I wasn't online earlier so not one of the 119 from "oooddersfield" but I have certainly enjoyed checking in with the match thread. Despite the general feeling on here being pessimistic the tone of thread isn't all doom and gloom like we sometimes find on our board. The tongue in cheek negativity is quite refreshing.
David Evans???? Ye Gods, IBB, I admire your chutzpah in owning up to that one, irrespective of all the caveats. I’d sooner fess up to being Ken Dodd’s dentist.
Funny you say that, Watford's certainly no great shakes, but I'd consider the north part one of the more agreeable parts (admittedly my knowledge of the town is pretty limited having never lived there and this opinion is based on the area round Cassiobury Park - maybe there are areas of north Watford as ugly as most of the southern half?). Quite looking forward to going to this one actually, I'm not expecting a great game or a win by any means, but it's a new ground to tick off, and actually a new county for away games (I've been to Leeds and Bradford once each, but not for football). And seems to be one of the nicer away trips, so I hope they stay up if what I've read is true, but hopefully without a helping hand from us!
It’s easy to think of stereotypes in terms of the larger northern towns, and certainly many had become pretty run down by the 70s, Manchester, Bradford, Leeds, Halifax among others, but most have been improved/ transformed, excepting Blackburn and a few others. Huddersfield is a smashing place with some fantastic architecture, including a wonderful railway station; there are also some great drives through the moors close by. The ground is good, too.
Here's a not very interesting fact about Huddersfield. It is home to the tallest freestanding building in the UK. The Emley Moor Tower at 330m tall.
I moved out a few years ago but funnily enough when I was growing up I always thought of cassiobury Park as quite posh and aspired to live in such a place. I still go back pretty regularly as my mum still lives there and of course the mighty horns but perhaps it’s changed in ways I haven’t realised. I was exaggerating my disdain of Watford for dubious comic effect. Anyway enjoy the game today and respect to you for making the trip to represent the Horns.
I was conflicted LB,for a little while. Then he told me how much money he would give me to bash a ball about on a rectangle and I decided to be the bigger person and accept the offer. I was feeling slightly hopeful for the last few days, however this morning that has evaporated. Safe trip to all travelling, a very worthy effort.
Huddersfield Town fans here!!! To be honest, I'm old enough to remember when Watford FC had never been above the second tier of English football, so I find it very amusing when fans of clubs like yours call us 'the' Premier Leagues tinpot club. Apart from being a pathetic jibe, it shows a complete underestimation of our club and our current team. I hope you all have the same ambivalence at 3pm today! Safe journey if you're travelling up 'tNorth.
Come on buddy boy, if you're going to go to the trouble of coming over here and creating an account to post, why not take any time at all to familiarise yourself with the tone and practices of the site, as well as any time inside your own head at all to apply your own analysis and think to yourself 'what is likely to be going on here?', and not get caught out by sarcasm and jokes that are basically the building blocks of the forum. That way you won't look overly sensitive and like it's gone over your head, and we won't have to be bombarded by people coming in thinking they're zing-ing us with mistakenly retaliatory 'jibes'.
Are any of you on the road/rail up here? If you are, can I suggest you try your esoteric cliquy banter out on our fans in the pubs and clubs around the stadium today! That would be very interesting!
The centre of any decent sized town is usually quite grim, but why do people ignore satellite villages like Sarrat, Chipperfield, Radlett Karnesis Janmaat Kabasele Cathcart Holebas Doucoure Capoue Femenia Peyeyra Deeney 2-2 Pereyra, Doucoure, Mooney x2 for them. Let's get into 'em from the start, we should be tw*tting these. Fear for our wobbly defence. Must win for Gracia. COYH. Etc.
By way of Northern Humour of course! NOT one line put downs or sarcasm! Just straight talking plain comments such as 'Don't talk *****'!
They speak as they find up there. Whereas we write ******** about tin pots, carrots, ex-girlfriends and cheese as well as insightful stuff about politics and football
Wonder how long it will take for us to make a brain dead defensive mistake? I'm going..... 27 minutes, and Janmaat
I'm afraid the only time this match is parity will be before kick off. A tough afternoon for the Hornets.
I'm doing my post match summary now, to save me the trouble later when I'm irritated about the loss: Thought we played well in spells, but never really threatened their goal. Why we don't play two up front when we've been so poor using one striker is anybody's guess. Will we ever score away again?? Hughes looked class once more, don't know why he keeps getting substituted as he appears to be over his injury now. Definitely worse when he went off. Pereyra looked good again also until he tired. As usual, weak defending has cost us. Another goal from a set piece sums us up. Getting tired of the Okaka substitution around the 65/70 min mark. I'm sure the squad will learn from this so that they can rectify it during the next easy away match, thus ensuring we don't make the same mistakes.............. **please feel free to repost this and mock me mercilessly should we somehow produce the unexpected and score/win/not lose. I'm prepared to be ridiculed for the good of the team**
This is how bad our season has become... I’m choosing to go shopping with my wife. My wife even asked me if I’m watching the football. My response, no, I would rather spend my time with you, what do you want to do? So shopping it is, followed by visiting friends and going out to dinner with another couple. Thank you Watford for ruining my season yet again. You bunch of half-hearted pathetic excuses for football players. I have no doubt I will check the score at some point after FT to see the inevitable loss, followed by the repetitive press conferences our coach and players drum up.
