I've just watched the game back. I lip read Doucoure's comment afterwards. "Always the same" he says.

Jamie Carragher is a complete c****, but we all know that. I just can't stand him or his comments. He only sees it one way, just like the ref.

Kabasele was fouled, which lead the last minute goal, but was silly to put his hands up. He knew how the referee was seeing the match. You have to be smart. Kevin Friend was happy to give everything Everton's way. You cannot run the risk of raising your arms. The same for the penalty. Incredibly soft, and had that been the other way around, it would never have been given in a million years. But, when a ref is firmly on the side of one team, then you cannot be clumsy like that. It's stupid play. Kabasele is not learning. Referee's are happy to penalise him, so he has to stop doing it. He's not being smart.

I read it differently. He seemed to be mouthing "HB1 is right. These refs are crooks".
The Kabasele challenge for the penalty was simply dreadful. Awful. What was he thinking ? You won't see a better video representation of the word "impetuous" .

For once, I agree with much of what you say as regards the officiating. I cannot agree their penalty was soft though. It perhaps looks that way because there was very little danger of Mina doing anything...but Kabasele just goes through him recklessly. No excuse....apart from the fact Mina should not have been on the pitch. Kabasele is just so naturally clumsy that he needs to work on making it look 'cuter'. I think he's beyond ridding himself of these mistakes so needs to work on making them far less obvious.

He simply steamrollered through him. 100% penalty.

Deeney comes in for a lot of stick, but I think we play better when he is on the pitch I think he scares a fair few of the opposition and gets the team and crowd going, problem is he just doesn’t have the pace. I can’t help feeling if he could make the switch to defence he could still play a vital role for Watford

Do players change position as they get older , would Deeney be able to Do a job for us further back ?

I'm not saying it wasn't a penalty, but I know without a shadow of a doubt, had it been the other way around we'd never have been given it. This is what I find so frustrating. We are not being treated fairly and it's now a lot of officials who are doing it.

Next season we will have VAR, so things should massively improve for us.

That offside Success was flagged for was so marginal. They didn't analyse it much but I've seen it from a couple of angles. Admittedly neither were conclusive but it looked like Success was onside, and level in the very worst case. He was clean through. He beat Mina easily but would still have had to slot it past Pickford. It was still a great chance denied.

Mina took out Success on the edge of the box right on half time. It looked like he tried to stamp on his foot. Capoue got a 3 match ban for less than that!! We don't even get a free kick. It was a similar position from where Everton scored from, but we are denied the opportunity. Mina would probably have been given a second yellow as well, as it was an intentional stamp.

To be honest given the amount he tracks back I'm starting to wonder this myself. He can still run up top for set pieces to add a bit of presence.

That's a good shout. Mooney changed from centre back to centre forward. We played him in defence at the start of his Watford career. Luther went from striker to midfielder in his later years. I think Deeney would make a good centre half.

Or we could just do what we've needed to do for the past two years and adequately invest in centre-backs? Crazy idea I know.

    Am I being whooshed here?

Mooney started as a striker, then went into defence then back as a striker. Marcus Gayle started as a striker under Vialli then went to centre back under Lewington.

We should put Kabasele up front as some sort of Paolo Wanchope 'unpredictable' type.

    Was just trying remember Gayle.

Troy & Mariappa would make pleasing pairing at centre half. Like best mates in a school team. These days, the centre backs rarely come from the same continent.

A lot of Kabasele’s problems are rooted in the fact he’s a striker converted to CB, hence the tendency for poor decisions. Not sure anyone would find it easy changing to CB in the Prem at Troy’s age.

Must win game Saturday against Cardiff. My team would be Foster, Kiko, Mapps, Carthorse, Masina, Chalobah, Doucs, Quina, Del Boy, Pereyra and Deeney. Subs Gomes, Wilmot, Success, Holly and hopefully Cleverley, Hughes and Penaranda.

I agree. It is a game we have to win. Ok, we're not relegated if we lose or draw, however, our recent bad run has to be put to bed. A lot of our recent games were tough, and results have reflected this. On the whole, performances have been good though.

Now we've got a run of matches, where we should pick up points and we HAVE TO take advantage of this. Our last 12 games have seen us win just 2 and pick up only 9 points. We are much better than that, but have to go out there and prove it. We cannot afford to lose to those sides below us in the table.....well not at this particular moment of the season anyway.

Score a hat-trick, a few goal line clearances, some last ditch tackles/blocks that prevent the opposition from scoring, those sort of things.

I’m hoping that he’s performance yesterday will really kick start his season. You just know that Gracia, Deeney and Holebas had a word.

Holebas yes, Gracia and Deeney unlikely. Mind you, when it comes to mindless stupid defending, Kabasele would only have to show Holebas last seasons DVD.

Luther went to midfielder only for about a season I think when we bought Poskett and we couldn't fit both upfront. He very quickly went back to striker. Actually he also played there a few games at the start of the post-FA cup season until we sold Mo Jo.
Mooney only played CB mid WFC career for one season in the third tier plus the start of the following season. He joined us as striker from Southend in a swap with Keith Dublin if my memory serves me correctly ?
