I understand making fun of United maybe but not Ighalo. He's a brilliant man who always had nothing but 100% commitment to Watford. I hope he absolutely smashes it there and proves everyone wrong.
I’ve still got love for Iggy and wish him well. A dream move for him.....I just don’t want to hear Utd fans singing the Iggy song. I hope they can come up with something new......maybe a play on their favourite - He comes from Nigeria He’ll f***in murder ya
Utd have to play Brighton, Bournemouth and Villa. Iggy can show us he cares by helping Man Utd to nine points from those three.
Fair f*cks to Ighalo. That’s some move for him, and as others have said, he’s a more than decent bloke too. United have gone from Lukaku and Sanchez (who admittedly didn’t replicate his Arsenal form) to dropping their pants for Josh King and a loan for Ighalo. Something is absolutely rotten at that club.
And Hillsborough/burning Woodward in a bonfire too. No wonder Man U aren't happy with their fans. Do they sing anything positive and about their current players?
I'm really pleased for him to get to play for his childhood club but fear he's going to fall short of united fans expectations and its not going to be an enjoyable experience for him.
Iggy has a goalscoring switch. It switched on for us then off. It was the opposite for Nigeria he blanked a lot until after the world cup and now he's 3rd (I think) top goalscorer of all time for Nigeria. In China I think he took a few games to get going then scored regularly. He has the technique and physical attributes to score goals for United, it's just whether he can get in the zone mentally. What a career he's had though. Going from 3rd to 1st with Granada and 2nd to 1st with us. Became probably the richest Nigerian player in history in China and now playing for the club he supported as a kid. In my opinion no single player has had as big an impact for the club as Iggy. He kept us alive in the winter of the promotion season with his goals and without him we would most likely have been relegated under QSF. Good luck Iggy, gonna love seeing your name on that shirt!
I don’t think we were that prepared to spend £15m at all. We probably have one player per season that we set our mind on and will potentially be willing to pay what the selling club want for them, this season it was Saar. The rest of the time we are just half heartedly chancing our arm with little chance of the selling club accepting. Look at Rose last season, in hindsight there was zero chance of Spurs accepting our stupidly lowball offer, same with this Burnley player this season. I don’t think there was any danger of this alleged £15m being spent, unless one of the selling clubs temporarily took leave of their senses.
I never thought that a transfer not involving Watford either buying or selling during this window would be the most exciting deal for me! Really pleased for him and truly hope he makes a success of it.
Scoring goals can breed confidence whatever league you are in, but I wonder what sort of standard the Chinese Super League is? Almost every player in the Shanghai Shenhua squad is Chinese and the national team is rubbish.
Well done Iggy and welcome back to the Premier League. Nice chap and was on fire in the Champ and 1/2 of our first season back in the big time. Hope he does well and I hope Watford fans travelling to OT later on will show him some love for what he did for us. Just don't act like Young did and be a d!ck about it.
A switch suggests he has the ability to turn it on and off at will which he definitely doesn’t. PL history is littered with strikers like him, players who hit a purple patch of from which was nowhere near their actual level of ability and they quickly fell away into obscurity. Off the top of my head, who remembers papisse cisse? Scored worldy after worldy and then disappeared off the face of the earth. Who was that one who did the belly flops after he scored? Ighalos ‘form’ after his purple patch is much more indicative of his actual level. He literally couldn’t find a team mate from five yards, let alone the goal. It was like playing with 10 men and he was absolutely a lot worse than Andre Gray. You can’t judge anything on the Chinese league either, I doubt it’s even football league standard.
In fairness, Iggy has hit a bit of form recently playing for Nigeria in the African Cup of Nations, scoring against Cameroon, Algeria and Tunisia.
It's happened with 3 different teams. When he's on a roll he scores regularly. Obviously he can't control it or he'd be scoring all the time. I'm not saying he will score goals for United but I'm not writing him off either and I wish him the very best of luck. For me he's a watford legend.
He got a hamstring injury just after it and supposedly has been dreadful since (even by Shanghai's standards).
Even if it doesn't quite work out for him at MU he will be back in the prem and visible and some lower prem team next season will sign him up. Smashing guy. Good luck to him. Amazed MU signed him after that open goal miss against them at the Vic.
https://www.skysports.com/football/...ighalo-manchester-united-sign-striker-on-loan Bloke looks excellent sign him up. Seriously, pace, intelligence of the ball, knows where the target its. What surprised me more than anything is he manages to get an assist out of Jurado and Nyom as well.
If anyone hasn't seen Ighalos goal tonight it's well worth a watch, absolute stunner. Can be seen here: https://twitter.com/btsportfootball/status/1238170037980205056?s=19 Reminds me very much of the goal he scored against Boro in the championship I think it was!
He's made an excellent start for them - 4 goals in 320 minutes of football. I really didn't think he had it in him any more, but it's pleasing to see.
For a balanced counter weight argument, Iggy will always go on better than average scoring runs, that's his USP. Done it everywhere he's gone. Only issue is when it dries up it dries up quite badly.
Hilariously, when we were linked with a return for him, I thought it was a mistake (even if it were also extremely unlikely) but he's proven me wrong! I do remember watching him under Mazzari though and he was god awful. I can easily see Man Utd making a massive bid for him in the summer. Any idea what our sell on % would be?
