    BBC quote tonight:

    "Since returning to the top flight in 2015-16, Watford have scored seven own goals, more than any current Premier League side."

    What's with that? Very bad luck or something else?

    Own goals are never done intentionally. The slightest nick on a ball can change its direction so seeing it dip or grass cut into your own goal is totally unfortunate randomness.

    No player starts a game with the intent to score one, it happens and it’s part of the game. Also remember the BBC hate Watford so instead of praising us we get the other end of content.

    None as worse at the first own goal we ever scored in the Premier league when I think Richard Johnson somehow managed to lop the ball over Chris Day against Wimbledon as they were then.

    Probably set the tone for that season (and simply the fact Chris Day was in goal at all due to an injury for Alec)

    I remember that game. Loved the new kit and it was a great game for the neutral spectator. We deserved a point but they were lucky to get all three in part to the OG.

    I would question if there is more to the high number of own goals.
    We are playing a much higher tempo and perhaps as energy and concentration drop defenders are more rushed to close down attacks thus making last ditch touches.
    Be interesting to see at what stages of the game they have occurred

    Surely, this is just the statistics of small numbers. Somebody will have 6 and in 3 months time somebody will have 8, and so on. So what? Too many statistics in football. The way I could be wrong is if other teams all had markedly fewer og's.

    These are actually the stats for own goals in the last 4 seasons.

    Not sure they say anything really, apart from... Swansea and Hull were really "awesome"at scoring own goals, and Southampton and Liverpool really good at not scoring them.

    With 1.8 O.Gs/ season, we are not the best, but definitely not the worst.

    So I agree with posters above, the whole thing is kind of a meaningless stat.
