Looks like he's finally taken the hint:

    https://www.arsenal.com/news/merci-arsene

Arsène Wenger has issued the following statement:

“After careful consideration and following discussions with the club, I feel it is the right time for me to step down at the end of the season. I am grateful for having had the privilege to serve the club for so many memorable years. I managed the club with full commitment and integrity.
I want to thank the staff, the players, the Directors and the fans who make this club so special. I urge our fans to stand behind the team to finish on a high. To all the Arsenal lovers take care of the values of the club.

"My love and support for ever.”

    Arsene Wenger

    ------------

    Stan Kroenke:

Majority owner Stan Kroenke said: “This is one of the most difficult days we have ever had in all our years in sport. One of the main reasons we got involved with Arsenal was because of what Arsène has brought to the club on and off the pitch. His longevity and consistency over such a sustained period at the highest level of the game will never be matched.

“Arsène has unparalleled class and we will always be grateful to him. Everyone who loves Arsenal and everyone who loves football owes him a debt of gratitude. Three Premier League titles, including an entire season unbeaten, seven FA Cup triumphs and 20 successive years in the Champions League is an exceptional record. He has also transformed the identity of our club and of English football with his vision for how the game can be played.

“We have high ambitions to build on Arsène’s remarkable tenure and to honour his vision by ensuring that Arsenal competes for and wins the biggest and most important prizes in the game.

“We must now focus on making a strong finish to the season and ask our millions of fans around the world to join us in paying appropriate tribute to one of the greats of Arsenal’s history and one of the greats of the game.”

    ------------

Arsène will lead the team to the end of the season and we will make an appointment as soon as possible. The club will not be making any further comment on the selection process until an appointment is made.

What an absolutely ******* stupid decision - do you think he might be tempted to hop over the fence at 'Colney?

Three PL titles in 22 years. A very average coach all in all.

    Sign him up Gino!

Maybe not 15 years, but I'd love it if we got Wenger. He'd sort out the defence........erm......well at least he wouldn't have to move house.

Means he can now apply with "management experience" on his CV. Shrewd move.

To be fair, if my team had been beaten by this Watford team this season, I’d retire from life, not just as manager.

Enjoyed watching his Arsenal in the early days and his battles with Ferguson's Manure.

Stayed at least 5 years too long and that has damaged his legacy.

Very unlikely he would come to us, but Bertie Mee came here from Arsenal some years ago, so you never know?

Yes he was a victim of his own success. Ridiculously high expectations for a club that consistently spends less than those around them on players the Top 4 aren't interested in.

I don't normally care how other English teams do in Europe, but I hope Arsenal win the Europa League so Arsene goes out on a high. He made an enormous contribution to English football, even if he's now well past his sell-by date.

I'd be very happy with him as a Bertie Mee-type mentor at Watford if we had a young head coach who intends and is given the opportunity to stay, but obviously I wouldn't fancy Arsene as a coach of the defence

Vieira, Tuchel &, please do not adjust your tv set, Rodgers are the top 3 on Oddschecker.

Betfair offering 43-1 for Wenger to replace himself.

Pulis, Neville (older one) & Pardew are on the 200-1 step of shame.

Rodgers is a good manager though, despite what we think of him. I’d happily swallow my pride and have him back...

Neville? Typical. She wins one commonwealth games Netball tournament and suddenly she gets the Arsenal gig.

I actually think Rodgers would be a great fit for Arsenal. Not sure the Arsenal fans would agree, they want a big name manager

I agree, also haven't seen Benitez be mentioned yet, think he'd be great at Arsenal.

Ha Ha! But he could be an advisor to whoever is our manager next season, like Bertiie Mee & after him Burkinshaw were.

Henri Lansbury for a bit as well

Regardless of recent seasons, I believe history will have Wenger as important to Arsenal as GT was to us. Their fans won't see it like that right now due to perceived under performance but time will tell. Odd to think all their young fans will have known no one else...

Saw the tool on this and the best I could come up with was a variation of the "average" "Invincibles" side. I would have preferred to put Almunia in goal.
