The goals we let in were inept and we were toothless up front. Maybe it's because I was sober but I would not describe that performance as brilliant.
No, I've seen all of the films. If you like puns and weak jokes then it's definitely average, if not it's ****.
Just got back. That was a totally predictable performance. We played so well in the first half. Totally dominated then second half let two of the softest goals I can remember this season. Such a shame because we deserved to be ahead by half time and it could have been so different. The same happened last season and we lost. We had an interesting drink after the match meeting Ron chopper Harris and ex hornet Gary Chivers. They were very sceptical of the current Chelsea and gave an insight into how different today’s game is compared to when they were playing. I was shocked as to how a Chelsea legend now makes a living from giving public question and answers sessions for cash. They shared the proceeds outside the pub in full view of everyone. He can’t stand the modern game and only attends Chelsea because he gets free corporate treatment and a nice little earner from the public speaking. Chivers was at Watford under Bassett poor guy. We then walked back to Earls Court, a group of Chelsea tourists one wearing a half an half scarf mistakingly entered the pub. They received so much abuse they only stayed 5minutes when the whole pub sang you might as well go home. Sorry, but you had to be there it was hilarious. Our away support is top drawer these days. A really flattering result for Chelsea yet again.
Reading the interviews on the Watford legends site a lot of the ex players tend to agree with Chopper ! And I think a lot of the Chelsea fans would not be sad to see Sarri go .. Mind you they might still come 3rd and win a trophy -not too shabby .
Yet again we play well but lose because although we create plenty of chances we fail to convert them into goals. I still believe what we primarily need is a more clinical finisher or two, then we will pick up points from those games that we often dominate but currently lose. Lets just hope we click on Cup Final Day and win that place in Europe, it would be so satisfying to put all the pundits noses out of joint and whatever team finishes 7th too. As we have already been written off by everyone from having any chance of qualifying for Europe, even though if we win the cup whoever finishes 7th will miss out on Europe and we will qualify instead. In the words of Kevin Keegan, I would just "LOVE IT" if that were to happen
Canceling my flight and binning my free corporate ticket for the final after that disgusting display of inept finishing and amateur defending against a team of spineless changers.
Preyera can go in the summer He has done very little this season. Yes he scored the odd worldie goal and I am pleased for him becoming a father, but apart from the odd good pass he is absent in so many games now. If we had the choice I would keep Decoure' instead and put Quina in his place. Natural position or not, he shows so much more effort than Preyera has done. He's a great footballer and has so much talent it's a shame we just never see it anymore. If he wants to move on, fine lets cash in. Just my two cents.
Don't think that finishing was the problem at all yesterday, certainly not in the first half when we were on top. We didn't actually create many really good chances, as it was the bit of play beforehand that let us down. Time and again we were approaching their box at speed after a nice bit of football and just needed to get the final ball right but fluffed it. If yesterday's first half taught us anything, it's that we need better passers of the ball when it really matters.
Most of the final balls were fluffed by pereyra and deulofeu, its not likely we'll ever sign better players than them! The worst thing that can happen now is that they both play well against West ham and we win. As their lack of consistency means it is certain they'd then have a stinker in the final.
Yep, agreed. Guess it's why they're with us rather than strolling around the latter stages of the Champions League. Decision making at crucial moments is the key thing for a top player. The moment when Deulofeu was running at them, had Deeney through the middle and Doucouré in acres of space out wide and he couldn't make his mind up and ended up firing the ball straight past Deeney summed it up really.
That’s a fair point but, if you have a finisher, his mentality is always to get a shot off. For someone like Kane when he gets the ball his first thought is “Can I score?”. Very often a quick shift of the ball then a shot at goal. So many of our players, Deulofeu, Pereyra, Doucouré and others make that extra move or pass and the chance of a shot is gone, despite all the team’s dominance and great approach play. The best we have is Gray but we all know he doesn’t have the ball control or composure to be a really good striker at Premier League level.
I had to Google this. Turns out he drove when he was totally ****ered and killed a girl. Sorry if their chants hurt his feelings, but also **** him.[/QUOTE] No jail sentence either after he paid 500k to victim’s family.
Would we have got more top 6 points if we'd played with a more defensive formation like man city away? YES almost certainly. It's too easy for the top 6 to beat our 4-2-2-2 system which is more like 4-2-1-3 in terms of impact as Bobby P does more going forward and little defensive work. The ideal way to play a superior team is counter attack with something resembling 4-5-1 and 9 players tracking back and defending for their lives. We've been trying to go toe to toe with superior teams and keep losing. At times we play pretty football but over the 90 mins the superior team wins. Our defenders have been amazingly good value but they are exposed in our system against the top teams. The biggest problem we have against the top teams is that only Isaac can play as a lone striker but he never scores. Andre carries a goal threat, stretches the opposition but isn't good at holding it up and Troy is lost as a lone striker. Man City know that with our formation and the gaps they r gonna find, they just need to turn up to win the cup. Wolves record against the top 6 is based on fast counter attacks. It would be suicidal to stick to our failed approach to top 6 games in the cup final.
He's scored some important goals this season for us where ball control and composure was key. And if we want a worldie striker we have to pay a worldie price.
I think you are right about going toe toe with the top 6. We will usually come up short doing this. Martinez had a game plan when Wigan beat City. Gracia will have to come up with one.
Yeah true, not sure what I expect from an 18 mill and a 60k+ salary a week striker. We should go for Mitrovic in the summer.
Exactly, Wigan's gameplan was to frustrate and withstand for 70-75 minutes and then attack more towards the end of the game. If we were 2-0 up after 60 minutes we'd still lose. Our only realistic hope is being in with a shout in the last 15-20 minutes and hope we can somehow get accross the line. Any attempt to play football in the first 70 minutes and itll just b a question of how many we concede. It's pointless showing the world we can play cute football off and on as city smash in 5. Better to play smart, defend like dogs in a defensive formation with the right personnel and then pray for a miracle at the death like Wigan. We r playing a vastly superior side.
If any if these posts are serious in saying we are garbage, i’m curious how you ever started supporting watford in the first place. Arguably our 3rd best season ever at moment, could yet be best and the anger still comes! What are you expecting?
There is not a hope in hell we'll play defensively like that. It'll be like you describe. We'll start brightly but not take our chances, an individual error will see us concede on 30 mins. They'll get another just before half time from a corner. Then they'll score again on 50 mins. Then it's just a matter of whether we lose 4, 5, 6 or even 7 nil.
Mitrovic would cost £20-£30million for 290 minutes per PL goal this season Dre cos £18 million for 190 minutes per PL goal this season. I'm not saying we shouldnt buy Mitrovic but Dre is clearly better value.
We are garbage compared to the top 6, as evidenced by our results against them this year. And we face the very best of them in the final. So to expect anything but a devastating defeat is absurd.
At least its not liverpool. It’s a maybe 1/10 chance, but its not out of the wuestion entirely. And having not gone to 84, as i was 6 and no family members wouldve taken me, i’d still go even if we were using our youth team.
I wonder if Wigan, Wimbledon and Southampton fans all thought that before they won the cup against more fancied opposition?
