I'm on my 3rd copy of 'Fat of the Land': my vinyl LP wore out (after repeated plays of tracks 1&2 side one on an ex-girlfiends 'record player'), my CD copy became unplayable after a mere 5 years and I've on an ALAC version on my ipod.
The Prodigy were the soundtrack to my formative years and I've only just recently purchased their last album which in my opinion is a return to the quality of their original work. Seemed like he had some troubles which is sad but I guess that is pretty common for the creative types.
Saw them live in Manchester in the late 90s - amazing live act, putting almost every other band to shame in terms of energy and captivating performances. Not many bands, if any, had such a wide ranging fan base. Even die hard metallers of the most elitist sort had time for them. They were also the first international band to play in Serbia after the dust was starting to settle after Yugoslavia imploded (in 1995) and were the soundtrack used by those who rose up to kick out Milosevic. A fitting epitaph for Keith.
I saw The Prodigy live at the MK Bowl a few years ago, although they're nothing like my usual taste in music that was easily the best concert/gig I've ever been to. You don't just hear them, you feel everything vibrating around you! Keith will be missed, but his influence on music will live on for a long time yet.
Sad day, Liam Howlett said on Insta that he took his own life, I hope Keith finds peace in whatever dimension he is in.
Gutted. Think I saw them 5 times, the first in mid 90s, MK bowl show was immense and seen them twice in recent years at Ally Pally, the last in November. He knew how to kick a crowd up, some of my best times have been listening to them. I learnt the running man as a youth thanks to Mr. Flint and Out of Space, still my only dance move nearly 20 odd years later! To think he scared all those mummy and daddies with his dancing with Firestarter on Top of the Pops, legend.
God knows how I survived the Prodigy live onslaught at Glastonbury in '97! A sad loss indeed, unfortunately matched last week by the death of Mark Hollis of Talk Talk, whose Spirit Of Eden album is the most beautiful and moving LP made imo. Two opposites in the spectrum of musical styles but equally important in terms of influence. www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmHDhAohJlQ www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCZnXg0vNs0
I have seen them from Muff to Serbia, and at my age the best live acts I’ve ever seen were Oasis, Arcade Fire, Manu Chao, and the big one was the Prodigy. Smaller bands like hadoukin can whip up a crowd and create chaos, but prodigy are a girlfriend breaking, crowd surging maelstrom of pure venom. Keith was the difference between The Prodigy and Calvin Harris. I hope Liam carries on, but it’ll never be the same again. Keith you are a legend now, but I’m pissed off.
I think everybody who walked away from a prodigy set at a festival had a sense of ‘I made it’. Nothing else like it
Sorry I know I’m spamming a bit but a little anecdote. Maybe 7 or 8 years ago they played in the aforementioned Serbia. Exit Festival. The set was Prodigy with pendulum as a cool down. the whole festival is set within a 300yo fortress in a town called Novi Sad. We were staying in a local woman’s apartment. Crawled out the next morning and saw the local news. They were pushing bricks back into those ancient walls as the sheer volume had displaced them. What a night..
What's with all this Prodigy bull crap? This is a thread about Take That... A particular favourite of mine together with Britain's greatest ever comedian:
They are adored in Serbia, especially after they went there in 1995 when no one else would. His death was front page news over there. My Summer holiday this year is a road trip from Belgrade to Skopje via Kragujevac and Ni* and I plan on a fair bit of the Prodigy for the drives. The kids are going to love it.
The Yanks are welcome to him. Heard a couple of stories about Cordon that suggest he's a fairly unpleasant individual off camera.
Knebworth. They were so good supporting its no wonder Oasis seemed lacklustre in comparison. I saw them live a few times. Never less than amazing. I also used to work with Maxim's auntie. All 4 of them were so down to Earth. They sent me some signed stuff years ago when I broke my foot. It turned out one was an artist proof painting by a street artist worth a fair bit. Fully signed and framed too. Such a sad end.
James Blunt had some kind words to say “At the Q Awards years ago, when @NoelGallagher was saying he was leaving Ibiza because I’d moved there, and @DamonAlbarn refused to be in the same picture as me, and @PaulWellerHQ was saying he’d rather eat his own s*** than work with me, Keith Flint came over, gave me a hug, and said how thrilled he was for my success.” If anyone does Tw@tter James blunt is actually a very funny bloke.
Loved the Prodigy backing track to the FA Cup goals montage on the big screens before the match yesterday!
