    Nonsense!
They are eaten as a nutritious half time snack as I yet again hope against hope that the girls in the penalty prize have,at least once, seen if not kicked,a football!

Seems very unlikely to me, firstly in As which is one of the big daily sports rags they say the owner of Levante has said anybody who wants him will have to buy out his contract and that will cost 30 million. Secondly he won't be eligible for a work permit as he hasn't played for the national team.

South Americans from former Spanish colonies can get Spanish citizenship after two years residency in Spain, therefore a work permit shouldn't be necessary.

Luckily the Spanish never had Theresa May/Amber Rudd as Ministro del Interior then...

unfortunately from the time you are eligible for Spanish nationality until you actually receive it could take a very long time. Just look at Adalberto Peñaranda. I have been living in Spain for 25 years and the system is as bad as it could be, due to the government not putting any money into the system most say because all politicions are being investigated for corruption. Spanish law courts still do everything on paper as there are very few computers.

Presumably though in a corrupt system rich interests can grease the wheels and get things sorted quickly?

    a) has it taken Peñaranda a particularly long time? He's been in Spain less than three years and spent a few months in Italy, breaking up his continuous residence in Spain. Given Duxbury's comments about him definitely being here next season, I think it's safe to assume he's got his Spanish passport. Lerma has been in Spain the same amount of time but without a break in his residence.

    b) why would a citizenship application go to a court unless it had been turned down and was being appealed?

He might already have a passport for all we know, having applied ten months ago when he became eligible.

I know Spanish bureaucracy is rubbish having lived there myself (albeit not for 25 years and not for a while) but I'm confident we won't buy someone for ~£20 million and suddenly realise he can't play for us. If there's any truth in this rumour, I would expect he already has his Spanish passport.

Your other post doesn't mean anything without any context. Are those appeals? Applications from people not from Latin America? Those that couldn't financially support themselves/pass the nationality test?

fully agree with you there, it was just an example although I havent seen anything on the net saying he has Spanish nationality but as with everything in Spain money talks.

Spanish teams seldom sign British players & Spanish governments seldom sign British ministers.

    ‘Plank’ Woodgate was signed.

    ‘Plank’ May awaits the call.

Ladies & gentlemen, a little bit of political satire in the style of... Ben Elton.

    Whatever happened to him?

He married an Australian bird and went to live in Australia. But he wrote that Shakespeare thingie with David Mitchell in it. Not bad, but no Blackadder.

Perfect opportunity to post this, though.
