When we first bade farewell to lil Rich, there were those on here predicting that we would use the windfall to bring in both a first choice striker and an improved centre back with the cash, as well as perhaps another promising option in his position, and that was not unreasonable. Most of the discourse around that centred on whether or not we would actually sign both, or if it would in fact be used just for a striker, or just for a centre back. Instead, we got: absolutely ***** all. Brilliant. Not even a Richy replacement, so we're lighter than we were beforehand.
I follow Scottish football closely and one player that I have been very impressed with is Scott McKenna from Aberdeen. He is a 22 Year old Centre Back and has become a regular in The Scotland Squad. I have no idea of how much he would cost but I don't imagine it will be too out of our reach.
Expecting bids .. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/sport/amp/football/46600545 3.5 million or more it seems asked for .
I reckon he is one of these that has just lost his way. He has real talent, I think. At £9m I reckon we should buy him. I'd think he would do well with us.
They won't sell him for anywhere near that - Aston Villa had a £7m bid for him turned down in the summer window as it wasn't high enough. He's on a long-term contract that expires in 2023, and Aberdeen don't want to lose him - but know that they will sometime soon. I've watched him 'in the flesh' a few times this season and would agree that he is certainly worth a punt - I think he would adjust to the higher standard quickly as well.
I agree with the bearded Eurovision winner. A bit of special Javi loving could bring back his confidence and turn him back into a top striker. We could get him for 9m and sell Gray for 10 to 12m.
He tore us to pieces when Southampton beat us 4-3 the other year. The greatest centre forward display at the Vic in many years, as voted by those ITK. There is not one single reason for us not to be bidding for him this window. Not one. I've even grown to love his plug from the beano looks.
Once had a hit with Aberdeen (Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair) so it’s a ‘yes’ from me. I think.
I think he is worth a punt at that price, I know he has not been prolific of late but I still think he is a better finisher than our options. None of Southamptons current strikers can score so maybe the underlying issue is their midfield players creating chances. After having a quick look on the Southampton fans forum it seems a popular belief that Gabbiadini is being mis-managed and that he is isolated up front and can't play as a loan striker.
Jesus Christ. I’m all for buying a CB but one from Aberdeen who has ‘just broken into the Scottish team’....fair enough for less than £1m-£2m. Any more than that is mental. We need someone who is an instant starter. This guy is not that. We are beyond Don Cowie signings. People saying £9m?! I’d rather put that towards someone better in the summer or try and figure it into a deal for Mangala.
I get what you’re saying, but I’ve no real issue with us taking a bit of a punt and hoping we pull out a Harry Maguire or a John Stones from the lower leagues. Though it looked as though Wilmot might be that guy, and he’s apparently not even considered a CB at this current time. That said, it’s clear that we have a pressing need for somebody that can come in and make an instant impact as a commanding CB, preferably with their best years ahead of them. So yeah, I’m with you. Take a punt if you want, but there’s no way it should come at the expense of proven quality in that position.
A centre-back scoring goals like this?... Sold! Do you know enough about him to say for sure that he's more of a Cowie than perhaps, say, a van Dijk or Andy Robertson?! Mangala would be good I agree, but I'd be surprised if the Pozzos would stretch to his likely wages.
He's certainly more of a van Dijk than a Mariappa/Britos/Kabasele/Prodl. Chatting to a friend who's a Dons fan night, I asked him what he thought would be a fair transfer fee - and got the reply £20m. I certainly wouldn't go that far, but wouldn't be surprised if he was sold for around £10/£12m.
Heres a suggestion for you, what about that striker at Brentford: - NEAL MAUPAY Netted 16 so far this season, maybe he could make the step up?
Not a fact that I can find anywhere. Source? There are plenty who cost seven figures and a few who even cost eight figures.
Being serious, Celtic have one (maybe 2) players that would be around that figure. But that’s it. My line about no player being worth seven figures was a joke but the standard of that league is so poor that there can’t be many players up there outside of Celtic who are worth over £1m and that’s fairly clear I’d say. It’s League One Standard... As it goes, I’ve heard of McKenna and of course there’s always the chance of a gem playing outside of the Old Firm - but Aberdeen turned down over £7m from Villa for him? So how much would they want? To me, the risk of spending over that for a very unproven player at any kind of respectable level is not worth it.
