Domagoj Vida is a 29 year old centre-back who can also play left-back. A Croatian international (in the World Cup squad) currently at Besiktas who we're supposedly about to splash €4 on. http://sportwitness.co.uk/watford-ready-table-bid-e4m-sign-croatia-international/ https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/domagoj-vida/profil/spieler/46083 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domagoj_Vida A quick Google search of 'Domagoj Vida to Watford' brings up a fair few stories on Turkish sites.
Sounds like Matej Vydra. It has to be a yes from me. Back up choice to Masina? Or seen as a centre back?
...and pay him how many £100k a week ? We never had a chance of getting him to join us over a bigger club with better prospects other than offer him more than the incredibly good terms I'm sure he will be offered by others given the low fee. Sad but we were never in with a chance. In all seriousness an experienced Croatian international (58 caps over 8 years) for that price looks good business.
Evans isn't very good, especially for his likely wage demands. This guy very much seems to match our profile - 29, established international, quite a lot of Champions League experience, poor disciplinary record, bust-ups with former mangers, once got fined for drinking a can of beer on the team coach to a match.
Why would Evans join us over Leicester when Leicester would pay more, are a bigger club with a bigger stadium, and finished higher than us last season? More entitlement from our fans.
I expect the final bill will be significantly more than that, once the signing on fee and hefty wages are taken into account.
Where did I say he should join us ahead of Leicester? I just pointed out they were signing him. The problem is sometimes people sign in here in an aggressive or bad mood (not saying you are btw, just talking generally), half read something or misread it then launch an attack on them! I’m not entitled. However, as we’ve signed Chalobah, Hughes, Pereyra, hopefully Deulofeu etc, equally I don’t think it’s unreasonable if we get linked with or covet players like Jonny Evans.
£3.5m....however his agent is demanding an extra £4m for himself, as well as the likely demand of £80k+ a week. His attitude isn't exactly stellar either, considering he was club captain and involved in their little taxi ride
Did you have anything to contribute about the topic being discussed though? Or you wasted your post just having a subtle dig at me?
Would be an ideal replacement for Prodl, looks like he could carry off an alice band or preferably man bun with aplomb.
They must not be allowed to start together though, at any cost. The fashion crime created would be of such immense proportions that the Vic could undergo gravitational collapse.
I can remember seeing this guy in a game but can't remember when (guessing maybe the last Euros?). He was absolute dog*****.
No idea, it was only one game but he stood out due to his hair. Could've just been a bad day for him, I have no further knowledge of his abilities.
You’d think. But I’m not entirely sure that International Caps are quite the indication of ‘quality’ as they used to be. There are some god-awful players who have loads of caps and some great players who have few or less. On this player himself, I’m not reading an awful lot positive about him on the Internet. He fits the ‘Gino defensive purchase’ mould though. Oh how I wish we would change our strategy when buying defenders...
I don't know anything about him either, but based on mediocre reviews here and there and the price tag, together with his age (not gonna improve any at 29) it looks like he'd add nothing to improve our already mediocre cabal of defenders. Welcome to Watford Demigod Vidra!
True. But 58 caps ? I agree Gino sees the priority for ££ to spent in the middle and upfront. I guess the thinking is that you can make a good defence from decent players who are well organised, work as a unit etc and you don't need individual (expensive) brilliance. Whereas midfield and strikers depend far more on individual ability which costs ££s. Ideally you'd spend £20m on every purchase but when cash is limited it's better spent in the attacking half of the pitch. I'm not saying that's right but it may well be the way he sees things and I can understand that. However a £20m top class defender who could boss and organise our defence (like Tony Adams) would be very welcome.
