    The Guest.

Mr HH and I were looking for a film to watch on Sky and came across this. Gave it a go as it was in the "Thriller" section, which we both like, and got a 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes and 4/5 from Empire. All I can say is, I don't really understand how - although Dan Stevens looks much fitter than he was in Downton Abbey (sorry, wrong audience for that comment).

    Not recommended.

I just watched Room and I agree with the comments earlier in the thread. Brilliant film, and I'm not one to cry at films but had me on the brink a few times. Brie Larson and the young boy were excellent in it.

I also watched Jungle book the other day at the IMAX and I thought it was really good. Couldn't remember the storyline, which made it better.

I did a heavily Pinter inspired piece of nonsense for my alevel theatre studies entitled the guest.

Surprised they made it into a film and I've not seen a penny

Saw Civil War over the weekend.

Thought it was a thoroughly entertaining film. Spider-Man and Black Panther completely stole the movie in my opinion, especially Spider-Man in the airport scene (which is probably the single most entertaining scene in any superhero film to date). Black Panther's physical movements were simply perfect; the fluidity and grace was pure big cat. I was highly impressed with his introduction to the MCU.

Very much looking forward to next year's Spider-Man film!

Watched it yesterday, agreed on all points, i'd add Ant Man into the mix for stealing the show a bit as well. I recently blasted through an old cartoon series of Black Panther in anticipation for Civil War/his upcoming movie and think his solo movie will be very good indeed.

Last weekend I finally watched "Once upon a time in America", at 3 hours 50mins I had to watch it in 2 installments but a very good watch and strangely for its epic length it didn't feel as if it was too long.

To be honest, I found it predictable and tedious...I think they've over-mined it....effectively it's good mutants vs bad mutants over who will rule the feeble humans.

    The good mutants triumph etc...

This is for you, then, 'Jugs, as well as for those with kids.

Goosebumps - a good yarn that kept all of us, adults and kids, entertained. Word of warning though - although it's a PG I would say it's at the "upper end" of the age range in terms of scariness. My two (aged 12 and 9) don't scare that easily but found some of the "monsters" (eg the zombies) alarming enough that I had to have a "sleepover" with the 9 year old after she'd watched it. So I would say recommended but not for very young kids.

    21 Jump Street

I lived through the original tv series of 21 Jump Street. I loved it. I loved it with a passion. I wanted to be Johnny Depp. It was one of my favourite TV series at the time and still holds a place in my great childhood nostalgia memories heart along with such TV action classics as Miami Vice, C.H.I.P.S, The A Team and, for some unknown reason, Crazy Like A Fox?!

Now, to the 21 JS film. I've put off watching it. I've actively switched off or left the room if it was on. I didn't want to ruin my childhood memories and the thought of someone butchering the whole idea and characters of that was too much for me to bare.

Until a couple of days ago. I succumbed. My gf has been on at me to watch it so we could watch 22 JS together. And with the impending 23JS/MIB crossover, I thought it was time to tackle this one head on.

I am indifferent. I didn’t hate it. I didn’t love it. To call it 21 Jump Street maybe pushing it a little far if it was intended to be a remake/based on the original series concept. I think, had they called this film by any other name it would have been fine. To label it 21 Jump Street was probably further than they should have gone.

If they think that the premise of 2 policemen going into a school undercover twinned with a generic black police chief screaming in every one of his scenes is enough to call it by the same name then that’s up to them I guess. Personally I felt the link between the 2 was more than a little tenuous. It was too teen cheesy and lacked so much of the OS grit and character depth. Ok, how much can you get away in 2 hours rather than a whole series, but I felt it could have been a little darker in parts.

What really pissed me off was…

The allowance of Johnny Depp’s and Peter Deluise’s characters demise. Don’t get me wrong, I squealed with glee when they appeared. “They were the original series guys” I screamed to my gf who wondered what the frick was going on. “they were the original guys from the original series” I yelled again. Then, they both got shot and died almost immediately.

WTF. I mean, WTAF? This isn’t right. This shouldn’t have happened, and I feel it was a kick in the teeth to all watches of the original series. To kill off our… our hero’s. It’s like someone killing off superman in the remake. It just shouldn’t have happened. I gather Johnny Depp asked for this to happen, for it to come full circle, for the new guys to take the reigns. But why couldn’t this have been managed Starsky and Hutch style where they just handed over the car in some symbolic gesture (I hope that films old enough now for that not to be a spoiler?!!).

Anyway, that was my main beef with it other than the fact that it steered too far away from the original gritty concept too far to be a show by the same name.

I found it entertaining as a standalone film. I will watch 22 JS and the impending crossover with MIB.

Just seen the trailer for Independence Day 2, loved the first one as a kid! Trailer looked a little too CGI for my liking, the magic of the first one was that it almost looked real to an extent, sad that Will Smith didn't take up the option to be in it again.

    Meh! Pre-Dictator

Only just got round to watching this at the weekend. Was fun, but wasn't overly excited by it. Maybe it's because I'm not familiar with the comic book version, maybe it's been overhyped too much and I expected more.

As a film it was ok. I won't be going to the cinema to watch the sequel as will wait for it to come out later.

A Bronx Tale - Good performances from De Niro and the kid from The Sopranos who got killed by Tony's crew for trying to kill Christopher. Pretty good story and I enjoyed it.

Watched The Conjuring 2 (based on the Enfield poltegeist). Whilst I enjoyed the first one, I thought they went way too Hollywood on this one. Last year there was a 3 or 4 part TV adaptation starring Timothy Spall which I thought was better.

It's widely believed to be a fake...like the Amityville Horror

Independence Day: Resurgence....aaaarrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh what a load of jingoistic, melodramatic, cheesy, schmaltzy cringeworthy, skin crawling crap.

Stupid plot, horrible script and vomit inducing acting.

Congratulations Roland Emmerich, you have joined Uwe Boll and Eli Roth as sh!tty directors.

Finally got to see Breaking The Bank after waiting two years for it to come out.

Mildly funny in places - stars Kelsey Grammer and Tamsin Greig

Most people rating it 6/10 but I give 7/10.

6/10 is probably about right but the extra point is for our house being used as the location in one of the scenes.
