The way some Udinese fans behave you'd think the orns had descended on Udine like Vikings. Udinese did provide the core of our promotion squad, but the players sent over were surplus to requirements at Udinese and who Watford paid for after promotion anyway (>£8M if I recall), last season Watford spent £7.5M buying them Sven Kums... it does gall a bit the way this is portrayed as a one way street. Udinese are **** because Udinese are ****, not because Watford have taken all their best players or their money. I imagine we can lend them / buy some players to get back out of Serie B without affecting our side. Good move maybe for some fringe like Sinclair, Jakubiak, Amrabat, Zeegelar etc.
I think it is used, but after head-to-head points are taken into account first. GD in head-to-head games comes second, then goal difference overall. Seems a tad over-complicated to me.
“All their star players...” Do they have any? This Jankto guy is supposedly handy but which of our current midfielders is he better than? Meret? Again, supposedly rated but not high enough that they’d rather have a 39 year old journeyman than him. There squad is awful and probably the main reason that they are struggling.
I see they are playing yet another team right down the bottom today. They couldn't have asked for an easier run in. I'll laugh my cocc off if they lose again today.
Jankto, Barak, Rodrigo and Fofana, along with the 2 young keepers would almost certainly be sold, I'd wager most likely to us.
I’d say there’s more chance that they would sell them elsewhere to make money to rebuild their own squad. Our squad is overloaded with midfielders, it’s very unlikely they’d drop another 4 on us. One of the keepers maybe at a push. Lots of people claiming some of their players are good or have potential - they wouldn’t be where they are if all of them were up to that supposed level.
The team 3rd bottom have to play Napoli away though so should be ok. Udinese at home to Genoa I think.
Thank you Hornet4ever. I'm sorry I was long absent from the forum. Busy and ... too depressed by results to be willing to write about. Today Udinese-Bologna, last of a really poor season where for the first time after many years we're not sure yet of safety at last match. A win: we're safe. A draw: an unlikely combination of results with 4 teams at same points could lead to relegation (in that case results in toe-to-toe of all the 4 teams count). A loss: would be the final drop of shame on a shameful season, but we'd still be safe if Napoli beats Crotone.
Despite the circumstances Sherlock it's good to see you post again and to know you're well - footballing emotions aside. Best of luck against Bologna.
Udinese winning 1-0 at half-time and currently sit 13th in the league, 5pts. clear of Crotone (losing 0-2 to Napoli at h/t) who are in the final relegation spot.
Sherlock, a delight to hear from you again. Looking good for the Zebras as I write. Any views on how Gino will approach next season? Btw, been seeing a lot of Friuli on the Giro this weekend.
