I just bought a year old 17" Acer Chromebook (4GB) for £50. I really just wanted a basic Windows laptop. Did I just waste my money or can this thing still come through?
Chromebook is fine if you don't mind keeping files on the cloud. If you've escaped the constant Windows updates you're on to a winner IMO.
I can't tell what the CPU is, the keyboard doesn't work and there's no stickers suggesting anything. 4GB RAM is pitiful I know, but the price I paid it's fine. It's not Windows nor Android so what does it do...or can it be either of those?
Chrome OS is decent if 90% of the time you're web browsing and maybe doing the odd bit of simple work. It's a pretty lightweight streamlined operating system so 4Gb ram is far more useful on it than 4Gb on a Windows machine. Personally I prefer to own copies of software and for security store and backup my own files. If the internet goes down you're not screwed. That combined with my liking to tailor a computer the way I want and being a tight ass means it's Windows for me. As an aside anyone remember the last alternative to Windows, OS2?
Yes we have already acknowleged at length Chrome, and Google generally are as sexy and as useful as my late great grandmother's knickers. I just want to know if my laptop will work, well as a laptop?
Well if the keyboard doesn't work I'd suggest no. If you can get that working then the answer is maybe, but really depends on what you want to do with it. If it's posting on here and accessing youfacetogram then yep it'll be fine.
If that's the case you're well sorted, visit porn sites and just go right ahead and mess on the screen
All jokes aside, I know I can browse all I like. Even this God forsaken site. BUT, I can't download Word and I can't download Candy Crush.
