In fairness one of those recent thoughts was to start a thread called Svenska Flicker, so I'd probably climb down off that high horse if I were you...
I always thought Ben Gibson looked good for Middlesbrough but Dyche obviously thinks differently. Not even sure hes still at Burnley.
Based off TVOR’s suggestion I had a chat with a Leicester fan I know about any potential sleepers given Vardy dominance. Conclusion was negative but TVOR post stimulated debate. Not sure why you are digging him out.
Oh of course, because some people on here actually go down what is clearly the much simpler route of already doing research and regularly suggesting viable signings, some of which might have already met the criteria which you did the oh so brain-busting and onerous task of just speculating on.
Nigel’s expectations are very low. “If we did business, it won’t be substantial”. Players returning from injury will be like new signings and basically he thinks the players we’ve got are good enough. Music to Gino’s ears. https://www.watfordfc.com/teams/first-team/team-news-bournemouth-2
Most important transfer window for a long time. Cleverley and Welbeck are limited and highly prone to injury. Even if we just signed them it wouldn't be enough.
As above. Welbeck can't be trusted to stay fit. And Cleverley is a while off even by the clubs own admission. And even he is a big injury risk these days. The comments that getting injured players back will be like new signings is a bit strange - they mention Chalobah and Cathcart in that sentence....they've been available all season more or less. Same for Femenia. That being said, the damage was done defensively in the summer - near total neglect aside from a bang average Dawson. Our travails over the past few months meant we have made it likely very tough to attract good quality in this window and I suspect the club won't move for anything that is deemed average or not very good value. But the comments have a few interesting bits that can be take two ways - we won't do any 'substantial' business they say....but are a couple/few defenders at £10m or on loan substantial business these days to us? 'IF we do no business, we can still escape...' - he's not saying signings would hurt by any stretch. He's just not going to sell the players we currently have short. I don't really expect Pearson to say much different to what he has. He's not one to defer answers in press conferences to those above him...he'll just be honest. He's the coach and will work with what he has until he's given more - if asked behind closed doors, I'm sure he will be pragmatic about what we need. He's just not a chequebook manager who bleats about who he wants to sign next and moans about what he doesn't (or can't) have.
And I think it's going to pass us by. We've accumulated so much cr@p over the years and now we can't shift them to get new players in. How many games will Prodl, Holebas, Gomes and Zeegelaar play between now and the end of the season? The decision to not have clear out in the summer still blows my mind. We'd come off the back of one of our most successful seasons and we stood still. Now it looks like we'll be doing the same this month.
I think pearson will get a tune out of Prodl. He went from player of the season to absolute gash in the space of a couple of months. There must have been more to it than physical decline.
I think he has to say something like that. We’re in a relegation fight and we need everyone fighting. If he states that we need to sign players to improve, then that could easily affect the morale. Pearson has brought a feel good factor into the squad, most of the players want to play for him. They have brought into the vision and there is a real buzz in and around the camp. He won’t risk losing that just to please a few journalists ears, so they can spin it with a headline of “Watford squad not good enough for the fight - Pearson.” I could be totally wrong but that statement sounds like a cliche statement. He knows what he wants, and I would be surprised if we don’t sign at least 1 defender this window. Personally I think we will sign 2.
I'm sure we will sign a couple of players. It's the quality of those players that I'm not so sure about.
I think if we get a few players back from injury - Kiko, Janmaat and Hughes and suffer no more major injuries between now and the end of the window, I can see us not signing anyone. If we do dip into the market it will be to shore up any injuries. Not saying I agree with that as I think we need better quality in a few positions.
You may be right and that's what Pearson alluded to (I imagine we definitely are looking for a LB though), it worries me though as players like Janmaat, Prodl, Cleverly, Welbeck just seem permanently injured now. We can't rely on them, even if they do get 'fit' at some stage this month
I watched the Swansea Fulham match. He was so poor against Mitrovic. But hopefully he's learning. Looked like he really needs to build some body strength.
Mitrovic should not be in the championship and in the Premier League he was very much a handful. I would however leave Wilmot at Swansea for the rest of the season
No he should be in our squad 100%. Agreed Wilmot Should stay in the championship. He needs game time.
Baffled. We have 2 great wingers and Pereyra still here. Yet we have sub-standard defenders and yet it’s a back-up winger getting fans excited.
If Pussetto comes in, I can't see any more attacking reinforcements. I do worry about Deeney picking up an injury though - unless Welbeck gets fit and stays fit. Which doesn't seem likely, let's be honest. However, from the summer we're potentially going to have Pedro and Cucho challenging for the striker spot so I don't see us signing someone else permanently. People have mentioned a loan which seems like a good idea, but I haven't seen any rumours yet. We don't need CMs. We definitely seem to be after a LB. There doesn't seem to be any movement on a CB at the moment and I've got a feeling Gino's happy to let it slide for another window (again!). I would prefer for us to finally buy a quality CB and be done with it but I don't think it's going to happen. I don't think we'll sign a RB now but I hope we do in the summer, Janmaat can't be relied upon consistently any more so we are short. And I hope we pick up another 18 year old South American gem to keep the conveyor belt running!
He's on a 2-year loan with Osasuna, so won't be with next season even if we wanted him. This leads me to look at all the players we have out on loan. It's quite a list. Trying to work out who will ever get into our Premier League squad. Jerome Sinclair Pervis Estupinan Michael Folivi Matheus Santana Kingsley Fobi Williams Velásquez Jorge Segura Matheus Aias Luis Javier Suarez Juan Becerra Jaime Alvarado Marc Navarro Ben Wilmot Alex Jakubiak Juergen Elitim Ken Sema Cucho Hernandez Adalberto Penaranda Cameron Green Harry Hudson Dimitri Foulquier
