If Volkes is seen as a cheap replacement for Okaka this link is understandable. But no way is he an upgrade on either Gray or Deeney. We desperately need a proper striker unless Gracia is thinking of playing without one.
The Clarets are in Europe so, to the neutral, are currently ahead of us in the pecking order. Nonetheless, slightly dismaying to be buying their reject striker for the second season in a row.
Ings, Vokes and Sturridge to replace (the basically fit all season) Deeney, Okaka and Gray - a Physiotherapists wish list!
Worst fox in the box attempt ever.... But seriously that's a great shout. Perfect signing if we can get him and a great upgrade probably on a similar wage to Troy.
Sam Vokes was born made to wave the flag Ooh, they're red, white and blue And when the band plays "Hail to the chief" Ooh, they point the cannon at you, Lord It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no senator's son, son It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate one, no
Just on the basis of the Deeney rumours. Do think Vokes would be pretty much nailed on to join though if Troy does go.
I wouldn't bet on that, he scored the only goal for them in their Europa League qualifier vs Aberdeen a few days ago.
Most players only look half decent under certain strict tactics. Michael Keane for instance. Take Dyche away and you've got a pretty ordinary defender. Same goes for Vokes. It works because their entire game is about getting it high in the box multiple times per game raising his percentages to score. We've got Gray and Deeney and I wouldn't say we play to either of their strengths. I'm pretty lost on what tactics we're relying on this season to be honest.
Only if we were involved in a competition whereby we have to find one of the few players worse than Deeney to replace him.
