Upton Park, isn't it? When they were building their new main stand back in the early noughties? Yet to meet a West Ham fan who is pleased about their current stadium!
No.. It's the Boleyn Ground I actually feel sorry for some of the old time West Ham following. I know of a couple who have stopped going to home games all together. It's been a shambles of a move and just goes to show that these things need to be handled carefully.
Here's another from me. Again the ground, year and also the opposition please. This picture is a recent one from the internet rather than from my camera; those houses weren't there when we were I believe but that terrace most definitely was. .
Somewhere is Holland. We havent played there much over the years so i'd go Aug 2000 vs Top Oss. Their ground is the Heesen Yachts Stadion but looks very different to the photo. Was it that stadium prior to redevelopment? or the game was possibly played elsewhere?
You are absolutely right Stevo; it was that game vs. Top Oss. For some reason the game was played in a village called Groesbeek not far from Nijmegen near the German border and that's the ground and indeed the terrace we stood on. At the time I worked for a large multinational with an in-sourced travel dept whom I used a lot for my flight bookings etc. I was walking down what goes for the main street in the village to be met walking the other way by a guy called Richard, the travel dept manager. Couldn't believe it. We'd worked together for 3 years but never known each other was a Watford fan. And we met here of all places.
PS - only the top half of the picture displayed on my laptop initially and I thought - not sure the surrounds are right but I wonder if that's Rotherham. Then the cable car came into view and suggested not. Wrong country for sure.
Played there 1990's.. i think only the far side stand would have been in place then. Overseas.. not Rotherham
Yes indeed. Watched a few games from part way up that hill when i lived in Bergen for a while back in the 90's. Here's the view looking back up the other way.. https://krogsveen.no/var/krogsveen/storage/images/itmobjects/1327629066/pict/1325483242_lightbox.jpg
To save us from any more puns, I'll take a wild guess that everyone is sure it is Home Park, Plymouth!
Bumping this thread for the first time in a while............. These will probably be easy for you smart people! 1: 2: 3: (dead easy this one, but it's a great pic showing the old and the new) The next three I've had saved for ages and I genuinely can't remember where they are! So if you know, well done to you! 4: 5: 6:
Pretty sure 5 and 6 are Ayresome Park and Roker Park so I wonder if 4 could be St James’s Park? 1 no idea but let’s guess Barnsley. All the clues in 2 point to Molineux but it doesn’t quite feel right, and 3 is Huddersfield but I didn’t know the two grounds were that close together.
1. County Ground, Northampton 2. Molineux, Wolverhampton 3. Leeds Road, Huddersfield 4. Meadow Lane, Notts County 5. Ayresome Park, Boro 6. Roker Park, Sunderland
Stevo is correct with the first three, but like I said, I cannot remember the last three! Ayresome park and Roker Park make sense being red, so it's a fair shout that he's probably right about no. 4 being Meadow Lane. Well done, Stevo. It appears it's not just the grass that you're an expert in?!
My obsession with football grounds was how i ended up becoming a groundsman I was actually a little stumped on the Meadow Lane pic.. but that somewhat unique scoreboard was the giveaway. I always double check my answers btw.. wouldnt want to be seen getting anything wrong So here was the confirmation.. https://twitter.com/MotherSoccerNL/status/898531462164697088
