Allardyce has announced his first England squad. Wilshire dumped. Walcott recalled. Rooney still there.

Only real shift from the norm is a call up for Michail Antonio. I actually think that's a good call. I like him as a player and think he can be quite exciting.

Can't believe he didn't pick Deeney. Maybe he didn't like the rivalry!! :]]

Same old ****. Shoehorning in Antonio doesn't change that. Still picking players hardly involved for their clubs. Still the same old losers.

    Same old.

Who else should he have picked? You look at the Premier league and I think there was something like 72 players who are qualified to play for England involved in match day squads, a fair few would be keepers so perhaps 65 players, and then we have the big name international retirements like John Terry and James Milner (haha). Bar some Burnley and Bournmouth reserves, there is only dregs about.

We are so desperate for players, we tried to get Steven Nzonzi to play!

Bit harsh, he'd be class alongside Dier in holding midfield. Better than Henderson or any other option we have.

Picking Antonio is scraping the barrel. Aside from Tottenham and Southampton very few clubs can lay claim to having developed or brought in English players on a regular basis in recent seasons.

Most coached by Pochettino! Something like 10 of last 18 debutantes.

I'd love to know the reasons for including Jordon Henderson aside from the fact he is always picked. He was awful last season, was terrible at the Euro's and has started this season in equally as poor form.

Same old dross will give the same outcome. A shame, as it was a chance to really re-invent the squad and shake it up, an opportunity I thought Allardyce would take.

Without one or two genuine world-class players we ain't gonna get much better whoever he picks. I don't think we've had one since Gazza.

Alex McCarthy called up to replace Forster.

McCarthy last played a game 179 days ago.

Largely the same players in a similar formation so no surprise it is the usual uninspiring stuff.

Great victory, a vindication of the open attacking football big Sam has be known for all these years.

Their keeper was down for at least 2 minutes as the 4 were added on.

I am mystified after several years how Walcott is still in the Premier League. He is a Championship level player who lacks the intelligence to be a consistent threat at a higher level. Pace only gets you so far. It's like waiting for water in the Atacama for his so called promise to emerge. He isn't the only example. There are several players who are stealing a living in the Premier League riding on past estimations of promise.

While the talent cupboard in England is fairly bare Germany, Argentina, Spain are still churning out young players with regularity. The performance of Spain against Belgium was a masterclass with a revamped team. Italy are showing signs of a resurgence. Berardi upfront, Donnarumma in goal given a debut aged 17 against France and high hopes in central defence with Romagnoli and Rugani. And Brazil too have a handful of skilled youngsters coming through now though nothing like those in the seventies and eighties. They still are finding a skilled midfield general a real issue.

Low expectations so I am pleased with the win. Seems like Sam set us up to get a draw though which was disappointing, strange interview afterwards where Sam more or less said Wayne can play where he likes, weird.

I suspect he (and the FA) want Rooney in the squad but have idea how to play him.
