Just playing devils advocate here, but if we did go down, I wonder how we would cope next season? I'd expect wholesale changes again, and wonder who would come in to manage us should the worst happen? (Another Sannino type?). I would not envisage getting back up easily. Let's hope we don't have to worry about that though eh?
I think we’d have a nightmare if we went down. Be left with highly paid underperformers and good players would leave. On the plus side Gray would shoot the lights out!
It would depend on the owners and it they are committed to us long term. If they are I reckon we would be back up within a maximum of two three seasons. They can get their hands on top quality championship players for fun, we’d probably struggle in our first season down but be ready again for the second season. They might however think **** this and want to cut their losses , in which case were pretty screwed.
That’s why I think we need to keep Troy, he is what we need when we go gown down. We would then be looking at a completely new squad. None of the current ones will want to stay so the likes of Chalobah, Pereyra, Doucoure, Kiko, Kabasele, Cleverley to name a few will be out of here like a shot. I think it will take a few seasons to look at being ready to get back up.
Gossip was - the deal with player spending in the Jan. window was that it would be "reimbursed" (a figure of "around" £30M was banded about) if the team weren't relegated at the end of the season...
Funny game - Chelsea looking class in attack but Brighton should have had a pen and maybe a goal or two!
Southampton in the bottom 3?! Geez. 2 seasons ago they were top 7 regular contenders. Just shows how precarious it is for any team outside of the bottom 6.
Make no mistake we are definitely under pressure with our current form. However luckily for us there are other teams that are looking weak at this stage of the season. Huddersfield are getting beat comfortably most weeks now, Newcastle cannot score a goal, Brighton are going down hill fast, West Brom have won once in 21 games or something ridiculous and although Stoke won today they're crap at the back, possibly even worse than us which is saying something, Swansea are 9 point behind us with a game in hand which is against Liverpool.
The worry is there are no possible fixtures that I would be confident in us winning atm, including the other teams that are on a bad run. This was certainly never the case under Flores, and to a lesser extent Wally!
Next season will be quite fun if we go down I reckon. I think Hughes, Chalobah (at least until he proves he's over the injury) and Cleverley could be our midfield which would be great for the Championship. We'd probably have the same crappy full backs minus Kiko but it'd matter less. Kabasele would be the only one of the centre backs to leave by choice (Wague's loan wouldn't be extended obviously) - I'd also offer Britos a one year extension if we were a level lower. Deeney, Okaka, Richarlison, Carrillo, Doucouré, Pereyra would all go so we'd have to completely remodel the attack around Gray, a proven Championship striker. Gomes would be fine at that level and we could introduce a younger keeper away from the spotlight of the Premier League. I'm quite up for it to be honest.
Im in full agreement with you. Deeney might not go if nobody comes in for him, which if he goes the whole season without scoring from open play could be a possibility. Obviously his wages are an issue but he might fancy staying and actually scoring some goals again.
All well and good but do you think those key players will be kept fit by our club for anywhere close to 46 games?
Good point. Do you have to name a 25 man squad in the Championship?if not, we’ll sign as many players as we want.
If we stay with current manager and no signings to impact first team I genuinely can't see us winning more than 2 more games this season (and can't name those 2) and think we will finish with 34 points. I think Swansea and Huddersfield will be the other 2 to go down. It's not just the poor results run, it's the atmosphere around the club. It's clear that MS is sulking and doesn't want to be here, how the hell is he going to motivate the team? With the back 5 we had yesterday and Watson in front protecting, and then the toothless strikers and the knackered Doucoure and Richarlison I just don't see a way out of this with what we have currently.
Just 4 points from the drop zone now. Perhaps we should've gotten rid of Jake the snake Silva sooner?!
Be typical Liverpool wouldn't it to lose after beating Man City. Mind you the manager change seems to have worked at Swansea so far.
I’m going to try and put as much weight on my teeth as possible over the next few weeks and hopefully that’ll be enough.
