I know we have seen him play but just how bad does this guy have to be at training etc to it even get a look in past Holebas or even Mariappa at LB. He was cheap but what a monumental waste of money.
Maybe he's not even in training at the moment? Looks like he was in Dubai last night. From his Instagram, he seems to be on holiday quite a lot, wondering whether he even trains with us anymore at all? https://www.instagram.com/mrvn.zglr/?hl=en
As Sybil Fawlty once said to Basil, when he hired some cheap Irish builder, ‘the reason he is cheap, is he is no bloody good’. This is equally true of Zeegelar.
Zeegelaar must be laughing. He's got another 4 years to go on his contract, and the club have seemingly made him persona non grata. Dja Djedje has got another 3 years to go as well
It seems you are not clear on the concept that all transfers are profit making. These fine specimens can be loaned out for large loan fees.
Made the squad. Will we see him? I think he's been a bit unfairly maligned. He's not really had very long at all to acclimatise and his reputation, which started off quite brightly, was destroyed by that goal against someone or other last year when he got outjumped and easily overpowered. We've seen already what Gracia can do to make the most of the talents of a few defenders who are currently shining far more brightly than anybody every expected. Could he do the same with Marvellous Marv?
Trying not to get carried away, but there's a possibility that every judgment/opinion made on all the players over the past year or two in terms of their shortcomings should be reset - at least until we've had the chance to see them in Gracia's much improved team. After 24 months of Mazzarri (where nobody knew what he was on about) followed by Silva (zero individual coaching, wanted newer, better players to play how he demanded instead of teaching those he had, combined with no defensive acumen whatsoever), perhaps it's little wonder that many players have seemed hopeless?? I'll be honest and admit that I've written off Zeegelaar from making any further appearances unless another injury crisis occurs. But perhaps there's still hope? Let's not forget that our 4-1 triumph over Chelsea had Holebas as a left sided centre-half and Zeegelaar as a left wing-back. If anyone can get a tune out him, maybe it's Gracia? Should he manage to get as much fight out of him as the other 'Marvelous Marvin' (American spelling, grammar Nazis), Holebas will then have a serious contender for his yellow cards record!
Joss, you touch on a big point. All players signed by WFC will be outstanding at football. Having seen a lot of kids with decent to blinding talent try & fail to get v far towards pro football, you appreciate this.
Played for the U-23's with Britos today against Millwall as the youngsters lost again. But it's proof that Marvin is alive....
Christ, if the Udinese fans hated us before, just wait until they start conceding goals at the far post whilst dozy Marvin is daydreaming about his next trip to Dubai.
The criticism of him has been harsh I think. I like the lad. Remember his debut when he got smashed by Andy Carrol 0.3 seconds after kick off and still persevered on with a large nasal tampon shoved up each nostril. Very brave. And then there was his lone ranger mask he wore for a couple of games afterwards. Most fetching. I dimly recall his sending over a beautiful cross from over by the corner flag whilst wearing that, which led to a goal. A shame he didn't make it here it seems, but I wish him all the best.
This feels very much like how I imagined the blitz, with people making a pie out of old scraps of gristle and saving the shaved off pastry to use in something else. Waste not want not - the Pozzo model 2019
Let's stop all this now and fill our forum with outrage that he's leaving, as though he was our star player. Hopefully it will filter back to the italians and it won't feel as bad for them when we take Bitch Lasagne or whatever their best player is called.
I thought he was ok, imo it was never a straight red against Burnley but from that game our form collapsed and he fell massively out of favour even with a change of manager
Officially confirmed now. He's gone on loan to Udinese. https://www.watfordfc.com/teams/first-team/official-zeegelaar-leaves-loan
