It is very hard to pick this season for both. GOTS a series of beautiful volleys and some goals created by players simply walking through the opposition defence using witchcraft. I cant pick. POTS It was going to be Foster early on he saved us loads of points. Holebas has improved immeasurably. Doucoure holds the team together and appears to me the sine qua non. Deleufou for the sheer talent of his goals That being said if we score a goal at Wembley that beats City. That then becomes our GOTS and a good bet for POTS.
Actually what am I talking about. Any match winning goal at Wembley is not the GOTS it is the goal of the last 140 odd years. In this unlikely scenario this player should be knighted and no true born Watford fan should ever be allowed to say a bad word against them again even if its Gray. In fact especially if it is Gray thatll really stick in the craw of the inbreeds up the M1
The reel was way too rushed. All the goals would have been better showcased with a few extra seconds of build up. Why not show the whole Troy/Cardiff build up? Show Bobby running in from the touchline vs Udders. Where's Del #2 at Wembley? Btw, Kabs seems to be doing a jobshare with Emma these days.
POTS Cathcart (Very much biased, Capoue deserves it for me but Cathcart second) GOTS Deulofeu v Wolves
Pots Capoue most complete season player I've seen since King in 2006 Gots Pererya's no ball dribble goal
POTS Contenders.... Cathcart, Foster, Del Boy ( late entry), Deeney, Capoue. Perhaps Im being too biased towards recent events but Foster costing us a point at Arsenal and Cathcart 2 points v Soton, means they drop out. However they have both been excellent this season, unsung heroes but Im feeling flippant tonight, so goodbye. Del Boy has been superb recently but not all season. If he was to win us the game against Wolves and City then he would win, because game changers are very rare, but too early for that. Deeney....the first season where he ll score 10+ without relying on pens. His best season in Prem, but I dont see him as the future of the club, at least as a 1st team regular. But am happy that he ll be with us for a while That leaves Capoue. I would have happily sold him in the summer. Credit to Gracia for playing him in his best position, but most credit goes to Capoue himself. He has bossed pretty much every game, making big name players look very ordinary. Team players always pull on my heart strings more than glory boys, so Capoue POTS for me....by a long chalk.
GOS I think the occasion has to be considered when contemplating GOS. Im sure worldies are scored in training every week, but they count for nothing. I remember Ferguson , saying great players score goals when it really matters. When every other player has run out of ideas and energy , it takes the great, special players to take the responsbilty and say "I AM THE ONE" to change this game. That takes talent, but it also takes b@lls. Those goals count double for me, because a football game is a contest first and foremost. And the knockout punch is always the one that is remembered most. If you have a great goal combined with a tense moment within a game they have a multiplier effect on each other. Think of Michael Owens classic counter attack goal against Argentina in the WC, Deeneys against Leicester from a classic Zola counter attack. With that in mind, I have to go for Del Boys 1st against Wolves. One, for its arrogance and brilliance, but also without it we were out of that tie. That goal made Wolves nervous and gave our fans and players the hope, inspiration and passion to believe. The rest is history.
Javi is our Man of the Season. He is the difference between the previous Ok & this incredible, stellar season we’re are being spoilt with. It may well not be as easy next year so all the more reason to recognise Javi now.
Sh1t I forgot Holebas. Ive been singing his praises for 3 years now, against the whole tide of forum hatred. Thanks for reminding me, I love Holebas. Apart from his occasional brain fart moment, he has been brilliant for us. Id say this, he s probably not the winner of this years POTS but if you had POTLTS ( Player of lats three seasons) Holebas would win it hands down.
Agreed. But we re voting on player of the season, and of all the games Ive seen hes not played at all. Hes been incredible. The way hes got ordinary players performing ( Deeney , Capoue) or mavericks becoming consistent ( Del Boy)
Jose cares. Extraordinary how much he cares for a small team he joined at age 30 having come from an Italian big club. Because he cares, all the others care too.
Who’s name is on the terraces? The fans know. They’re chanting Javi’s name more than any of the players’.
POTS - Holebas. Capoue not far off but the fact that Holebas in the cup semi basically took control of our comeback and drove us on won the day. We play better with him in the team. He should really be vice captain. Tuesday wouldn't have happened with Jose at the wheel. GOTS - Deulofeu at Wembley. Probably the best Watford goal of all time. Anyone says differently is entitled to their opinion even if it is wrong.
Yes agreed. He has done a remarkable job. 7th-10th with pretty much the same squad that was heading towards relegation when he joined, bar swapping GD for Richie and Foster for Gomes. If he could just add some silverware this season......
We really have scored a wonderful variety of excellent goals this season! I think Deulofeu cup SF shades it though. Trying to think through the whole season to separate Foster and Capoue for pos....I’ll go Foster.
We’ve scored some absolute belters this season. For pure technique and execution, Bobby’s on opening day takes some beating. An absolute beauty. That said, in terms of importance, Geri’s in the semi edges it for me, especially when taking into account the arrogance of the attempt, and ludicrous level of skill involved.
POTS = Capoue. What a 14-15 months he’s had. Never gives the ball away. GOTS = Delofeu. Came on as a sub and changed the game with a shot that wasn’t even on, in a semi final, at Wemerlee. This doesn’t happen at Watford. IMHO club should call the awards ‘Graham Taylor Player of the Season’ and the ‘Elton John Goal of the Season’.
Motion to change the Doucoure song to Capoué*? *I know his name doesn't have the accent but we literally have a song about Javi Garcia ffs
Steered clear of this thread because it's just been too hard to call, but I think Capoue has edged it in recent weeks. As for GOTS, Geri 1st at Wembley every day of the week, even if just for the importance
Player Of The Season: Capoue. The best season of his career, finally proving he can play in the dark grey days of winter too and not just when the sun shines in August and May. Honourable mentions too for a reborn Holebas and Foster. Goal of the Season: Deeney at Wembley. Unlike many of our great goals this season that relied on instinct and were in the back of the net in a flash, Troy had at least 2 anxious minutes before he could take the penalty. One kick of a ball that either keeps your club’s dreams alive or sends you home as semi-final losers once again. In front of 80,000 spectators and millions more on tv. And he absolutely buried it. This season we are guaranteed our highest ever PL finish and possibly our best top division finish since 82-83. We’ve broken our PL goals record (previous best was 44 I think). Most wins. Most points. And we sit one game away from winning our first major trophy. But had Troy missed that penalty... that’s why it gets my vote.
Capoue. He appears to be feline and have six lung lobes rather than two human lungs. What is more he seems to be covering more ground than before. All in that unique 'ziggy baggy' style. GD at Wembley, the catalyst for an extraordinary Lazarus like comeback, minus the bandages of course!
POTS - Capoue. He has ran the show this season. GOTS - GD at Wembley. Closely followed by Pereyra away at Wolves.
