Companies that send you and email requiring response but advise you not to reply as it's "from an email address that isn't monitored".
Helpfully they give you another email address to reply to on the form that you must print out fill in sign & scan, but this address is so much like the one the original message originated from that your email package defaults to the one you shouldn't use and consequently they don't process your form.

Currently trying to sort out an auto enrollment opt out fiasco.

The Microsoft Teams advert was getting right on my ****, thankfully they’ve recently changed it to a new one. Pretty much every advert at the moment seems to be shot with faux Zoom style videos which is highly irritating.

Yeah - every business trying to act like they are the answer to Covid-19. Or the worst one I saw, Uber, trying to put their drivers forward as heroes, with NHS workers thanking them for driving them home.

Dominic cummins. I’m an optician with my own business. So now he’s let the cat out of the bag that you don’t need to have your eyes tested as we’ve always conned you into believing (just take a wee tootle in the car), I’m stuffed:(

One thing I absolutely despise at the moment is LinkedIn. It was already getting worse then Facebook but this pandemic has made it utterly unbearable. It actually depresses me to go on it.

Why bother then? It’s not compulsory. If you don’t like a website/social media platform, just don’t use it.

    Problem solved.

I guess... I’m inclined to think that if someone wants to contact you that much, that’s probably not the only (or best) method to use.

I suppose you might want to look someone up on the odd occasion.

Tik Tok, what is it being shoved down our throats from every angle? You can’t escape their adverts on just about every platform.

It’s just people videoing themselves isn’t it? Don’t we already have enough of those platforms to be getting on with already?

    - Oh my friend it’s so much more than people just videoing themselves!

    - You’ve got people miming along to famous bits of films.... not even acting them out, just miming.

    - Synchronised dancing. No original choreography or anything just the same song with a basic 10 second dance routine badly copied and pasted by people in their gardens.

    - Dogs. Loads of dogs.

    - People behaving like animals, intended to be a cutting satire on their pets. ‘What if humans behaved like dogs?’ Cut to a man stood at his gate screaming ‘go away!’ At passers by.

    - People ‘finding’ and rescuing lost dogs tied up outside shops, looking sad. (They’re always blatantly the film maker’s dog)

    - Convoluted ‘where is my dog/kid? I bet they’re doing something hilarious when I find them’ videos. These are the best because they’re basically just an excuse to film a first person tour of the camerapersons massive mansion.

    - Exploiting the nonsensical things small children do, presumably because it helps the parent feel like they’ve got a personality. Nevermind if that child can’t consent to having their face and thoughts beamed across the world, gotta get those likes!

I think Charlie Brooker jokingly predicted that one day, celebrities would be paid by a television company to spread their arsecheeks apart and have a camera pointed at it for the audience’s viewing pleasure. I feel like tiktok is the social media version of that. My partner watches it endlessly, thankfully I’ve silently conveyed the message that I really don’t care so stop showing me your phone. I gave her the chance to redeem some honour by asking if she needs to watch it to keep up with the trends, seeing as she works with kids like. But no, it’s just another thing to mindlessly scroll through. These kids ought to start posting on Internet forums, something old fashioned and wholesome!

Thanks for the summary, so it’s actually a lot worse that I thought then.

I assumed it was an attempt at another emperors new clothes situation and that despite them probably losing millions a week, Facebook would be buying them up imminently for 8 Trillion dollars. But no, it looks like they’re already owned by a big Chinese company.

On the subject of mindlessly scrolling, I got rid of Facebook a while ago and Instagram went this week. I found I was doing exactly that. Mindlessly scrolling without even realising. It had become an unconscious action but I haven’t missed it since deleting it.

This article made me delete Facebook:

Wise if you feel it’s right for you. I deleted both of mine last year. I wouldn’t say I was addicted to either, but they added absolutely nothing to my life. Whether it was looking at pictures of an ex (we all do it) or going down a rabbit hole involving the latest social media witch hunt. It became like lifting up a slab and looking at all the grot and bugs squirming around under there. You’re not missing anything, if anything it encouraged me to contact friends directly and organise things to do face to face.

One thing that did really push me over the edge was two of my close mates having a kid a year and a half ago, the first couple in our friendship group to have a kid. I’m his godfather, he’s a wonderful little guy, my friends had a **** time before he was born... I can’t stand the way that they portray parenthood on social media though. It’s vomit inducingly tacky and saccharine, which it shouldn’t be because I know the backstory. I just think it brings out this side to people that’s so disingenuous, I’d rather not see it.

I still have to use it for the various ASD, disability rights/activities groups I'm a member of - I've binned all other (social) usage and feel much, much better for it partly for the disconnect between what I know friends'/peoples' lives are and what they project on SM. They're either 'closed' or 'secret' (one with a significant proto-Christian © Primo Levi membership) groups - admission by invite only. The level of inanity is pretty low (and they're still very effective means of sharing information/new and invaluable for some people to share quite harrowing stories/requests to a sympathetic, non-judgemental audience for support) but still get the "My friend's daughter's autism was cured using CBD/CBT/herbs/healing crystals/massage etc." which I always reply with a C&P from wiki (the posts are normally removed after this and I've received cautions and temporary loss of non-pre-approved posting privileges):

    Blinds.

Whichever way I want them to go they go the other way when I pull them. More than 50%. Way more. Even when I own the things and should be able to work out how they work.

    Dealing with hummus containers.

Ok hummus is lovely, but dealing with the container for recycling, especially if it’s well gone is rank.

Not a sufferer, but I hear it’s an unfortunate by-product of the cleaner air we’ve now got. Diesel particulates in particular would bind to the pollen and fall to the ground sooner.

I feel your pain. I didn't start suffering from this until my mid twenties. But get an injection from my Doctor now. Remarkable results I must add. My eyes do itch once people start cutting their grass so usually wear sunglasses to combat this with good success .

Mine is off the scale this year. Incapacitated by bursts of 10-20 sneezes multiple times a day with an unbearable itchy face. I take the benadryl with acrivastine in it which is the strongest according to the pharmacy. Poppin’ at least four of them a day.

My GP is a massive ****** and I hate going to see him. How does the injection work? Once a year or more often? I would genuinely rather cut off a limb than make an appointment and wait six months to see Dr. Poshington-****head and be given some sage advice like ‘shut your windows’ or ‘use a silk handkerchief so your nose doesn’t chap, chap.’ .... But I fear I may have to.

Strange - I've barely noticed the pollen this spring, and that's despite spending a lot more time in the garden whilst "working from home" and cycling most days. I've just used the one a day loratadine since early April and have just had the odd sneeze and spell of itchy eyes, much less (fewer?) than usual.

Been through all the heyfever meds.

Terfernadine as a kid - banned gives you **** rot or something but seemed to work OK for me.
Loretadine - bouts of dizzyness & disorientation and I actually passed out once smashing my head on a shower screen
Cetirizine - uncontrollable itching at night, inability to sleep, which made me more irritable during the day than usual.
Cinnarizine(prescription) to try and combat tinitus which made me sleep for 18 hours a day and didn't cure the tinitus. It also gave me hives on my nips which was fecking painful.

Benadryl I take as a reactionary med (Anticrivastine or something) I'll take as a last resort when I'm desperate, but that pretty much knocks me out as well.

I've just had my son's orthodontist on the 'phone offering an appointment (he should have the retainers replaced 12 weeks ago...) and been told that no guardians will be allowed in the surgery. When I pointed out he's ASD and that'll be no-no I was told that I would have to wear a, self-supplied, mask to accompany him. I pointed out that the only thing I had was an army respirator I was told "...that's not a problem..."
