TD has been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month Award. https://www.watfordfc.com/teams/first-team/awards-deeney-nominated If we all vote 50 times each for him, he may stand a chance...
Only player outside top 6 to be nominated. Stats were good, even if for much of the matches he looked ineffective
I love him but I wish Deeney would stop "warning" the big boys only for us to get thumped 5-0 by Liverpool in a pathetic manner.
https://www.watfordfc.com/teams/first-team/femenia-deeney-legend Kiko singing Troy's praises....and rightly so. Do you think this is Deeney's best ever Watford season? 11 goals (and counting so far this season) and only two of those penalties, so that's 9 in open play. It's even more remarkable since the previous two seasons he let himself get too heavy and he really looked like he was on the way down. Not sure what happened to him in those seasons under Mazzarri and Silva, but if you airbrush those from history, he's been an incredible asset to the club. Looking at his record, you could say his first season he was just a back up option, scoring just 3 goals in 40 appearances (mostly from the bench) in 10-11. For me, I think the time when he really took off as a player was 1st November 2011. He was a sub and came on with only 15 minutes to go, but scored the only goal in a 1-0 win against Brighton. That's the time I thought we might have a player here. He ended up with 12 goals that season and went on to really hits the heights in the next three seasons scoring 20, 25 and 21 in our promotion year. Then it was a different ball game, trying to score in the Premier League. There's no doubt he found that a lot tougher, and had to rely on penalties to really keep his tally ticking over, but that first season he ended up with 15 goals, which is quite an impressive achievement. Although 7 were converted penalties, that's still 8 in open play. Then he did have a couple of bad years, still getting 10 in 16-17, but last season he only scored 6 including 7 matches suspended for red card offences. That must have been his personal low. However, with Deeney he always seems to bounce back. He thrives on adversity and proving people wrong. Maybe he had to go through that to motivate himself this season. Make no bones about it, he's probably having his best, most influential season of his career. It's not always about scoring goals, but he's a real leader now. Ok, he regularly says too much at times, things he does in his personal life maybe are not what people want to read about, but when it comes to the club, he's always been a positive force. He's a winner, and having players like him, pulling in the right direction, is one of the major factors behind the season we are having right now. He galvanises the team. The players see a guy who will run through bricks walls for the side, and woe betide you if you do not follow suit. He's been at the club so long, that he's almost one of the fans, living the dream. Ok, I know he's a Brummie, but Watford have probably taken over his affections these days.
He will always be a brum fan, he'll never become a watford fan. Why would he? Tommy mooney - a much bigger hero - isn't a watford fan either. As someone who played to a considerably high standard, I can assure you I never switched allegiances. Admittedly I never quite reached legend status...
I'm sure he'll prove his affection for Birmingham City by leaving us for them before his career here is done.
You must have missed the bit where I said I never achieved legend status. I still have a Pritchett poster on my bedroom wall.
Ah OK. Peter Coffill then. Loved the way Pritchett took his pens. None of this Deeney/Bolton blast and hope nonsense.
One of the TV commentators described Troy as as much of a Watford fan as a Watford player. And since it's at Watford where he has won the respect he craves, I can believe it. I wonder if Watford would be where we are if he'd been sacked after he came out of prison, as many have demanded. He may not be a squeaky-clean role model, but he's a superb role model for the people who really need one.
Reports of Troy getting a called up by England as a replacement for Kane.. Guess Southgate knows he'll turn up and not cry off with injury like some others did in the last squad.
It might be nice, but I can't see it. He couldn't switch off from being a leader, and that would piss off people who've won things or reached World Cup semi-finals. Danger that he'd be disruptive
The truth being, as always, he'd not stand for the pricks in the England dressing room's behaviour and therefore wouldn't be liked. The good news about all of this is that there's zero reports of him getting an England call-up. I'm happy about this as he, as always, is too good for them.
Must have mis-heard them on Talksport quoting the Sun story then... TBF I couldn't find it either when using Google!
anyone got that picure of troy dressed up like he's in the film Troy anywhere? It's for some goading of opposition fans I'm planning. Ta
