Imagine this will need a thread of it's own. It appears the club announced this evening they're hoping to bring in a new badge ahead of the 20/21 season, "This is to aid the global growth of the club and to align the club with the nickname 'The Hornets'" I'm open to change of course. What are everybody's thoughts?
Already put this in the other thread but I am going to ensure that this one is selected. I will go to court with Bassini as my lawyer if I have to. P.S I'm unable to read any negativity when it comes down to the hard work i've put myself through to design the best possible badge with the resources I have available
I like our current badge. Distinctive. Every rebranded badge I can remember is far worse. Chelsea. QPR. Leeds. Brentford. Sheff Weds. Man City.
It's not as if the current badge has been around for that long and as someone who remembers the 'Angry Hornet', I'd welcome a return via a modern version. This conceptual rebranding from two years ago is worth looking at, as is the post by Smudger (I think) which showed the process Wolves went through recently. Sadly I can't remember where that particular post is though! https://www.behance.net/gallery/35231523/Watford-FC-Rebrand-Concept
The latest Junoir Hornet mailshot promoting the sticker album, did not feature the current badge but repeatedly used the hornet from the back of the latest shirt. I think someone else also pointed out the similarity between that the sixties/seventies badge and this shirt logo.
I find the whole 'global recognition/brand synergy' argument quite strange, because we're never going to attract anywhere near the kind of overseas interest or merchandise sales to justify that as a concern. We're not literally The Watford Hornets, and it'll be hard to incorporate one without it looking a bit stupid, as far as I can envisage.
We are a £120m a year club, in the most popular sport in the world, who are seen all over the world every week on TV and our global recognition/brand energy is only limited by defeatist thinking (in my view). I'm all for a change, and I really liked the Angry Hornet badge, and sometimes, the legs make it appear to move. Quite impressive.
I like the idea. It's a better identity than a hart. I could never corelate the nickname with the badge. It will cost a lot of money though. It's not just shirts, it's all the branding. Everywhere you look in the stadium and training ground has the club badge on it. All that will need changing, so like any rebranding of a company, it will be quite expensive to change identity.
After seeing it mentioned in Chumlax's post, I deeply considered the same question and came to the conclusion that Chumlax answer it. He deserves to, as he invented it.
No. The only thing I could even slightly consider accepting would be simply swapping the hart out for a hornet. I like our badge, it's already distinctive and recognisable and doesn't need to change. I genuinely think it's one of the better ones in football.
A prima facie case of copying another chap’s work but let’s concentrate instead on the graver issue of the exotic marketing wordplay. Chumlax?
I honestly think it wouldn’t look too bad if the hornet that’s at the nape of the neck of the current home shirt was the logo. If it’s a complete redesign, history of recent other clubs attempts tells me that’s less is more. Can’t say I’m really bothered at all to be quite honest.
I somewhat get the thinking behind it and probably could accept swapping the moose for a hornet provided that's all is changed. The crest itself, design, shape, layout whatever is all perfectly well and good.
The current badge looks dumb and makes no sense Definitely better to have a hornet We have had loads of badges in our history, no reason to get all protective over this one
I like our current badge and it doesn’t need an update. The Hert is obviously the county symbol and it distinguishes us from other North of London clubs. As a homage to our greatest ever manager perhaps find a way to incorporate the great man’s legacy into the design.
To depict the anti-Watford attitude of the Premeeer League a representation of a ref sending of a TWO Watford players would be apt. Change the name to The Watford Red Cards. We can have a red card mascot.
