Good to see that our feeder club are doing so well and getting the guys used to the feel of wearing the yellow and black. Can't wait to see these loans come to an end in January and Sancho laying them on for Alcacer, Talisca and Cucho.
BBC website says he's signing a new contract with the Germans. Little do they know. BBC are becoming more like HITC every day.
Most I'm sure but you do believe we never fail to buy someone we try to buy ? There was a lot of noise about this one.
If we wanted him, we'd have got him. Gino clearly and cleverly realised he was scoring all the wrong type of goals for us
Another goal tonight with a header literally that neither of our strikers would be capable of. Against PL defenders too. I like that our club is soundly run. But we should have paid what it took to get him in the summer. Edit: Just seen the stat that his last 10 shots at goal....10 goals. You have to believe we'd have buried Arsenal and Fulham at the very least if we'd have got him.
What if it wasn't about money and he just wanted to go to a big European club that played in the Champions League in front of 80,000 people, would challenge for trophies and keep him in the spotlight for his national team ambitions?
Would he have come? He may have heard that Watford is just south of Luton and a long way from Bournemouth
Say we could have got him, what would the total cost have been? Maybe £5m per year in wages, similar loan fee? So maybe £20m over two years plus a fee to buy at the end of maybe another £20m? If there was competition for his signature then this would go up, maybe £50m with another three years to pay wages. This must be right at our limit. I suspect we were interested, but only if Barcelona couldn’t shift him and needed to do a deal. Tell me if the maths is well out.
The rumour that I've heard a few times is that we agreed to cover his wages (80k supposedly) for the duration of a 2 year loan and then a compulsory purchase agreement (I don't know how they sort a contract out from there.) But the deal was pulled on deadline day when Alcacer supposedly said he now wanted an extra £40k over an above his Barcelona wage and we pulled out - perhaps because we couldn't afford that or perhaps because Gino didn't appreciate that type of negotiation tactic. It's also been said that the club were wary of Gray/Deeney's reaction at Alcacer coming in on such a wage when they had shown good form during pre-season. If the above is anywhere near true, it's hard to criticise the clubs actions. But there is still a sense that we have missed out.
Gino probably had a deal with his agent that we would pretend to be in for him and help drive the price up for Dortmund, giving us first dibs on a young prospect controlled by the same agent who currently plies his trade in Belgium’s top tier. Sneaky Gino at his finest.
Possibly but I think there were far too many stories and rumours at the time for us to have shown no interest at all IMO. Either way, doesn't matter now.
The guy is now playing for BVB, one of the biggest clubs in Europe and currently in the Champions League. Why would he come to Watford when other clubs of similar status were in for him ? It has been made clear that we were never seriously in for him, most probably because the club knew he would never come to us. If you wish to believe some rumours spread to HITC by his agent so as to boost his wage demands from BVB then thats up to you, but please stop cluttering up the forum with this nonsense.
Here we go again...I’ll say what I like, when I like, where I like. You clearly have an issue with me, so please PM me so we can discuss it. I’m finding your snidey little comments aimed at me quite tiresome. If you don’t like what I contribute, speak to me privately or hit the ignore button. I’m happy with either outcome.
