Historically we haven't had many great central midfielders and Doucs is up there with the best of them. You could even make a case for him being our best ever central midfielder but he is nowhere near Barnes, Blissett, Johnstone, McClelland or Coton. One benefit of the cup final was the extent to which his weaknesses were exposed, making a big bid from a top club less likely.

I would add Kenny Jackett to that list. A very cultured midfielder in his day with a great engine. Always calm in possession. Not flashy so got little attention. Honourable mentions for Les 'bite your legs' Taylor, Jan Lohman and Wilf Rostron. Think GT saw midfielders as hod-carriers - vital but only a link between attack and defence. Box to Box was the only variety he recognised, with no holding/ screening role.

I think Wilf would probably be #6. He won player of the season in our runners up season and FA Cup final season. I don't really get why none of our current crop have been able to break into the 'pantheon'. If Iggy had continued his run for a couple more seasons he'dve been up there as would the Douc of 2 seasons ago. Maybe Joao Pedro is the one we've waited 30 years for. No pressure JP =)

    An admirable approach.

But try explaining it to Pozzo.

He’d sooner sport a wooden rattle & a packet of Capstan Full Strength.

Has the Everton lad Guyue (excuse spelling) joined psg? If so I expect the snake will be coming in for doucs, with the signing of the boy from city as a replacement. Hope I’m wrong just got a feeling

Would be the bottom of the downward spiral we've been on since the FA Cup Semi Final.

Wolves linked with quality players, we've signed the next Jerome Sinclair.

Everton already replaced him with Delph and it looks like the Guaye & Lookman money goes on Zaha.

Everton need a centre back to replace Zouma & a Striker.

Could be wrong but a move for Doucs ishould be way down the list for them.

Hope you’re right mate, remember that scouse trash have money to burn, not like they need to sell to spend big. I know it would take big bucks to get doucs and Zaha and the 50+m from the sales of Lookman and Gueye would help.

Not sure this lad will be another Sinclair. Citeh upset he’s gone and wanted him to stay. Supporters that have seen him also a bit dismayed. As for wolfs 2nd season syndrome with a brief distraction of Europe, and only linked so far with these players. Look who we’ve been linked with since being in premier league. There bound to get linked with a bit more quality as they have the Fosun billions with the super agent pulling the strings.

Apparently they are happy to let Guaye go because they have signed Delph and they’ll be about £20m up on the deal. Gives them money to chase Zaha with. Not sure Doucoure comes into in anymore for them.

Leventhal indicated the other day we’d want £60m-£70m for Doucoure which I think is too much - but is fair enough if Zaha and Maguire are quoted at £80m! I don’t think any club pays that for Doucoure.

It's all just pretend money to these owners. Unless something changes, these player prices will have doubled again in 3 years' time. Money means nothing to them.

They don't have that much money to burn unless they can get rid of the following players.
    - Yannick Bolasie
    - James McCarty
    - Kevin Mirallas
    - Mo Besic
    - Cuco Martina
    - Oumar Niasse
    - Cenk Tosun

Why does that matter? Moshiri is loaded. He can afford to have them sitting out collecting wages. FFP isn’t enforced strictly enough by they PL for it to be a worry.

Moshiri isn't that loaded and they've spunked a lot of cash on dross over the past few windows.

Can't see them happy to bring in more without offloading...

Anyways - seems they're targeting FSV Mainz defensive midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin to replace Idrissa Guaye.

Net worth doesn't necessarily mean cash rich.

Obviously if he convinces his buddy Usmanov to get on board then that's a different story.

    Just caught up with this.

No chance Doucoure is in our thoughts. Cracking player, don't get me wrong, but we are looking for more of a Capoue than a Doucoure, if that makes any sense whatsoever.

Gueye deal is done, will be official as soon as we've agreed terms on the replacement. Gueye is 30 soon and we are making a big profit on the accounts for him. Don't begrudge him this move at all. Wanted to go in January, we refused to let him go and he got his head down and played the best football of his time here. Shame to see him go as he is excellent but it makes sense.

Gbamin from Mainz appears to be the favourite to replace him as things stand.

It's too late in the day for any of that nonsense, but apparently Silva won't take no for an answer...….so we'll probably have to sell. We cannot have Marco pouting.

    http://www.insidefutbol.com/2019/08...iations-continue-player-ready-to-move/432228/

Apparently we've just turned down £32m, but in this current crazy market, Doucoure has to be worth at least £45-50m, especially to a club like Everton.

    Can't see it.

Silva has said today that he wants a winger, centre back (probably Zouma), a right back and a striker (Moise Kean about to sign). He then said something along the lines of "we'll see of we can do something else in the central area".

So perhaps we want another centre mid - possibility that Schneiderlin might be off at least on loan, but a late deal for Doucoure would be a huge fee in a position that isn't really a priority.

We've also been linked with Lemina from Southampton. I'd imagine that one is far more likely and far less expensive.

I’ll be so annoyed if we sell him to Everton. We don’t have the quality to replace him or time to recruit anyone else.

And the fee being reported is madness. With the state of inflation of late he has to be worth £50m at the very least. Up front. None of this £25m + extras if Everton win the league and he gets the Balon D’or.

I wouldn't worry mate. We will be spending £100m or so on a striker, winger and centre back in the coming week. There's no way we will be spending huge money on a centre mid too when we've already signed three of them this summer.

The 3 you’ve signed aren’t Doucouré, he’s known by slither and has prem experience. Money not really the problem for that greasy **** moshiri.
