If Pereyra does go I hope we use the money to invest in a proven striker or we will be struggling for goals
I hope he stays. But if its correct and Napoli are interested, it will be all the harder to keep him.
I don’t want to see him gone at all. I honestly think he will come into his own this season. He has the ability to unlock a stubborn defence and will be key in breaking teams down. However football is a business and the Pozzo’s will be saying to themselves a £10mil+ profit on a player is good business. Especially one so injury prone it seems. So whilst I don’t want him gone, £££ talks, so I suspected he will be back playing in the Serie A this season.
If we replace him with better then great, if not its a bad move. So as things stand, it would be a bad move.
As much money as there is in the PL, and we make more and more with each season we stay in it, we still aren’t a rich club and can’t afford to keep players at any price. I’m sure Gino would want to keep Pereyra and it won’t be lost on him that he’s one of our better players. But if the offers are around the £25m mark, that will fund 2x Richarlison’s or 2x Deloufeu’s. Now many may be of the opinion that Pereyra is better than both these on his day - I may not disagree - but the profit margins speak for themselves. I am in no way saying we should sell. But there are a few caveats where it makes business sense. Pereyra’s fitness and inconsistency will come into it too. He improved his form over the back end of last season but he still routinely comes off after 60 mins. If Gracia and Co can’t improve that, £25m+ is tempting.
Agree but if we use the £25m to buy another Gray and Okaka it will have been wasted. A Richarlison and a Deloufeu would be a good deal. The quality of the team/squad overall needs to keep improving if we are to keep up and keep our place in the prem irrespective of the indicidual sums of money we spend or receive.
These rumours keep popping up.. £17 million to Napoli isn't good business he's worth more than that to us. Would be upset to see him go.
I doubt he’ll be going anywhere if that’s what’s on offer. But sadly the fact remains that we need to sell some overseas players and we have an abundance of attacking midfielders. I have always felt that this summer, 1 or 2 players might leave that the fans would want to stay.
This and I can only guess, if he wanted to move to Italy for personal reasons, would be the drivers behind selling, if any.
Phil Spencer again... https://www.football.london/watford...ford-roberto-pereyra-torino-transfer-15003438
The rumour hasn't really gone away all summer. If we are in for Ward-Prowse, then i wonder whether it is as a replacement for Pereyra?
Tell them to jog on. He’a one of our better players. Imagine selling him and signing nobody. I would boo for 90 minutes on Saturday.
I would agree but the thought might be that Ward-Prowse can play advanced or deeper, which Pereyra can't. I really hope its not true however.
Although there is no doubting Pereyra's skill, he blow very hot and cold until the back end of the season, when the sun came out a little, we need more consistency from players at his value for it to make sense for him to be at the club, ie a fit Cleverly will give you 100% no problems, you don't get that from Bobby P! from a business point of view it makes sense to sell him for the sort of money that's been talked about.
I don't want to, but I agree with this. I have this nagging feeling he is still cautious,as well he might be,after his horrid injury. Shame but possibly the pragmatic decision.
I'd cry my eyes out if he left. But why would he want to stay on a sinking ship? He must look at the two lumps of dogshit up front and utterly despair.
