Maybe his new contract, which will probably see him through to the end of his career, has sucked the motivation out of him. He's certainly not the same player that won PotS back in May.
At the risk of being laughed at I would respectfully suggest you look at our defensive record over the last season and a half with both of them in the team - 29 goals conceded in 26 games. Does that not suggest that these two thrive best when played together (which they have very rarely done of late) and without either the other or Cathcart in the team, the defence suffers? You might say that the best defenders should excel whoever they're playing alongside as long as it's one of equal ability, but we're Watford and we don't attract that kind of calibre. Some CBs only do well when played alongside certain players, for whatever reason (be it personal compatibility, complementing each others' strengths, an almost telepathic understanding of each others' role and intentions) - think how good the Cathcart-Britos/Prodl partnership was for most of 2015/16 and how we have missed that solidity when they haven't played together.
Just to amend the above, those 26 matches include those where one of them was subbed/sent off or came on later in the game. To be more accurate, adding up only the goals conceded and minutes played when both of them have been on the pitch, we have conceded 26 goals in nearly 22 matches with both of them playing - not too shoddy considering how poor our defence has been on the whole for the best part of two years. Not that I'm saying that having both of them back in the team would magically shore up our defence just like that, but you never know...
Misunderstanding I think, LondonOrn. What I meant by my post was that many supporters wanted shot of Britos, and before his red against Brighton (and indeed since) he was regularly accused of being our poorest CB that always had an error in him. Our terrible defensive displays since his absence might suggest he's better than a lot of people thought? Interesting regarding them playing better together. The thing is with Silva - he likes fast players in his team where possible. Kiko will replace Janmatt as soon as he's fit, and Kabasele is our quickest (fit) CB. Therefore, it's very unlikely we'll see Prodl and Britos together under Silva due to their lack of pace, unless injuries dictate otherwise. For this reason, Kaboul will be straight back in the team, should he ever return to fitness (not holding my breath). But on current form - it won't be a bad thing seeing Prodl miss out. He just seems a shadow of the player we know he can be right now.
Or more likely would rather now be swanning about in his family's luxury kitchen business... He's certainly looked more like a luxury kitchen salesman than professional footballer when he's stepped on to the pitch of late.
I've always thought 'Prodl' sounds like a minor surgical procedure - ie, "I have to go in to hospital next week - nothing serious just a routine Prodl"
Pr*dl had a very good game. His lack of pace was not exposed when he was playing in the centre of a 3 man defence. He made one error during the second half when he sent a clearance directly to a German player, but then he made a great recovery tackle to save the situation. Otherwise, he was the one who organized the Austrian defence and he made some important blocks and clearances during the game. The Austrian manager was very pleased with Pr*dl's performance and hugged him at the end of the game. All the 'big' German stars appeared during the game. The Germans had greater possession, but the Austrians played an effective pressing game and had more shots (including those on-target). It may have been only a warm up game, but Joachim L*w did not look a happy man at the end of the game. The German team normally wins against the Austrians.
Made the squad, but where does the lederhosen and puppy loving man-bunned defender go from here? His edelweiss has been trampled. His flugelhorn has hit a bum note. His apfelstrudel has gone sour. He's 31 now. Will we see him back as a first team regular again, or is that his lot? We've already seen Gracia make significant improvements on a number of players - amazing improvements in one or two cases - could he do the same with big Seb? Couple of injuries like the last few seasons and could we see him back commanding the defence and heading everything clear that's thrown at us, like he did in his pomp?
http://sportwitness.co.uk/player-no...-career-future-consideration-things-continue/ Prodl considering future due to lack of minutes on pitch.
"There will be injury and suspension" code for "if i don't play I'll take someone out in training...mwahaha"
https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/s...-prodl-a-target-for-fenerbahce-reports-claim/ Looks like Fenerbahce want Prodl. £1.5m is being suggested as the figure and when you get an offer like that you just cannot turn it down.
Agreed if that is true he'll be gone. Bit of a shame as he was my favourite cb at one point but he just hasn't recovered from the injury (don't tell Fenerbahce)
Prodl wont be going anywhere soon. Yesterday he underwent a knee arthroscopy operation, so will be out for a while, hence the need for another CB in this window.
http://sportwitness.co.uk/player-re...cated-talks-about-possibility-of-summer-exit/ Obviously wants out. Don’t blame him, not being played and at 31 might as well go join a mid table Bundesliga club again.
Yep! I don't blame him either, he seems to be well down the pecking order these days, so thanks for the memories Sebastian and good luck finding a new club where you should get some playing time
yep best for all parties. best luck wherever he ends up though, was a key player for us our first few seasons in this league.
