Worse team in 45 years? That is stupid. Fact if matter is not all teams play champagne football. We need to beable to cope with - two weeks in row balls travell8ng 40 odd yards have not been cleared. Not good enough Positive - is that obvious to even Stevie Wonder where we need strengthening in summer. At back and upfront - do that and job done
Bad day/night was it!? If only we had the chance of European football to potentially look forward to - rather than worrying if our defence will cost us a good League position Feel for the attacking players- once again we played with a threat going forward despite Deeney hardly winning anything. Subs made no impact which was a shame - Voakes scores for example whrreas Okaka gets pulled up for a petty foul and almost sent off . Just as well there is a big gap between us and that bottom 3!
I wonder how many goals we'll end up conceding this season. So far it's 59 from 33 games. 5 more to go, so I'd say we will make it 74 by the end of the campaign. 3 at Huddersfield, 4 at Spurs, 4 at United, 2 against Newcastle and 2 against Palace.
Don't think we have given Burnley enough credit, they are 7th in the league, we outplayed them, thier goalie was man of the match, we conceded to to two set pieces, one of the goals went through the goalies legs with a mis kick, mapps won the header for their first goal against two giants and just bad luck where it fell, really cannot see how Deeney keeps his place, really don't think it was a bad performance by us, when we went one up thought we would win at least 2-0, Hughes was superb again, the boss reAlly does rate gray, it was crying out for pace against their big centre halves, how many crosses did we put in and create any danger. Thought it was a good display and good game, only thing wrong was result.
Defining image of the game. Only two of four defenders defending, Captain Cojones nowhere, Capoue nowhere, shortarses who might be found on the line nowhere.
Little credit to them imo. They were second best at football, clumsy, unattractive. They milked every knock in unsporting and uninspiring way and we should have buried them. They won because we were naive and disorganised at the back. Their footballers are second rate, yet infesting the England team. Mediocrity awaits for England if those players go to Russia and play.
Tarkowski is a class act, and impressed me with his range of passing on his England debut. Both of their keepers are very good as well. The rest arere average as you say
The only good thing about yesterday is that now hopefully the clapping in the 72nd minute will stop. He died over a year ago now, people need to move on.
Kaboul didn’t sign for us to play football. He signed for us so he could live back in London. He’s pulled the club’s pants down good and proper. Been out all season with nothing more than a stubbed big toe
I don't disagree with you Moose but they have pretty much the same team each week*,are strong, very fit and although uneasy on the eye, rarely give the ball away. Deeney rarely wins headers against commanding centre backs and yesterday he often had two to contend with. Perhaps The Sensible Greek should have given the ball more to The Mad Greek or Janmaat to start the move? We had very little success with balls into the box, partly as the delivery was often average and partly because Pope and his defence/whole team excluding Lennon and Nkoudou are eight feet tall! I actually feel worse this morning than I did post match but I am consoling myself with the fact that Hughes and RP weren't snapped in two by Burnley. Spare a thought too for two chaps I know who were there yesterday. One is in a wheelchair after suffering a stroke a few years ago and the other drives him down from Chesterfield. I think they have been to seven home matches this season and have yet to see us win. Fingers crossed for Palace!** * Yes I know they had Mee and Gudgollymissmolly missing yesterday. ** They are going to Huddersfield and have seen us win at Newcastle.
No disrespect to the great man, but I was also thinking when we would stop the clapping, it cant go on for ever.
I agree but would add they as a team are greater than the sum of their parts. Whether gaining a Europa League place will drain their resources is another matter but unlike a chap behind me,who kept saying 'they will shame England' if they qualify,I think most teams will hate playing them. This century's Crazy Gang in the style they adopt.
Been reading posts about how bad Burnley are how dire the football under Dyche is blah blah. But I disagree to a point. Burnley have one of the smallest transfer pots in the Premier League so are limited in transfer windows. So what Dyche has done is used the resources he's got, not had a big whinge about it, and been tactically astute enough to say ok so how do I get the best from my team and make sure we stay up. And a bloody good job he's done too. Whether they can survive year on year on a budget shoestring forever I doubt. It's debatable whether the boring tag he sometimes gets would be transferred if he is working for a team with flair players and a bigger budget. I'm pretty sure he would adjust and even if he don't as long as his team is winning most fans won't care too much.
