How you can prefer gray over peneranda is bizarre, we’ve not had the chance to see much of peneranda in a watford shirt, Peneranda was also voted u-19 player of the tournament at the u-19 WC. He’s been in the top 50 most promising of world youngsters. The boys obviously a talent think he had an injury so going on loan for game time was a good decision. Also Okaka that fella put a shift in not the most elegant on the field but he had a first touch held the ball up and scored a few goals. Let gray go to the championship for the remainder of the season, he’ll be at his level he may well bang some goals in and come back a better more confident player(I doubt this) or at the very least put himself in the shop window and improve his price. I was thinking the same. Damn we had some ***** around that time. I used to be in fits of laughter with my brother watching Steve Butler. The list goes on.
There is quite a list worse than Gray who let's not forget has scored goals in the Premier League. Look at the two guys who started up front at Palace in the first ever Pozzo game for starters
How is it bizarre? Penaranda has been overlooked by successive managers where ever he’s gone. Gracia didn’t fancy him in the squad, Malaga didn’t, Udinese didn’t, these crap Belgian team don’t. At this point, like Success, he’s trading off promise he had years ago. And no one is buying it anymore. Gray has scored some key goals for us. And made some assists. And seems like a popular member of the squad. Is he great? No. At times he’s not even good. But to claim Penaranda is a better option is strange because he has literally done nothing to prove that. Some fans seem to have an agenda against Gray which I find odd.
I wanted Gray to be a success. I defended him in the past was excited when he signed, Agree he’s not bad for our squad but he’s had his chance. Peneranda hasn’t. Let Gray go and give peneranda that chance off the bench. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Just because someone hasn't had a chance, it doesn't mean they deserve one. There's a reason they've not been picked. Otherwise I'm due a game.
He's been given the chance all last season and the beginning of this current one to stake a claim and failed to. He's not been deemed capable of worthy of a place in a lowly Belgian teams starting XI - I'm confused as to why he should suddenly be deserving of a chance when others are applying themselves to their careers more than him? He's very likely been told to go and prove himself in the Belgian league and is coming back with his tail between his legs having failed. He shouldn't be rewarded for it.
He was injured last season wasn’t he? And honestly I’ve not looked at what he’s been doing in Belgium. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well I think gray keeps getter no the chance cos he cost so much. So the club tells the incoming coach try and get this piece to work. I’d like to see peneranda on the bench before gray. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
There was certainly times when Gracia gave interviews and said he was fit but needed to learn to work harder for himself and the team. And the Belgian side have barely played him and even said they were negotiating with us to terminate his loan. I just can't see a single argument that says he is worthy of taking Gray's spot in the match day squad. Surely if you want to give it to anyone, it would be Joao Pedro?
Yes forgot about him. For sure unleash Pedro. Or even a youngster like Dalby/Cassidy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Devon White was utterly brilliant. I remember GT getting him to practice 1 yard tap ins during pre match warm up. And surely someone else recalls his mid pitch overhead kick attempt?
I saw him score against Bournemouth one hot August day. Connelly scored other goal. "Devon White White White"
That was our first match back in the third tier after relegation in 1996. Kenny Jackett’s first game as manager and we weren’t sure if we were going to walk the division. We didn’t.
On a fairly topical note, given our postponed tie tonight, I remember playing Oxford in a cup replay after previous attempts to play the game were thwarted by weather. Big Dev had a shocker of a game on a frozen white pitch - but somehow managed to score both goals. Was the last player off the pitch that day as he was soaking up some rare adulation!
I remember going to the opening game of 88-89 (v Brum?), family terrace etc, and Bamber got the winner. Whereas the other new fella, Wilkinson, didn’t get a sniff. Thought Bamber would be the one to fire us back into Div 1 but that was goal was all he had in his locker.... think he was gone by Xmas, replaced by Garry Thompson - another of our unprolific 90s strikers (think I saw him score on his debut (Boxing Day) with a diving header, and that proved to be his sole contribution in a Watford shirt) We’ve had some right dross at times...
I also was really impressed with Bamber that day, and not with Wilkinson who scored a lot of goals for us over the next few seasons, Bamber went at Xmas to Stoke and did quite well and then onto Blackpool where he is regarded as something of a hero!
That season was crazy. I’ve never seen a manager sign so many players and tin them within 3 months! Bamber, Thompson, Richardson, Redfearn, Rimmer, Holden all seemed to come and go in the blink of an eye.
I remember being lucky to win that day with Steve wrigley playing well. Then we beat WBA, Plymouth before losing to Ipswich and beating high flying Bradford. All went a bit downhill from there although it was the season of the Newcastle Mirandina cup marathon.
Looking back, Paul Wilkinson had a really strange career at Watford. Top scorer I think in each of his three seasons for us, but never really clicked with the fans and so is not fondly remembered in the way that, say, Danny Graham is after fewer appearances.
Didnt the floodliights fail and the game was postponed twice or something similar? I recall it being more than a postponement?
This is bringing back memories. One floodlight failure, one frozen pitch, and at the third attempt the game was played. I think that was what happened but I'm happy to be corrected.
