Doh, this thread was just ahead of my one. Though I saw L'Equipe as being the source. Maybe Leventhal is just rehashing that. https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.c...-joined-watford-in-the-hunt-for-ismaila-sarr/ He's better than Sarr.
Sevilla had a €25m bid turned down last month and were speculated yesterday to have upped the bid to €30m. So likely the figures being talked about. 21 years old, 7 caps for Holland. Can play on both wings and is highly rated.
Classic Pozzo move to make us think they’re serious about making a big signing. We’ll get neither this genius, nor Sarr.
This is our back up option. Better player, IMO. We should have moved on from Sarr a long time ago. Nothing to do with the player, but Rennes just wanted more cash. Again, nothing wrong with that either, but it doesn't help us at all.
He's better than Sarr - but we're ending up with neither. This has been another classic Pozzo window by the looks of it - all talk. Absolutely criminal to not get Sarr done. There's no way he'd join us - this is literally an offer to create fake optimism amongst fans or scare Rennes.
All being said, I’d be concerned that he’d be another guy who comes here from the Dutch league and struggles, although given the sort of teams that have been linked with him in the past, perhaps he truly is a step above that league. I’d still prefer Sarr. Firstly, he looks to have the physical/technical tools (rapid pace and fairly consistent end-product in terms of goals and assists) to do well here. Secondly, I feel players coming from the French leagues tend to be more successful in England. If we’re not getting Sarr though, it’s good to see us apparently making an effort to bring in a top class winger/inside forward type player.
They are the new Bournemouth. Might be worth linking ourselves with some more mediocre players and see if the trend continues.
This would be an amazing signing. Linked with many of the ‘top’ clubs for a couple of years now. If he’s available for €30m and we can afford it, then I’d choose him over Sarr. Only concern is that the Dutch league is pants, so potentially a bigger risk than buying from the French league.
That could work in our favor regarding Sarr though. You’d imagine he’d be the next option if Zaha can’t be signed. If Zaha doesn’t leave CP, they aren’t likely to be in for Sarr, leaving the door open for us.
This is why we kept this under wraps until the final day. Now the cat's out of the bag, it's tipped off Everton.
Played well when given limited chances under QSF Deserves a second chance at the Vic Seems to have had a haircut
Reckon zaha deal will go to wire, time run out and stay at palace leaving us no time to get sarr or alternative over the line
https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/s...ijn-amid-crystal-palace-ismaila-sarr-reports/ "Sala is still thought to be the Hornets' main target, but they are now looking at possible alternatives in case a deal cannot be reached with the French side that suits their terms." According to the observer we are now looking at Sala. Worrying if true.
I actually want Bergwijn Yeah this is much pretty much my fear. Watford have been briefed late last night that Palace will pay the full Sarr fee should Zaha go (you know as prem clubs needing players generally do other than us). We've now panicked and made an unrealistic approach for Bergwijn (These kind of deals the terms need to be agreed days in advance to really have any chance of happening). I'm confident we'll end up with neither, mostly due to time.
Exactly what I’ve been saying. It’s very un-Gino like to have allowed Rennes to string us along and use us as a bargaining tool. Some fans seem to think there’s little Gino can do about it but he could have moved on and threatened to withdraw our offer. As good as Sarr is, I think Rennes would rather the money.
I have said this before about Muff, but I am beginning to think there might actually be some substance to other teams watching out for who we are showing interest in, then going in to try and gazump us. It is well reported that we are supposed to have one of the best scouting systems in the world, so it is not beyond the realms of fantasy that other clubs do actually monitor our transfer targets. At least it certainly seems that way by the amount of players we show an initial interest in that end up going to rival clubs that jump on our bandwagon, Muff being the prime suspect. However, there are others that suddenly show an interest in a player when we do, Everton for instance amongst others.
This is the actual one we meant to sign under QSF. Not the weedy geek with the greasy curtains we actually got
Agreed. With the window SLAMMING SHUT at 5pm rather than midnight, we and our Premier League status have run out of time.
By the way, can we all please marvel at my semi-prophetic prediction - just got the wrong team but I'm claiming it. For £50, I'll give you tomorrow's Euromillions numbers.
A dutch winger, what could possibly go wrong ? If this one now looks the most likely, let's pretend he's the better player and that we never really wanted Sarr who is now rubbish. Need to be very careful we don't end up signing Zaha, Sarr and this guy. Right wingers are not the same as RBs.