We have far to many players in the squad who are now at a stage in their careers who's legs have gone and they talk a good game. When we started the season we had a much younger look. The old folk were on the bench or not even the match day squad. As the season goes on these players seem to have more and more influence over the Coach whoever it may be. Yet we see the same fall away every year. I feel a big chunk of the squad have turned into Journeyman. Playing game to game week to week for a pay day and how can we blame them? They have a life and a family to support. We can all see the players who need to be shipped on. For the last 3 season I've sat and read the posts and the same names come up all the time nothing happens and the same situation end of season slippage happens. What to do? At least 6 need to be moved on. Not going to name names here as well all know who. If it means a financial hit then so be it. But I'm sure we can save quite a bit on wages. Anyone who has had their head turned should also be sold on. We need athletes as you cannot teach that. I remember speaking to a Liverpool scout who came to view one of my kids. When talking to him afterwards he said. 'We are looking for players with an engine as we can teach the skills'. That has always stuck in my mind. Why should that be any different with older players when the legs go? Tough decisions ahead for the management team. If and I repeat if they have the cahoonas.
Doucoure was awful yesterday and seems more interested in talking about his future at the moment. On current form I would suggest a dream move is unlikely to happen
Dyche does well because he was a no-nonsense central defender. He drills his teams like this. His players have to stand in a line while players fires shots at them. If they flinch they do the routine again. Your body is a wall, so use it. The ball cannot go through you. It's simplistic, but amazingly effective. This is why Burnley are doing so well. They rarely give away a cheap goal. Look how we dominated them yesterday. We piled on the pressure but rarely looked like scoring. Had that been the other way around, with Burnley putting so much pressure on us, getting 10 corners, we'd have conceded 5. Burnley are were they are in the league, not because they have great players, but because they are a team, well organised and work extremely hard for each other in every single game. The Premier League is full of teams that are a bit chaotic. They have good players, but seem to be a bit individualistic. Very few sides play as a team. If you are really together as a side then Burnley is what you can achieve. A team reflects it's coach. Dyche is tough, and the Burnley side are as tough as they come.
Let’s see how Joka turns out if he gets to the PL. Dyche has done a heck of a job but if that football is just dreadful. I was seriously annoyed after the game yesterday but would still rather watch us than them. The worrying thing is that I think he may be the next England manager
As has been stated by many on another thread his downturn in form has coincided with his,or more likely his agent, spouting to anyone who will listen. Perhaps he will improve with better players around him but I do not think he is technically competent to play for a top 6 club. He is a great worker,a good athlete and has a big heart but 'no one is irreplaceable' as someone once said!
Flores was underrated by many on here. What he achieved initially was "amazing". The wheels did come off and things turned sour, but that side should never have really got 44 points. We overachieved in our first season, even getting to an FA Cup semi-final. Since then, we've spent more on the squad but have achieved a lot less. It's regressive season after season.
I think it’s significant that people are now turning against Dyche and his managerial ability just after we lost to his team.
If we get £80m for Richarlison and Doucoure then that would be a superb piece of business. Both players have had their heads turned and form has dropped as a result of it. They have got to the level where it's not really a problem if they go. They are no longer vital to the side IMO.
It’s pretty simple for me - at this level you are guaranteed to get punished if you don’t take your chances, and you are guaranteed to get punished if you make defensive errors. That’s exactly what happened here - we should’ve been 2-3 goals up by the time they equalised.
I don't mind it, as it seems to wake everyone up and creates a bit of atmosphere, albeit for only a minute. Yesterday was inappropriate though, just as Burnley were taking their free kick that led to their second goal. No doubt all the clapping put our players off, or the great man himself is trying to tell us something...... now's the time to stop.
Agreed. It's becoming a form of self-harm. We were raising the volume as they took a vital set piece. GT above all us liked winning football games and came across as a modest sort of person. I don't think an endless tribute is appropriate for him.
Agree Richarlison and Doucoure aren't vital to this side, we are perfectly capable of being total garbage without them
My goodness that is a striking picture. It shows clearly that far too many of the team do not have the commitment/concentration/anticipation/intelligence/fortitude to defend adequately let alone defend well. We must start buying players, especially defenders, with the right mental characteristics for life in the Premier League. I have criticised the player purchase strategy employed by Gino Pozzo over the years. To be fair to him that strategy has been adapted over time and half way through the transfer window last summer we moved to buying young creative talent in midfield such as Chalobah and Hughes to good effect. It needs to shift again - buying defenders with silky football skills may drive potential player sales profit but buying defenders with proven mental strength will improve the team.
