And which was why I wrote “No one really expected quite what happened last night” because I assume even you did not expect us to win 4-1!
Firstly they can **** off 2nd he was running like **** and the goal keeper made a mistake, if hadn’t tackled Deulofeu he would have run out of space 3rd he had to jump to avoid the goal keeper (who I don’t think got the ball) 4th they can **** off again 5th the pundits commenting on the game had no issue with it , blamed the goal keeper 6th how can you have a serious conversation about diving when Ally hasnt been banned for it
Outside Mayfair, Wodehouse's geography is a little opaque. GFN could, though, be in Forest Green Rovers territory.
That wouldn't include someone who predicted we would be relegated after almost every match post Christmas last year would it?
For the sake of balance, an accusation of small team bias from the Chelsea forum. 'Who the f**k is this commentator on bein sport, disgusting bias towards Watford, defended the sending off, defended the penalty, keeps praising Watford despite playing against a team with 10 men.' Potently persuasive. Btw, there is a current theory that significant amounts of gold & other precious metals can be retrieved from excrement. By sifting through the CFC forum, I claim to be a pioneer in this field. Actually I opened a random page, scrolled down 3 & found this. There may be more where this comes from.
I for one am sick of all of the decisions going our way. About time the big teams got a piece of the pie
To those complaining today's press is all about Chelsea losing, rather than our performance - on Sky last night they were waxing lyrical about how good we were. Only thing that bothers me about the whole night was Deeney's celebration - what was he thinking?!
Totally agree , I think he is a quality footballer, seems like he cares about what he does and just wants the team to win. Thought he was ripping the piss out of Chelsea yesterday. If he could just get a bit of luck and score a goal a massive weight will come off his shoulders
Naughty Chelsea fans.. http://sport.bt.com/football/chelse...y-fans-guilty-of-antisemitism-S11364248793828
In light of the events of yesterday evening I wonder if some of the regular contributors to this forum have had a chance to reflect that their relentless forecasts of doom and predictions of inevitable relegation were wildly hysterical over reactions and that not only is this a very decent Watford team but that the club is run by people who, just maybe, have a better grasp of football matters than they do
We could spice things up by switching on shuffle mode. Gino i/c the 1881, Kelso takes over from Dr Emilio, Moog sporting the armband & RC unfurled across the width of the Rookery on a mahussive banner. And Troy measuring & weighing each aspect in his frequent WFC Forum postings.
I think its fair to say that getting in a coach that actually wants to be here and coach has got the teams mojo back. Even Capoue grafted last night. Nothing wrong with a bit of good old fashioned panic though. Its proof that fans care about the future of the team. No need for moral high ground though. I mean after all we beat the Champions of England!!!
Now come on.... Did you make that up then and there, or has it been hanging around in the locker just waiting for its opportunity?
Beating the Champions of England 4-1 is great, but some of you will remember when we beat the Champions of Europe 4-1!
Last night's win was fantastic, but I'd just like to err a bit of caution on here, for several reasons: 1. We could not have asked for a better time to play Chelsea. They are disjointed, lacking in belief and are no longer playing for Conte. Yes we can only beat what's infront of us, but let's not kid ourselves. We played them at the perfect time. 2. I think a large part of our success last night is due to our having a new manager, and the uplift it gives any team. I don't necessarily agree with the heaps of praise that Gracia is getting. Ultimately when any new manager comes, players always play better for a few games. Gracia may well turn out to be a good appointment, and I have a sneaking suspicion this will be the case, but let's not get ahead of ourselves eh? We've a (fairly) long road ahead of us to guarantee safety, and I hope that Dealofeu can maintain his excellent start, and Pereyra can consistently reproduce moments of magic like he did last night. Fingers crossed.
Not all were doom and gloom - example the very astute positive observations of poster #19 , although they weren't expecting a penalty which was the only way Deeney would score.
Absolutely fair point, and yes, we shouldn't get carried away. But it is interesting that in the last few days Gracia has been accused of not providing a bounce, and now there are people saying we should recognise that bounces like this are part of getting in a new coach. I just find it a little ironic. Though I would have welcomed a win, even a replay, in the cup and three points at Stoke, I have been, overall, glad we didn't do the unrepresentative bounce, which usually ends up in disappointment later on. I'd have called it a steady improvement myself, not losing my head over a fantastic (in its nature) win over the Champions, with ten men, at home. It's not a portent that we will be playing in Europe next season, and neither does it mean there won't be disappointment later. But one loss, one draw and one win caint really be described as a bounce either.
Good point but before Monday there was a genuine concern that we were on course for relegation, now having put in a performance like that I am now more confident that we will get the 3-4 more wins required for safety. I don't expect any more but if we do it will be a bonus.
I don’t know, Swansea beat us when Carvahal had just taken over, did they play better though? They had no interest in playing at all and then decided to attack us in the las 10 minutes, I wouldn’t say it was a new manager bounce just a game plan that worked against us because we were ****. They still looked very poor, I didn’t see a bounce there, just a game plan that worked. Yes it was a good time to play Chelsea, but would you say the Chelsea team we just beat are better or worse than the Huddersfield team that wiped the floor with us for their only win in something like 14 games? They are still a very very good side with very very good players, I can’t see them going on to win 1 in 14, easy to say but however bad they are at the moment we would’ve definitely still lost to them under Silva, because he would’ve made no allowances for how they would play against us and we would’ve got torn apart defensively, the difference isn’t a new manager bounce, it’s just coaching and tactics.
Imo silva was very rigid in how he wanted to play and unwilling or unable to adapt to allow for less talented players, his solution was 'well change the players then' Gracia seems to me better able to adapt to what he has and get the maximum out of it.
Bit late to the party but what a fantastic result and win. Aside from the very valuable 3 points it gives the team a massive lift just at the right time. Confidence is want we need.
A couple more things noticed about Monday's win: 1. Ndong joined in at least one of the goal celebrations. People were giving Richie and Gray credit for sprinting over to join in the pile up after Janmaat's goal, but if that's Ndong with the stand-up hair that's blond on top, then he was one of the first in there bouncing around and giving Janmaat a ruffle too. Good sign that he's that integrated so early. Perhaps he's just really, really happy to be away from the sinking Sunderland debacle and back in the big time. 2. Usually I'm the optimist and pointing out the good things after a defeat, so in this case I'm going to reverse it and point out a bad thing that perhaps went unnoticed in the victory euphoria. It concerns their goal. So with a lovely little touch, Hazard makes a bit of space on Mapps and fires his shot off from some way out. It's OK though - in the way though is big Seb Prodl. However rather than throwing his body in front of the shot and perhaps deflecting it off for a corner, he turns his back and makes himself as small as possible so that he doesn't get hit by the nasty cold wet ball. Come on Seb! Face up man!
We seem to have unearthed a real gem in the new man. Astute, adaptable, pragmatic, modest and humble and hopefully an excellent fit for the 'Pozzo model'. All good so far. So let's hope it stays that way and we have an excellent end of season, finish top half and carry that good work on into an outstanding 2018-19 under the present head coach incumbent without it all going pear-shaped again for yet another 'it's always the other guy's fault' reason.
