Well, I guess we’ll find out if we’re a better side without him or not then!

I wonder if the timing of this (routine?) op. was determined by Wellbeck now being fully up to speed.

Cue Gracia’s press conference at 5:30pm today saying Welbeck isn’t fit to start and Sarr is a few weeks away.

Or Welbeck comes in, we still play long ball which doesn’t suit him and we all label him **** by the end of September.

There's only one man who can fit in that shirt.

    Step forward, Stefano Okaka!

Ok - who bumped him off ?!

Good luck to Troy - not one who gets injured easily so must be serious.

Time for Gray and GD on Saturday to step up if Welbeck isn't fully fit.

To lose our leading scapegoat at this stage of the season is a major setback. Big opportunity for Hughes, Pereyra, Femenia, Dawson etc etc though

Absolutely not. I quite like 'Big Steff' and would probably have given him a run-out instead of Troy before now anyway. He's definitely better on the ball on his day but would mostly be a like-for-like replacement target man.

We now have a golden opportunity to try 'something completely different'. So let's try a very mobile front three of Sarr, Wellbeck and GD then. Middle three of Bobby, Doucs. and Capoue. Football is supposed to be fun! Hughes/Clevs. on the bench for Bobby (and maybe for GD if he's struggling) and Gray/Oukaka for Wellbeck if he can't do the ninety. Gray as a like-for-like, Oukaka if we need to revert to type with a big lump up front.

Subs. starting to be made by at least the 60th minute if needed.

Agree with this. Okaka is a bit unfairly maligned, although his whinging can be hard to watch sometimes. He's slower than deeney, but better at holding the ball up and more of a natural striker.

That line up would be torn apart down whichever side RP is played especially with GD’s aversion to defensive duties. We’d need another combative midfielder alongside Doucoure & Capoue. But the front 3 looks good

Gosh you lot are naive. At a loss reading some of these posts.

Fully expect Troy to line up against West Ham with crutches, being the pivotal target man in the 4-2-2-2.

Agreed. All we need now is the entire defence to require knee operations and we might stay up.

Dear Javi, 3 in the middle and 1 up top please. No hoof ball to Deeeney, blessing in disguise. Hope Troy makes a full recovery, he has no control over Javi's tactics, but he's just not cutting it in the PL.

  23. CleyHorn

Well it's not supposed to be defensive! It would require the full backs to play like full backs and the ball to mostly be up the other end anyway given the trickery of RP, GD and Sarr. Less full backs bombing forward, not needed so much, so probably Janmaat for Kiko then. Maybe Massina for Holebas too. Time to move on with a bit of youth. Couldn't care less about the CBs. All much of a muchness. Perm. two from five.

I understand your caution so maybe Hughes or Clevs. with RP on the bench then but I'd still prefer to start off on the front foot.

That leaves no room for Quina on the bench which is unfortunate. I like him but I'm not yet convinced he's the real deal just yet. If he was to be included in the seven (given that we need to include a keeper and two defenders) then, for me, one of Hughes or Clevs. could not feature at all.

When you consider the options that are now available up-front and in midfield then the phrase 'an embarrassment of riches' springs to mind.

I would prefer playing Pereya in the front three with a more defensive minded midfielder. Quina perhaps. It's certainly going to be interesting to see his line up and formation come Saturday.

This is great news. Watford line up with an exciting new line up, as we've been demanding for ages, get pasted and then we go back to the drawing board, realising that no matter how we shuffle this particular deck of terds, it's always gonna come up craps.

Had admitted himself on his Instagram that he hasn’t been fit to play this season but played because he ‘wanted to be the hero’.

Can’t decide if that’s admirable from the captain or foolish. Given the price Javi clearly puts on players being ready etc etc, I’m surprised.

Doesn’t help the stories that he’s ‘untouchable’ though and Gracia’s comments today aren’t good news for people who think he should be moved aside...

“We have always spoken about that, how important he is on the pitch and out of the pitch as well," said Gracia of his captain.

"He's special - his personality, his character, he's important for us, but what can we do now he's injured?

"We have other players waiting and I trust all of them. We are ready to compete without Troy. We'll miss him, we are waiting until he's back, but we have to be ready to compete against West Ham.”

Bloody hell. So an injured Troy is still picked above Gray, Success, Okaka and Peñaranda. They all may as well pack their bags now because that’s a damning indictment.

(Also quite funny that Deeney plays with an injury but no-one notices because he’s always that slow and immobile anyway.)

The downside to this of course is the alternative is a championship level striker, though I suppose it goes well with out championship defence

Apart from the 9 goals and 5 assists last season. I'm all for a change up top as I think it would encourage better football but comments like this are absolutely ridiculous. He was decent last season and was certainly missed when he was suspended. Be careful what you wish for
