troy... Welbeck and Gray/Pedro on Friday.
As an aside I had an odd one this week: someone mentioning the animosity against students from "...Doxbridge..." it took a bit research to find out WTF this was and that it's only used by students at Durham....
It's a good job I'm fit and healthy, as my heart gets a pounding every time I watch this lot. First half, rubbish, and we're down. Second half brilliant and we're staying up. Craig Poorref, who hates Watford, only gives soft penalties against us, but never stonewall ones for us, suddenly has an epiphany mid-match and awards us not one, but TWO penalties. Leaden Deeney, who shouldn't be playing (according to many) is the hero. Scoring twice with nerves of ice. Bloody hell.......have we really won back-to-back? We've really given ourselves a good chance now. You see, we did need to pick up 6 points from these two games. It's over to Villa and Bournemouth. I'll be eagerly awaiting their results. Think Villa may win their game, so it's going to go to the wire even now....most probably. Oh...btw...the fat tw&t manager of Newcstle, resting all his star players against City.....how did that work out? You got what you deserved. But I'm going to have a beer and celebrate and rare good day at the office.
Let’s role play. You’re a premier league goalkeeper. You’re facing a penalty from Troy Deeney......what do you do? It’s just bizarre that at this level, keepers don’t know what’s coming.
Really soft penalties according to Bruce. But they were illegal challenges. Cannot see what he is arguing about.
Should be us safe now. Villa and Bournemouth failing to win this weekend would all but confirm it. Nothing to say about the first half, beside the fact it highlighted exactly why we’ve been in the thick of a relegation. Lack of confidence, lack of technical ability, and a clear lack of leadership. Horrendous performance, even under pressure. Second half was better, in every aspect, but we need major changes this summer. With a likely shortened window, and a quick restart of next season, the puzzle pieces need to start coming together fast. Major upgrades required in so many areas, and I have zero faith in our technical staff to provide them. Today was basically a stay of execution. Next season will be horrific if we don’t see extensive transfer action.
That was the most clear cut one! Ritchie took out Kilo's right leg! Since the restart Dawson has been one of our best defenders and attacker at times!
They know what's coming......they are not stupid. Who in their right mind would stand in the way of a Deeney penalty? They purposely jump out of the way. It's self preservation.
To be fair, from his view it probably did look soft. It was only the behind the goal camera that showed Richie utterly cleaning him out. One of those weird ones which looks like a dive from one angle but a cast iron penalty from another.
Dreadful first half Much better second half Dawson excellent again as was Hughes Kabasele was dreadful Deeney much better and massive Bollox in taking the pens I can’t write anymore than that. I’m shattered
The irony is, despite Bruce wresting his star players for this game there are genuinely Villa fans who think he deliberately threw it to get back at them. Because a PL manager would definitely be able to persuade his players who couldn’t give two hoots about his previous beef to take part in match fixing.
I can see his argument for the 1st one. Kiko getting his toe on the end of it, not really in control of the ball and you could argue he ran into Ritchie. But softer ones have been given more stonewall ones not this time it swung our way rightly so. The 2nd he can’t argue that terrible defending allowing Sarr to role him with ease and then he may as well of carried on with the rugby tackle he half achieved Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
We equalised when I was half way home. I then proceeded to clean the kitchen as I was far too nervous to listen on the radio. Such relief and vital to keep pressure on the other two. Sounds like a good second half performance. Well done boys! You'll rarely hear me say this and don't tell Me IBB but ... EAGLES!
Regardless, I'm not sure they knew that, and sometimes it's moments like that which give you a bit of a boost
