Even less of a chance than Pavon I'd have thought, would cost a lot.

On the topic of Lille, French media are reporting we want €12m from them for Lukebakio. Make it up as they go along...

Yes, but he's got another cousin who's a tough-tackling left winger and is meant to be pretty decent - Comy.

However, I hear the brightest prospect in the family is Iby.

It’s rumoured that SARR wants more information about this bid. How should he go about getting it?

    A Lille white lie ?
Could it be that we are offering them Luke plus €12m for Sarr ?

Watford, Leicester, Inter Milan and Roma are the clubs linked to this player as well as a €50m transfer fee. None of those clubs have ever paid that sort of figure for a player. Three of the four mentioned have never spent over £33m on a player.

Whoever writes these reports really has to pass it through some sort of reality check. None of those clubs are likely to pay anywhere near €50m.

Reckon he had money on Sunderland scoring in the 5th minute. That is a genuinely baffling goal. I don't understand how the Keeper didn't stop it either. Loach-esque

They spoke to Sarr and he advised he wanted to runaway, runaway, runaway and save your life. Runaway, runaway, runaway if you want to survive.

    He's the Real McCoy apparently.

Supposedly had a bid turned down for him according to France Football on twitter (likely tosh).

Rennes: We don't want to lose him. We wouldn't entertain bids of less than €50m.
Gino: We want him, and I hear what you say. We will offer you 5 million english pounds.....plus another £5m performance related for 25+ goals in a season....plus 3% sell on clause.

But when you read that Newcastle are also in for him, you can be sure that €30m wasn't the number, unless it includes €20m for winning the Champions' League

It's not impossible if we have a couple of €40m plus sales ready to go ?

    Sell two players for €40m.

    Buy 6 for €5-8m each.

You cannot disregard what the people running the club say. It's clear by their actions and what they talk about in the fan's forums etc, how they go about their business.

Duxbury said recently that they would consider it a failure if they had to sign a player for £30m. Basically Watford do things differently. They pick up and coming talents that other clubs are not looking at, or they will sign a journeyman pro who can cut it at EPL level.

If Sarr is valued at €40m then he's beyond our grasp already.

We rely on getting very good young talents, such as Richarlison, Pedro, Cucho, Doucoure and a long list of others, and hope some will turn out to be good investments.

I have a lot of sympathy with the club, as it's getting harder and harder to operate in such a saturated market.

We will be left behind teams like Leicester, West Ham, Everton and even Newcastle once the new owner buys the club, and you can forget about the top six. All of these teams are prepared to spend big on a couple of signings. West Ham spent £100m last season, and will do so again this time around. Everton spent a fortune in the last 3 windows.

But, they are buying players who have already made a name for themselves. It's a trade off. When you spend big, the risk of the player being rubbish is reduced as you know the quality they have already. Watford cannot afford to do this.

I believe Watford's mantra is twofold when they are looking at players. Is he young with big potential or is he a player that can perform at Premier League level, when they are looking at older players. These are the two areas in which Watford can do business. Anything outside of that, then you can forget it.

I agree. However - IF the club has the means to spend that money, they may see it like a ‘Nicolas Pepe’ situation where they may feel a player like Sarr will almost certainly be worth over double what we pay. In which case, it would be a sound investment. We were linked with Pepe for a small-ish amount and now he’s being talked about going for megabucks.

We can’t disregard what Duxbury says - but we can’t always treat it as a red line either. The model is that we give a manager 2 years going by his statements in the past - well Gracia is approaching that and has the longest contract of any manager in the PL. Sometimes the thought process can deviate whilst largely staying the same.

I don’t think we could expect to sign players that cost this much. We certainly couldn’t afford more than one. But if the prospect of them being worth a fortune in a year or two is high, I don’t think it’s beyond us if we could afford it.

The key is to make a profit on transfers.
I didn't say £30m. I said €30m if we had a couple of sales of €40m+ lined up.
    They have to be pragmatic.
If we don't sell anyone this summer, I expect a couple of £5m buys, nothing more.
If we sell Doucs or RP or GD for £40m+, I'd expect a £15m buy and 2-3 £5m buys.
If we sell 2 players for £40m+ because the right offers come in or players want to leave, I'd expect they'd accept that the first 11 was significantly weakened and be happy to spend €30m on a signing like Sarr in addition to the usual young speculative signings while still making a healthy profit.
I don't think you can say they won't spend €30m (c£26m) on a player because it's not the Pozzo model.
    They are pragmatists.

My personal belief is they just would not spend that kind of money. The bar, as far as Watford are concerned, is £20m, and that would be on someone they would consider to be an exceptional young talent.

Let's not get bogged down on £30m or €30m. With exchange rates as they are the fees are similar. Both are significantly above £20m.

I cannot see a scenario where Watford would spend €30m on one player. If the figure is that high then it would imply the player is at the next level of development and is already a valued commodity. Once the "secret is out" then Watford are not interested.

Watford do want to sell for £40m plus, but that doesn't mean all that money can go towards another player. There is no value in that.

If you spend big, then the chances of making decent money diminishes. There is also a risk of the player not performing to that level, then you have a turkey on your hands.

Watford are doing the right thing. Signing lots of youngsters with talent in the hope that one or two develop into something special. The rest of the squad is bulked up with journeyman pro's who can do a job in the Premier League.

I expect someone like Adam Levethal will Tweet in the next couple of days saying that there is no truth in Watford's €30m bid for Ismaila Sarr.

We disagree, that's fine. I think they are more pragmatic that you believe and it will play out based on the scenarios I indicated. However I doubt they will make 2 big sales this summer therefore I doubt they will make one big £25m purchase. To make 2 big sales and not fill one of the gaps with a cheaper "semi-finished article" would be suicide.

Just sharing what I found browsing news now mate. But if we have something lined up for the sale of Pereyra he would be a great replacement and have re sale value even at £30m

Of course when the likes of West Ham and Everton splash big money on a supposed ‘ready-made’ player there’s also no guarantee that they will be successful in the Premier League.
