With the stock at our club being at its highest in recent memory, we need to show real ambition in this window. With Silva, Richarlison and Doucoure likely to move on to bigger things in the summer, we need to be spending big now if there’s talent available Discuss
Before transfers are to be considered, two things need to be ascertained: 1. When will Chalobah be back? 2. If Peñaranda gets his Spanish passport within the next few weeks, will he be ready to come here? Priority is a quality centre back.
It's incredibly simple. Gabbiadini not featuring for Southampton yet again today. Firstly, we bring this hideously ugly excellent footballer to the Vic. Then we get a couple of ace Italian defenders in I've never heard of. Then we are all going on a European tour.
Think I spotted chalobah in the tunnel before the Man U game. The good news is he didn’t have his leg brace on
Why are Silva, Richarlison and Doucoure likely to move on? Are they not under contract then? Centre backs, goalkeeper and striker need to be on the agenda
A slight limp what?! Yes he looked slightly immobile but lots of sportsmen/women affect an odd gait. Agassi walked liked John Inman didn't harm him! Good to see him recovering. I'm not certain Doucoure and Chas will leave in the summer. Why leave to sit on the bench of a top 5/6 club,I'm not sure they make the starting eleven of Spurs,Arse,Chelsea or Liverpool.
Wrong time to buy. Keep our powder dry for the summer when we know who will be our manager next season.
I agree. Not all January buys turn out to be poor value, but the summer additions tend to be more effective. What is interesting is maybe to review some of our past targets who went elsewhere, are they worth going in for again?
True, but it could turn out that we become embraced in some turmoil in the summer. Depending on the attitudes of R and D they could quite easily hand in transfer requests if we refuse them the opportunity to move on. If there’s talent available now, we should be going for it.
I’m voting this the most idiotic thread I’ve seen this season First sentence starts with idiotic spurs/Arsenal mentality. When do we ever do well spending big and showing ambition TM in Jan? I don’t want anyone in Jan unless it fits the model and adds to the team or replaces injuries Why on earth would those 3 be likely to move? We’d wait until we can get a better price. Sure spurs will offer some thing derisory but we won’t take it. Deeney might go to a desperate team like Everton however
If there is anything good we can get in January you can be sure the pozzo's will have already scouted and know who their targets are.
Slimani and/or Gabbiadini in - Deeney/Okaka Out. Decent left-footed CB in - Britos Out Another centre back in - Kaboul/Capoue Out Left back in - Holebas Out Left winger in (backup to Richarlison) - Success Out on loan Hungry young keeper in (Brazilian for Gomes to nurture?) - Karnezis as far away from our club as possible
Spend a good amount of a decent centre back and an additional striker to take over from Gray. We'll then be ready to push on for Europe and hopefully convince Richarlison and Doucoure to stay another season.
Striker and wide player will be top of the list. Suspect Slimani will be one coming in. No doubt anyone else will be someone we've never heard of and neither have any of the ITKs on twitter. These ITKs on twitter will then make out they have studied the career from Under 8s to now of our new player we have never heard of.
Tough as it's a World Cup year. Italians are fair game though. Gabbiadini. Really think he'd be the perfect fit. Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk
You really think we’ll have these three at the club next season? Doucoure maybe but be realistic. All very good saying “I don’t want anyone who doesn’t fit the model”- what does that even mean? Gray / Richarlison/ Cleverley - enlighten me of how these three fit your “model”
Keeper. Patrício, Semper or Dahlberg Defence Peres, Hinteregger, Toloi, Kenedy. Midfield Maia, Bissouma, Jesu's Forward Slimani, Ings No not all of them. Hinteregger I believe is suffering from a knock but is a quality left sided CB. Seb must know him well. Contract expires this Summer I think. Peres, we were after before Roma came calling. Out of favour at the moment. Atlantic love Toloi, so can't see this happening. Kenedy is wasted at Chelsea. Would love to see both him and Ric bombing down the left. All defensive midfielders I believe. If we lost Doucoure to injury we would be royally effed in that position. So back up is necessary. All depends on how much Gino can squeeze out of a deal for Deeney and Okaka. Could possibly see both go. That leaves us with the clown Devon Gray up top. Personally wouldn't mind seeing Ric through the middle but then it leaves us with a gapping hole on the left. So maybe Jankto from Udi. Slimani rumour just doesn't go away. Expect some golden Gino magic to get him on loan with a view to permanent. Ings is quality when fit and 10 times the player Gray could ever be. By all accounts Ings is even capable of controlling a football.
Maybe the Grosicki and Markovic rumours will start up - and others that we have been linked with or have looked at before. We have every reason to invest in the team but only if the investment is worth making
I think we could have another re-defining moment for the club over the Summer, like telling Leicester to f off with their £30m for Deeney a few years back. Silva, Richarlison and Doucoure will only go if they don't want to be here, not because Gino has carefully calclulated the maximum money we'll get for a player (Deeney would have gone three or four times in the last six years if that was the case). I don't think he intends to sell any player unless they've either outlived their usefulness, they really don't want to stay, or some club makes a massively ridiculous offer that will facilitate a signing of equal quality coming in. We are not a selling club any more than any of the top four (even if we don't have their spending power or competitive attraction). I believe this Summer will be the time to show that.
Nice thought but I believe all 3 will want to move on if top 6 team comes knocking. We can't be seen to be blocking that as it destroys the "come to Watford, you will get first team experience quickly and move on to a bigger club" attraction for the likes of Richie. They key is to make good money on the transfers and have the replacements lined up.
Raphinha from Vitoria would be a good buy. Scores goals and currently plays in a counter attacking team.
There is a lot in what you are saying, and you may have it spot on. But I fancy we may see Gino's mettle in the Summer, and if we do, it would be a big indicator the the club has moved on to yet another level. I'm not being sentimental; if they go they go, i just fancy that Gino is, yet again, seeing things in a way most of us would find unimaginable at the moment. We shall see. But I feel sure it is coming be it this Summer or the next.
How about Theo Walcott hasn't started for Arsenal this season in the league although I guess wages could be a problem!
