Absolutely mindless tactics there, against the one team who can deal with long balls all day. Hopefully we get more change out of Southampton at the weekend...
In all the years I’ve watched Premier League football, we’re the only team I’ve ever see commit a foul throw. We’ve done it multiple times, if my memory serves. Now granted, I probably watch more Watford games than any other, but as every game is available to watch on TV here, I usually watch a lot of football. It’s shameful.
That's Cathcart. Cathcart moved across, Sarr was trying to catch up with McNeil, Doucoure is covering No. 8 as the drag back, Dawson is on his own in the middle and Masina is at the far post. Kiko is nowhere to be seen.
I also find that we always look so technically poor compared to any other side in the league that I watch. We have so many awkward players who hate having the ball at their feet. We lack skillful dribblers, deft touches, players who can pick a pass. Just one of our many flaws.
Exactly - burnley played basic percentage football and we absolutely failed to deal with it. How many times are we going to get done by that ***** - we learn nothing, ever.
What, compared to Burnley ? We have far better footballers, technically, but they lack balls, spine, brain and commitment
Can’t see it. We just played a depleted Burnley side that would probably struggle in the championship. No excuses for that dismal first half, credit to np for changing it but really should of gone after them from the start. Saints will do to us what they done to Norwich. Hope I’m wrong but we really are relying on 3 teams being more ***** than us. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You say that, but even Burnley have just kept more possession than us and played more passes throughout the game. We are rank incompetent both with and without the ball.
It’s a small detail, but there were several occasions today when Cleverley passed the ball to Masina, and played to his right foot, which meant Masina wasn’t able to play the ball quickly down the line, because he had to control it at an awkward angle. We do it all over the pitch, with passes that aren’t accurate enough to allow quicker play, or put the receiver into trouble.
They played basic percentage football and we failed to deal with it. I remember watching my son play U13 football and they defended better than we did. ****. ****. ****. players - **** coaching staff - **** going down - definitely
My thoughts... - We were largely ****! Absolutely spineless and pathetic first half. Second half better but still way under par and an unacceptable performance overall. The players need to take a good, hard look at themselves. - First half... Why did we sit back/stand off the opposition so much?? Zero pressing = loads of time on the ball and possession for Burnley. ******* ridiculous. Get a move on and harass their midfield, then ping the ball up the line to Sarr/Welbeck. When we actually started doing this, what happened? Burnley lost possession and we went on the counter. What were the chances? - Welbeck, whilst rustier than the Titanic at times, got into some good positions and is a better option on the LW than Pereyra. - Again, again and again we create chances but simply cannot finish them. I wonder sometimes if we actively try and screw up our goalscoring chances. - Masina should have scored with his (free) header. - Dawson should have squared his header across the 6-yard box at the beginning of the game. - One positive? Our corners have massively improved. Free kicks still mostly awful. Disgraceful effort from Capoue at the end. - Sarr is too good for these jokers. - We were lucky to have only gone into HT 1-0 down. - We got what we deserved = nothing. - Sky gave an interesting and embarrassing stat this eve = In our last 21 games in which we have conceced first, we have failed to win any of them..
We simply have a number of players who believe you don’t need to apply yourself 100% to your careers to be good footballers. A lot of them have the base level of skill to be good players but they buy into their own hype too much. The good players are the ones who do it week-after-week and are consistent. Our players don’t want to do that, it’s blindingly obvious by now. And not enough of them seem willing to put their bodies on the line to keep us up. Burnley had nothing to play for, weren’t as fresh as us, had zero subs to choose from and are in a bit of turmoil off the pitch - the game was an open goal for us and we never looked bothered about competing. I can excuse a lot of things like fitness due to the restart - but lack of application to the task at hand is not one of them. They should rightfully be embarrassed about that tonight. As for Pearson - dreadful tonight sad to say. Showing all the signs why the club are likely dubious about handing him the reigns on a longer term basis. Tactically naive, questionable starting line up and even more questionable subs. We looked all at seas whenever they got near our back line. Sarr will always look isolated when the other attacking options are so poor - it’s obvious he’s the ‘out’ ball and focus - opponents will just smother him like tonight. Sadly Burnley showed us what you can do with quality crosses and a player willing to get on the end of them - we struggle with the crossing part and are non-existent on the finishing part. 3 points on Sunday looks crucial now.
The ability to think clearly under pressure is an excellent quality to have. No one appeared to demonstrate it tonight in the fifty minutes I saw. Every match I've seen has been fairly grim but for a ridiculous game plan, poorly executed and an absolute failure to mark the McNeil chap that beats the band. Our only hope is that WHU,Villa and AFC Eddie are worse. What a waste of a great opportunity. By the time we play again we could be in the bottom three. Lord knows how we'll cope. Very, very bad. Back to Classic FM for me.
Depleted, yes, though in fairness they had most of their key players in their first XI (though they'll probably be absolutely spent by the time they play West Ham grrrrr). Limited, definitely, but they're absolutely fine at lower PL level, and excel at dealing with what we threw at them, Southampton are surely that bit more vulnerable Not that we were that good in the first half of the second half when we were on top, but I do wonder if starting with Doucoure would have been better? Cleverley was absolutely garbage, allowed them to get comfortable
We have to thank our lucky stars Burnley were so understrength today. No strikers, no players on the bench and only 50% of their squad available. It could have been another City thrashing had they been at full strength. I'm not going to bother with watching the Sunday match. Watford have thrown in the towel so what's the point in watching another gutless performance. Let's hope 28 points will be enough to stay up eh?
Poor show on our part . No pace and and slow in midfield. Didn't test Pope and Burnley got the goal with a good cross and we made it too easy.
Only Villa out of our rivals are playing at the weekend, worst case scenario we'll be 17th going into Sunday. Still a huge game, a bigger game than we were all hoping it would be...
Pope is a decent keeper so good job we kept putting all our set pieces where he could catch them. ****wits. Utter ****wits.
Another gruesome game. PL football is bad enough with crowds, without them it’s sterile garbage at least 80% of the time.
Nope. The options are: Capoue for a rugby conversion, Pereyra to meekly chip it into the wall, Deulofeu to knuckleball it wide or Holebas into the wall. Somehow the greatest scouting network in the world have failed to find a single set piece taker of any note since Zarate. Still it's not as though set piece goals can help you stay up in the Premier League is it?
Just looked back at our recent form. That Liverpool win really looks out of place. Since we beat Bournemouth away, here are our results. Spurs (h ) 0-0 D Villa (a ) 1-2 L Everton (h ) 2-3 L Brighton (a ) 1-1 D Man Utd (a ) 0-3 L Liverpool (h ) 3-0 W Palace (a ) 0-1 L Leicester (h ) 1-1 D Burnley (a ) 0-1 L Pretty abysmal. 9 games. 1 amazing win, 3 draws, 5 defeats. 6 points. It's not looking good is it. I've gone from thinking we'll stay up to we're going down after today. There was nothing in that performance. Totally gutless and inept. No fight, no desire, no hope.
Exactly this. Although you may think they could try to mitigate this via training and coaching. Has only taken 7 years but maybe there is working party looking into it
Still feeling numb after that. A huge blow in our bid for survival. No fight, no spirit & no passion. We're in huge trouble now, deserves me right for being so over confident before the game. A very depressing evening.
We're ****ed. And if we don't end up being ****ed that's because other teams are more ****ed. Not because we will become un-****ed.
We simply don't have time to **** around like that. Disgrace. Give us a big game and we invariably **** it up the wall.
